the Starbucks I usually frequent on weekends is near law, nursing, engineering, State, and 2 Catholic colleges. It's also near a mall, and the best place to be meeting locals.

Why do the Guidelines inaccurately set forth that they were "created to conform to United States law"?

I'm not Laurel but I think you'll find the answers in 18 USC 2257.

Yes, legally you can host sexually explicit videos/photos of over-18s BUT there are onerous record-keeping requirements attached (basically, owners have to keep tabs on all performers featured documenting that they are over 18 etc etc and have to make this info available on request). If you check a US-based porn site you will generally see a link to a "2257 compliance statement" or some such, which gives info about how to obtain those performer records from the site.

It's obviously not practical to keep those records in a case where users are uploading stuff from their own porn collection. So, yeah, in effect Lit does have to (make some effort to) remove explicit photo/video material. If you check the main page of Lit you'll see this 2257 exemption statement which boils down to "we don't publish explicit photos/videos so we don't need to keep those records".
