"Mercy"
~~~~~~
Well I have lived ten years plus ten
And ten and ten again
I have seen too much to pretend
And then you wanted to come in
I have survived all of the lies
They made me wise
The locks and walls and the peace it buys
Still when I look into your eyes
It's a surprise when you say
It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be okay
Just hold on tight
let it all go away
What do you want from me
Mercy, mercy baby
What do you want from me
well I plead Mercy, mercy baby
I do not know what this all means
It's been awhile
Since I've been stylin' in
Just my jacket and my jeans
It hurts to walk
It hurts to talk
It hurts to think about it
Shout about it
Could I be sure without a doubt
That you could never live without
It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be okay
Just hold on tight
let it all go away
Mercy baby
What do you want from me
Mercy, mercy, mercy baby
What do you want from me
It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be okay
Just hold on tight
let it all go away
I want to fall in you
Crawl in you
Surrender
All in you now
Could I be sure in you
Pure in you
Finding the cure in you
Now I plead
Have mercy on me
Now I am kneeling at the altar
In the temple of your eyes
And I am asking for a miracle
I have been too long paralyzed when you say
Get up
Stand up
Climb the rope of hope
and open up again
All the peace you say is promised me
seems too much to comprehend
It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be okay
Just hold on tight
let it all go away
Mercy baby
What do you want from me
Mercy, mercy baby
what Can this girl believe
It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be okay
Honey just hold on tight
And I'll make it all go away
Hold on
It's gonna be alright
Mercy darling
Mercy
Let it all go away
:kiss:
Possession
by Sarah McLachlan
Listen as the wind blows from across the great divide
voices trapped in yearning, memories trapped in time
the night is my companion, and solitude my guide
would I spend forever here and not be satisfied?
and I would be the one
to hold you down
kiss you so hard
I'll take your breath away
and after, I'd wipe away the tears
just close your eyes dear
Through this world I've stumbled
so many times betrayed
trying to find an honest word to find
the truth enslaved
oh you speak to me in riddles
and you speak to me in rhymes
my body aches to breathe your breath
your words keep me alive
And I would be the one
to hold you down
kiss you so hard
I'll take your breath away
and after, I'd wipe away the tears
just close your eyes dear
Into this night I wander
it's morning that I dread
another day of knowing of
the path I fear to tread
oh into the sea of waking dreams
I follow without pride
nothing stands between us here
and I won't be denied
and I would be the one
to hold you down
kiss you so hard
I'll take your breath away
and after, I'd wipe away the tears
just close your eyes...
Oliver's Army
by Elvis Costello
Don't start that talking
I could talk all night
My mind is sleepwalking
While I'm putting the world to right
Call careers information
Have you got yourself an occupation?
Oliver's army is here to stay
Oliver's army are on their way
And I would rather be anywhere else
But here today
There was a checkpoint Charlie
He didn't crack a smile
But it's no laughing party
When you've been on the murder mile
Only takes one itchy trigger
One more widow, one less white nigger
(Chorus)
Hong Kong is up for grabs
London is full of Arabs
We could be in Palestine
Overrun by a Chinese line
With the boys from the Mersey and the Thames and the Tyne
But there's no danger
It's a professional career
Though it could be arranged
With just a word in Mr. Churchill's ear
If you're out of luck or out of work
We could send you to Johannesburg
Oliver's army is here to stay,
Oliver's army are on their way,
And I would rather be anywhere else
But here today,
And I would rather be anywhere else
But here today,
And I would rather be anywhere else
But here today,
oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh ......
Manhattan Avenue
Nellie Mckay Lyrics
Send a breeze
A pitbull's yelp
A tender squeeze
A cry for help
Make it now
And make it fast
Such memories
Can never last
I long for the days
Music and mayhem
Mama's a smilin' friend
In the scuzzy hue of the sunlight
Manhattan avenue
Lionel please
Watch o'er our door
The children tease
I beg for more
Chipping paint
The ceiling's spent
Aw ain't it great
Can't make the rent
I long for the days
Kittens are meowling
Junkies are prowling
Deep in the jazzy hue of the streetlight
Manhattan avenue
[instrumental break]
How wild it is
What strange a vice
That a mugger and a child should share the same paradise
Oh but dreams come true on
Manhattan avenue
White Flag
I know you think that I shouldn't still love you or tell you that.
