The Pretenders

FOREVER YOUNG

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU ALWAYS
MAY YOUR WISHES ALL COME TRUE
MAY YOU ALWAYS DO FOR OTHERS
AND LET OTHERS DO FOR YOU
MAY YOU BUILD A LADDER
TO THE STARS
AND CLIMB ON EVERY RUNG
AND MAY YOU STAY
FOREVER YOUNG

FOREVER YOUNG
FOREVER YOUNG
MAY YOU STAY
FOREVER YOUNG

MAY YOU GROW UP
TO BE RIGHTEOUS
MAY YOU GROW UP TO BE TRUE
MAY YOU ALWAYS KNOW THE TRUTH
AND SEE THE LIGHTS SURROUNDING YOU
MAY YOU ALWAYS BE COURAGEOUS
STAND UP RIGHT AND BE STRONG
AND MAY YOU STAY
FOREVER YOUNG

FOREVER YOUNG
FOREVER YOUNG
MAY YOU STAY
FOREVER YOUNG

MAY YOUR HANDS ALWAYS BE BUSY
MAY YOUR FEET ALWAYS BE SWIFT
MAY YOU HAVE A STRONG FOUNDATION
WHEN THE WINDS OF CHANGES SHIFT
MAY YOUR HEART ALWAYS BE JOYFUL
MAY YOUR SONG ALWAYS BE SUNG
MAY YOU STAY
FOREVER YOUNG

FOREVER YOUNG
FOREVER YOUNG
MAY YOU STAY
FOREVER YOUNG

Perfect Sense - Pink Floyd

Can't you see
It all makes perfect sense
Expressed in dollars and cents
Pounds shillings and pence

Can't you see
It all makes perfect sense

Little black soul departs in perfect focus
Prime time fodder for the News at Nine
Darling is the child warm in the bed tonight
Hi everybody I'm Marv Albert
And welcome to our telecast
Coming to you live from Memorial Stadium
It's a beautiful day
And today we expect a sensational matchup
But first our global anthem

Can't you see
It all makes perfect sense
Expressed in dollars and cents
Pounds shillings and pence

Can't you see
It all makes perfect sense

And here come the players
As I speak to you now the captain
Has his cross hairs zeroed in on the oil rig
It looks to me like he's going to attack
By the way did you know that a submarine
Captain earns 200,000 dollars a year
Oh that's less tax Marv yeah less tax
Uh thank you Emery you're welcome
Now back to the game he fires one yes
There goes two both fish are running
The rig is going into a prevent defense
Will they make it I don't think so

Can't you see
It all makes perfect sense
Expressed in dollars and cents
Pounds shillings and pence

Can't you see
It all makes perfect sense

This is one of my favorite songs ever......but with Rod Stewart singing it. :rose:

You have to hear Jesse Colin Young do it...or Ian and Sylvia. :)

(I'm listening to a great graham parsons tribute album now. you?)

PS--and you have to give Dylan credit for Forever Young--though I think Chrissy Hynde is way cool. Think she's related to Lauren?

:D

Mother Of pearl - Roxy Music

Turn the lights down
Way down low
Turn up the music
Hi as fi can go
All the gang´s here
Everyone you know
It´s a crazy scene
Hey there just look over your shoulder
Get the picture?
No no no no .......(yes)

Walk a tightrope
Your life-sign-line
Such a bright hope
Right place, right time
What´s your number?
Never you mind
Take a powder
But hang on a minute what´s coming round the corner?
Have you a future?
No no no no .......(yes)

Well I´ve been up all night again
Party-time wasting is too much fun
Then I step back thinking
Of life´s inner meaning
And my latest fling
It´s the same old story
All love and glory
It´s a pantomime
If you’re looking for love
In a looking glass world
It’s pretty hard to find

Oh mother of pearl
I wouldn’t trade you
For another girl

Divine intervention
Always my intention
So I take my time
I´ve been looking for something
I’ve always wanted
But was never mine
But now I’ve seen that something
Just out of reach - glowing -
Very holy grail

Oh mother of pearl
Lustrous lady
Of a sacred world

Thus: even zarathustra
Another-time-loser
Could believe in you

With every goddess a let down
Every idol a bring down
It gets you down
But the search for perfection
Your own predilection
Goes on and on and on and on
Canadian club love
A place in the country
Everyone’s ideal
But you are my favorita
And a place in your heart dear
Makes me feel more real

Oh mother of pearl
I wouldn’t change you
For the whole world

You’re highbrow, holy
With lots of soul
Melancholy shimmering
Serpentine sleekness
Was always my weakness
Like a simple tune
But no dilettante
Filigree fancy
Beats the plastic you
Career girl cover
Exposed and another
Slips right into-view

Oh looking for love
In a looking glass world
Is pretty hard for you

Few throwaway kisses
The boomerang misses
Spin round and round
Fall on featherbed quilted
Faced with silk
Softly stuffed eider down
Take refuge in pleasure
Just give me your future
We’ll forget your past

Oh mother of pearl
Submarine lover
In a shrinking world

Oh lonely dreamer
Your choker provokes
A picture cameo

Oh mother of pearl
So so semi-precious
In your detached world
Oh mother of pearl
I wouldn´t trade you
For another girl

CROSBY, STILLS & NASH - "Guinnevere"

(David Crosby)

Guinnevere had green eyes
Like yours, mi'lady, like yours
When she'd walk down through the garden
In the morning after it rained

Peacocks wandered aimlessly
Underneath an orange tree
Why can't she see me?

