Plagiarism: A Little Pricktease

Well presonally I don't consider my writing porn- it is not sleazy stuff meant to be hidden under the bed. It has a plot and interesting characters. I believe for the most part that my stories are very entertaining as well as arousing. And very original. Except perhaps the first one.

In order to make erotica more than boring and same old hat- you have to think out of the box. While I may not have a degree in English, that's not to say I won't some day. I haven't decided yet how I will finish my degree. Probably not english but I will take some more creative writing classes. You might be surprised at the backgrounds of a lot of the people that read and write erotica.

And someday I hope to be published in an anthology. I will be submitting a couple of stories this year. So who knows?

I tried to write a romance novel- it took too long.

I do enjoy reading them quite a bit though.

I love the stuff Dara Joy writes. Her stories are always different.

oh no porn/erotic debate again

Seems we do that thing around here every once in a while. I haven't written any hardcore in the last five years. Even the soft core ie 'Wagon' (Plug) was written for another reason.

When I did write it, I wrote pure porn. I expect it is hard to get the puter under the bed. I do hope those pieces are still in hiding.

I wish you luck in getting published. I truly do. It seems to be a common thread here. It also a worthy goal. It is rather strange how these threads wander about. This started out as a angry condemnation of theft, now has drifted to what we write. What next? an honest, "Why we write."

Let me go first then. "My name is MysteryWriter and I write Mystery, Action, and a little Porn."

"Hello MysteryWriter."

"I have to admit. I write to get laid."

"Gasp from the audiance."

"And it aint worked yet."

Romantica

There's a new expression that's been coined which I rather like: "romantica." Which is erotic romance. It's a ton of fun to write, because instead of just writing the usual endless humping, you're trying to build a romantic relationship.

With sex, I agree that you must use a lot of creativity to avoid just-get-on-and-screwism, which can get rather boring after awhile.

With romantica, it's the personalities that make the work interesting. How do these two particular characters butt heads in and out of the bedroom?

A good conflict is the key, I think.

I think I'll continue this in another thread, in case anybody else would like to join.

Plagerism...

I can feel your anger, Juliekitty. I also had a jerk steal a story I had wrote and posted it on ASSSTR, {Alt. Sex Story Site Text Repository}. That is why I searched out the net to find a site such as Literotica where my story would be copywrited. Sadly I found out that a story sumitted on a message board site is not necessarily copywrited. I'm not a professional writer but the pain and outrage are geniune!

rogtom, if you submitted your story within the last few years, then you are covered under the new copyright law. So, submission on a newsgroup would be equivalent to copyright.

It is a good idea to place a (c) and the date on your story so there can be no question or excuse from the thief.

Thanks for the advice Couture:

I will remember to do that in future story postings. Much appreciated. I've got to see my lawyer now; perhaps a copywrite infringement lawsuit would discourage this jerk from pulling this on someone else.

Copyright infringement

What makes this difficult is that even though the work is copyrighted the moment you write it, if you post it for free somewhere-- like this -- you will have a devil of a time proving damages.

Particularly if the thief is not posting it for sale. I think if he tries to sell your work, you can nail his ass.

Otherwise, regretably, I have found that the only thing you can do is get it taken down and tell everyone -- LOUDLY -- what he has done. Getting thieves bounced is about the most you can accomplish in this kind of case, I'm afraid.

But it takes such a SHIT to do this kind of thing...

I mean, I suppose the reason thieves do this -- steal work and post them under their own names for free -- is because they want the praise of having others admire "their" work. If instead they get nuked and heaped with humiliation, that might deter them from doing it again.

The only way sites like this can exist is if listowners and members make it clear, as has been done here, that plagiarism will not be tolerated.