But if I didn't say it well I'd still have felt it,
where's the sense in that
I promise I'm not trying to make your life harder
Or return to where we were but
I will go down with this ship and I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door,
I'm in love and always will be
I know I left too much mess and destruction to come back again
And I caused but nothing but trouble,
I understand if you can't talk to me again
And if you live by the rules of "it's over" then I'm sure that that makes sense but
I will go down with this ship and I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door,
I'm in love and always will be
And when we meet, which I'm sure we will
All that was there, will be there still
I'll let it pass, and hold my tongue
And you will think, that I've moved on....
I will go down with this ship and I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door,
I'm in love and always will be
I will go down with this ship and I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door,
I'm in love and always will be
I will go down with this ship and I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door,
I'm in love and always will be
Motherland
Where in the hell can you go
Far from the things that you know
Far from the sprawl of concrete that keeps crawling its way
About 1,000 miles a day
Take one last look behind
Commit this to memory and mind
Don't miss this wasteland, this terrible place
When you leave
Keep your heart off your sleeve.
Motherland cradle me
Close my eyes, lullaby me to sleep
Keep me safe, lie with me
Stay beside me don't go
Don't you go
Oh, my five & dime queen
Tell me what have you seen
The lust and the avarice
The bottomless, cavernous greed
Is that what you see?
Oh Motherland cradle me
Close my eyes, lullaby me to sleep
Keep me safe, lie with me, stay beside me don't go.
It's your happiness
I want most of all
And for that I'd do anything at all
Oh mercy me!
If you want the best of it
Or the most of all
If there's anything I can do at all.
Now come on shot gun bride
What makes me envy your life?
Faceless, nameless, innocent, blameless and free
What's that like to be?
Oh Motherland
Cradle me
Close my eyes, lullaby me to sleep
Keep me safe, lie with me
Stay beside me don't go
Don't go, don't go
Motherland
Cradle me
Close my eyes, lullaby me to sleep
Keep me safe, lie with me
Stay beside me don't go
Don't go, don't go
Honey you are a rock,
Upon which I stand,
And I came here to talk,
I hope you understand,
The green eyes, yeah the spotlight, shines upon you
And how could, anybody, deny you,
I came here with a load,
And it feels so much lighter now I met you,
And honey you should know,
That I could never go on without you,
Green eyes
Honey you are the sea,
Upon which I float,
And I came here to talk,
I think you should know
The green eyes, you're the one that I wanted to find,
And anyone who tried to deny you, must be out of their mind,
Because I came here with a load,
And it feels so much lighter since I met you,
Honey you should know,
That I could never go on without you,
Green eyes, green eyes
Oh oh oh oh (x4)
Honey you are a rock
Upon which I stand
Bridge Over troubled Water
Simon and Garfunkel
When you're weary, feeling small,
When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all;
I'm on your side. When times get rough
And friends just can't be found,
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
When you're down and out,
When you're on the street,
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you.
I'll take your part.
When darkness comes
And pains is all around,
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Sail on silver girl,
Sail on by.
Your time has come to shine.
All your dreams are on their way.
See how they shine.
If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.
On the other hand......
I Am A Rock
Simon and Garfunkel
A winter's day
In a deep and dark December
I am alone
Gazing from my window
To the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow
I am a rock
I am an island
I've built walls
A fortress deep and mighty
That none may penetrate
I have no need for friendship
Friendship causes pain
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain.
I am a rock
I am an island
Don't talk of love
Well, I've heard the word before
It's sleeping in my memory
I won't disturb the slumber
Of feelings that have died
If I'd never loved,
I never would have cried
I am a rock
I am an island
I have my books
And my poetry to protect me
I am shielded in my armor
Hiding in my room
Safe within my womb
I touch no-one and no-one touches me
I am a rock
I am an island
And a rock feels no pain
And an island never cries
i love this song!
you have good taste in music tt..vast array..but good yummy stuff!:kiss:
...and now for something completely different. A couple selections from a band that's hard to listen to on LSD. Creepy, disconnected, and screaming until you think the guy's gonna pop a vocal chord right out onto the microphone, Acid Bath, if you've never heard them (and enjoy... ah.. "Metal") I recommend them. Their singer, while also able to scream his face off, is actually a fairly decent singer, to boot. And I think any heavy band who can write constantly about butterflies and whores is worth at least one listen. >=]
Acid Bath, "Scream of the Butterfly"
a creature made of sunshine
her eyes were like the sky
rabbit howls like something old as we twitch to her lullaby
the scalpel shines in god's sunshine
street lights whisper pain
down here near the poison stream our god has gone insane
she smiles like a child with flowers in her hair
with blood on her hands into the sun she stares
she feels it die, I heard her cry
she smiles like a child with flowers in her hair
with blood on her hands into the sun she stares
she feels it die, I heard her cry
like the scream of the butterfly
sunshine a house in flames
she likes it where she gets it but it's never felt the same
surgery in the house of dissection
when your candle burns out I will resurrect you
she runs through fields of daisies
yeah it's just a shame that they eat their own babies
who cares cause the air is free
when you get there will you kiss the dead for me?