Guinnevere drew pentagrams
Like yours, mi'lady, like yours
Late at night when she thought
That no one was watching at all
On the wall

Do, do, do ...
She shall be free

As she turns her gaze
Down the slope to the harbor where I lay
Anchored for a day

Guinnevere had golden hair
Like yours, mi'lady, like yours
Streaming out when we'd ride
Through the warm wind down by the bay
Yesterday

Seagulls circle endlessly
I sing in silent harmony
We shall be free

Wake Up Older
by Julie Roberts

Slept in my makeup
Didn't get my teeth brushed
I crashed on the couch
And now my mouth tastes like yesterday's news

Well hello Jim Beam
Oh the places you've seen
If only you could talk
You'd tell me why he walked out on me and you

Oh the things lovers do when it's over
Oh the things lovers do when it's done
Find a cool bottle or a warm shoulder
Wake up older
And try to move on

I drove around last night
Thinkin' 'bout our last fight
I cruised by your house
And all the lights were out and you were gone
So I found me a stranger
With his comforting danger
But I thought about you
The whole time we were gettin' it on

Oh the things lovers do when it's over
Oh the things lovers do when it's done
Find a cool bottle or a warm shoulder
Wake up older
And try to move on
Find a cool bottle or a warm shoulder
Wake up older
Wake up older

Slept in my makeup
Didn't get my teeth brushed
I crashed on the couch and now my mouth tastes like
Yesterday's news

Laid
by Matt Nathanson

This bed is on fire with passion and love
The neighbors complain about the noises above
But she only comes when she's on top

My therapist said not to see you no more
She said you're like a disease without any cure
She said I'm so obsessed that I'll become a bore, oh no

Ah you think you're so pretty (eeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeee)

Caught your hand inside the till
Slammed your fingers in the door

Bought the kitchen knives and skewers
Dressed me up in women's clothes
Messed around with gender roles
Dye my eyes and call me pretty

Moved out of the house so you moved next door
I locked you out you cut a hole in the wall
I found you sleeping next to me I thought I was alone
You're driving me crazy when are you coming home

Desperadoes Under The Eaves - Waren Zevon

I was sitting in the Hollywood Hawaiian Hotel
I was staring in my empty coffee cup
I was thinking that the gypsy wasn't lyin'
All the salty margaritas in Los Angeles
I'm gonna drink 'em up

And if California slides into the ocean
Like the mystics and statistics say it will
I predict this motel will be standing until I pay my bill

Don't the sun look angry through the trees
Don't the trees look like crucified thieves
Don't you feel like Desperadoes under the eaves
Heaven help the one who leaves

Still waking up in the mornings with shaking hands
And I'm trying to find a girl who understands me
But except in dreams you're never really free
Don't the sun look angry at me

I was sitting in the Hollywood Hawaiian Hotel
I was listening to the air conditioner hum
It went mmmmmm..

Anybody know

The Haynes Boys?

My sweety has one of their cds, and I'm in love with this song. It's folky-countrywith a beautiful lyric, an acoustic guitar that slides a little and the sweetest mandolin. :)
***********************************

Bitters Past
The Haynes Boys

I remember too many drinkin songs,
when I broke the bottle the drink was all gone.
It’s a curse or worse--the wine-stained letters
at the bottom of your purse that say

I miss hangin with you,
and I miss layin with you.
I don’t want to grow old drinkin,
but I want to grow old drinkin with you.

I know too many drinkin songs,
when I broke the bottle the songs were all gone.
I’m up a hill until I cracked my skull on the wagon wheel

but still I miss drivin to you,
and I miss ridin with you.
I don’t want to grow old drinkin,
but I want to grow old drinkin with you.

You bring the bottle
and I’ll bring the glass.
We’ll scrape the bottom
and swallow the bitters past.

I don’t wanna grow old just drinkin,
but I could grow old drinkin with you.

I remember too many drinkin songs.
When I broke the bottle, drink songs--they’ve both gone.
It’s a curse or worse the wine-stained letters
at the bottom of your purse that say

I miss hangin with you,
and I miss layin with you.
I don’t want to grow old drinkin,
but I want to grow old drinkin with you.

You bring the bottle
and I’ll bring the glass.
We’ll scrape the bottom
and swallow the bitters past.