there's blood on the moon
and the summer is cold
there's love in the room
but baby that's gettin' old
there's blood on my face
sittin' on a dead shore
a highway of emptiness and I'm gettin' bored
there's blood on the moon
as we plan our escape
the goddess in bloom handcuffed and raped
there's blood in the bathtub, baby
murder the king
there's blood on the moon
there's blood on just about everything
sunshine a house in flames
she likes it where she gets it but it's never felt the same
surgery in the house of dissection
when your candle burns out I will resurrect you
she runs through fields of daisies
yeah it's just a shame that they eat their own babies
who cares cause the air is free
when you get there will you kiss the dead for me?
something cold is forced inside her
a tear spills down her cheek
stillborn songs of a dead dreamer,
hymns of the needle freak
with sunlight in her hair she smiles like she don't care
her dreams are liquid blue
I cut myself again and again to remind myself of you
she smiles like a child with flowers in her hair
with blood on her hands into the sun she stares
she feels it die,
I heard her cry
she smiles like a child with flowers in her hair
with blood on her hands into the sun she stares
she feels it die,
I heard her cry
like the scream of the butterfly
like the scream of the butterfly
I met an angel with a sawed-off shotgun
wanted by the FBI
we dropped some acid, killed our parents
then we hit the road
like the scream of the butterfly
like the scream of the butterfly
like the scream of the butterfly
like the scream of the butterfly
You know " Scream of the butterfly" is a line from
" When The Music's Over" By The Doors right??
Did not know, but it sorta makes sense.
Brain Damage
Pink Floyd
The lunatic is on the grass
The lunatic is on the grass
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs
Got to keep the loonies on the path
The lunatic is in the hall
The lunatics are in my hall
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forbodings too
I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon
The lunatic is in my head
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me ’till I’m sane
You lock the door
And throw away the key
There’s someone in my head but it’s not me.
And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear
And if the band you’re in starts playing different tunes
I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon
THE DAY I TRIED TO LIVE
Soundgarden
Lyrics: Chris Cornell
I woke the same as any other day
except a voice was in my head
it said seize the day, pull the trigger
drop the blade, and watch the rolling heads
the day I tried to live
I stole a thousand beggar's change
and gave it to the rich
the day I tried to win
I dangled from the power lines
and let the martyrs stretch
singing one more time around might do it
one more time around might make it
one more time around might do it
one more time around
the day I tried to live
words you say never seem
to live up to the ones inside your head
the lives we make never seem
to ever get us anywhere but dead
the day I tried to live
I wallowed in the blood and mud with
all the other pigs
I woke the same as any other day you know
I should have stayed in bed
the day I tried to win
I wallowed in the blood and mud with
all the other pigs
and I learned that I was a liar
just like you
Dylan and not Dylan
Gotta Serve Somebody is an amazing and uplifting collection of Dylan's "born again" songs covered by some of the best names in gospel music. Bob himself only actually sings on one song ("Gonna Change My Way of Thinkin," with Mavis Staples, who rocks it so good. :) ).
If you haven't listened to it, check out the site--you can sample the songs there. This one is my favorite (and most of the cd is wonderful)--it's just one of the best lyrics I've ever hear and the singer--Helen Baylor--gives it all the power it deserves. You so do not have to be traditionally religious (or even see the songs as religious at all) to appreciate the talent.
I Believe in You
Boy Dylan
They ask me how I feel
And if my love is real
And how I know I'll make it through.
They look at me and frown,
and like to drive me from this town,
They don't want me around
'Cause I believe in you.
They show me to the door,
They say "don't come back no more"
'Cause I don't be like they'd like me to,
And I, I walk out on my own
A thousand miles from home
But I don't feel alone
'Cause I believe in you.
I believe in you even through the tears and the laughter,
I believe in you even though we be apart.
I believe in you even on the morning after.
Oh, when the dawn is nearing
Oh, when the night is disappearing
Oh, this feeling is still here in my heart.
Don't let me drift too far,
Keep me where you are
Where I will always be renewed.
And that which you've given me today
Is worth more than I could pay
And no matter what they say
I believe in you.
I believe in you when winter turn to the summer,
I believe in you when white turns to black,
I believe in you even though I be outnumbered.
Oh, though the earth may shake me
Oh, though my friends forsake me
Oh, even that couldn't make me go back.
Don't let me change my heart,
Keep me set apart
From all the plans they do pursue.
And I, I don't mind the pain
Don't mind the driving rain
I know I will sustain
'Cause I believe in you.
I was watching the Roy Orbison: Black and White concert again.....and had to post something of his. I had a houseguest and she asked to see the concert, really :D
In Dreams
by Roy Orbison
A candy-colored clown they call the sandman
Tiptoes to my room every night
Just to sprinkle stardust and to whisper:
"Go to sleep, everything is alright"
I close my eyes
Then I drift away
Into the magic night
I softly sway
Oh smile and pray
Like dreamers do
Then I fall asleep
To dream my dreams of you
In dreams...I walk with you
In dreams...I talk to you
In dreams...Your mine
All of the time
We're together
In dreams...In dreams
But just before the dawn
I awake and find you gone
I can't help it...I can't help it
If I cry
I remember
That you said goodbye
To end all these things
And I'll be happy in my dreams
Only in dreams
In beautiful dreams
She's A Mystery To Me
Roy Orbison
Darkness falls and she will take me by the hand
take me to some twilight land
where all but love is grey
where I can't find my way without her as my guide.
Night falls
I'm cast beneath her spell
daylight comes
our heaven turns to hell
am I left to burn and burn eternally ? - She's a mystery to me.
She's a mystery girl
she's a mystery girl.
In the night of love words tangled in her hair
words soon to
disappear.
A love so sharp it cuts like a switchblade to my heart
words tearing me apart.
She tears again my bleeding heart
I wanna run
she's pulling me apart
fallen angel cries and I just melt away.-She's a mystery to me.
She's a mystery girl
she's a mystery girl
she's a mystery girl
she's a mystery girl.
Haunted by her side
it's the darkness in her eyes
that so enslaves me.
But if my love is blind then I don't want to see
she's a mystery to me.
Night falls
I'm cast beneath her spell
daylight comes
our heaven turns to hell
am I left to burn and burn eternally. - She's a mystery to me.
She's a mystery girl
she's a mystery girl
...
(last one lol)
I had to include this one, because it always makes me smile...how often do you get to say ooby dooby? :cool:
Ooby Dooby
Roy Orbison
Hey baby, jump over here
When you do the ooby-dooby I just gotta be near
Ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby
Ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, dooby-do-wah-do-wah-do-wah
Well you wiggle to the left, you wiggle to the right
You do the ooby-dooby with all of your might
Ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby
Ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, dooby-do-wah-do-wah-do-wah
Well you wiggle and you shake like a big rattlesnake
You do the ooby-dooby 'till you think you have a break
Oobu-dooby, ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby
Ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, dooby-do-wah-do-wah-do-wah
Well you've been struttin' 'cause now you know
Let's do the ooby-dooby, baby let's go!
Ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby
Ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, ooby-dooby, dooby-do-wah-do-wah-do-wah
- Counting Crows
Blue morning, blue morning
Wrapped in strands of fist and bone
Curiosity, Kitten,
Doesn't have to mean you're on your own
You can look outside your window
He doesn't have to know
We can talk awhile, baby
We can take it nice and slow
All your life is such a shame, shame, shame
All your love is just a dream, dream, dream
Are you happy when you're sleeping?
Does he keep you safe and warm?
Does he tell you when you're sorry?
Does he tell you when you're wrong?
I've been watching you for hours
It's been years since we were born
We were perfect when we started
I've been wondering where we've gone
All your life is such a shame, shame, shame
All your love is just a dream, dream, dream
I dreamt I saw you walking up a hillside in the snow
Casting shadows on the winter sky
as you stood there counting crows
One for sorrow two for joy
Three for girls and four for boys
Five for silver six for gold and
Seven for a secret never to be told
There's a bird that nests inside you
Sleeping underneath your skin
When you open up your wings to speak
I wish you'd let me in
All your life is such a shame, shame, shame
All your love is just a dream, dream, dream
Open up your eyes
You can see the flames
of your wasted life
You should be ashamed
You don't want to waste your life
I walk along these hillsides
In the summer 'neath the sunshine
I am feathered by the moonlight
falling down on me
Change, change, change[/color]