I don’t wanna grow old just drinkin,
but I could grow old drinkin with you.
Said I don’t wanna grow old always drinkin,
but I could grow old drinkin with you.

Drinkin with you
Drinkin with you
Drinkin with you

Smooth - Santana

Man it’s a hot one
Like seven inches from the midday sun
I hear you whisper and the words melt everyone
But you stay so cool

My mu equita my spanish harlem mona lisa
Your my reason for reason
The step in my groove

And if you say this life ain’t good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change my life to better suit your mood
Cause you’re so smooth

And just like the ocean under the moon
Well that’s the same emotion that I get from you
You got the kind of lovin that can be so smooth
Gimme your heart make it real
Or else forget about it

I’ll tell you one thing
If you would leave it would be a crying shame
In every breath and every word I hear your name calling me out
Out from the barrio you hear my rhythm from your radio
You feel the turning of the world so soft and slow
Turning you round and round

Bruce Cockburn - The Trouble With Normal

Strikes across the frontier and strikes for higher wage
Planet lurches to the right as ideologies engage
Suddenly it's repression, moratorium on rights
What did they think the politics of panic would invite?
Person in the street shrugs -- "Security comes first"

But the trouble with normal is it always gets worse

Callous men in business costume speak computerese
Play pinball with the Third World trying to keep it on its knees
Their single crop starvation plans put sugar in your tea
And the local Third World's kept on reservations you don't see
"It'll all go back to normal if we put our nation first"

But the trouble with normal is it always gets worse

Fashionable fascism dominates the scene
When ends don't meet it's easier to justify the means
Tenants get the dregs and landlords get the cream
As the grinding devolution of the democratic dream
Brings us men in gas masks dancing while the shells burst

The trouble with normal is it always gets worse

I really want to hate this band. They're a local band gone famous, here in Omaha (it's the new Seattle, don't you know.) and they have a rabid coke-fiend fashionista fanbase that sneers down its narrow nose at you if you're not 'in.'

However. I found something in this song that I liked, somewhere between the rhythm and the sentiment.

Bright Eyes

"Take It Easy (Love Nothing)"

First with your hands and then with your mouth
A downpour of sweat, damp cotton clouds
was a fool, you were my friend
We made it happen
You took off your clothes, left on the light
You stood there so brave
You used to be shy
Each feature improved, each movement refined and eyes like a showroom
Now they are spreading out the blankets on the beach
That weatherman is a liar
He said it would be raining but it is clear and blue as far as I can see

Left by the lamp, right next to the bed,
on a cartoon cat pad you scratched with a pen,
"Everything is as it has always been.
This never happened.
Don't take it so bad it is nothing you did.
It's just once something dies you can't make it live.
You are a beautiful boy.
You're a sweet little kid but I am a woman."
So I laid back down and wrapped myself up in the sheet
And I must have looked like a ghost because something frightened me
and since then I've been so good at vanishing

Now I do as I please and lie through my teeth
Someone might get hurt, but it won't be me
I should probably feel cheap but I just feel free...
and a little bit empty
No, it isn't so hard to get close to me
There will be no arguments
We will always agree
And I will try and be kind when I ask you to leave
We will both take it easy
But if you stay too long inside my memory,
I will trap you in a song tied to a melody
and I will keep you there so you can't bother me

My apologies if this has been posted before. The late Elliott Smith:

"Needle in the Hay"

Your hand on his arm
Haystack charm around your neck
Strung out again
Callin' some friend tryin' to cash some check
He's acting dumb
That's what you've come to expect

Needle in the hay ...

He's wearing your clothes
Head down to toes a reaction to you
You know what he did
But you idiot kid you don't have a clue
Sometimes they just
Get caught in the eye you're pulling them through

Needle in the hay ...

Now on the bus
Nearly touching this dirty retreat
Falling out
Sixth and Powell, a dead sweat in my teeth
Gonna walk walk walk
Four more blocks, plus the one in my brain
Down down stairs
To the man who's gonna make it all OK
I can't beat myself
I can't beat myself and I don't wanna talk
I'm taking the cure
So I can be quiet whenever I want
Leave me alone
You oughta be proud that I'm getting good marks

Needle in the hay ...

"She Is a Holy Grail" by Superdrag

Sweet darjeeling dream
Of sugarcubes and cream
In a bridal gown
Inhaling nicotine

Doesn't everybody know
She's quite the little queen
Everywhere I seem to go
I find the masses trampling a dream

When my fever broke
Vapor trails and smoke
In a bridal veil
She is a holy grail

Doesn't everybody know
She's quite the little queen
Everywhere I seem to go
I find the masses trampling a dream

"Thirteen" by Big Star

Won't you let me walk you home from school
Won't you let me meet you at the pool
Maybe Friday I can get tickets for the dance
And I'll take you

Won't you tell your dad to get off my back
Tell him what we said about "Paint It Black"
Rock and roll is here to stay
Come inside if it's okay
And I'll shake you

Won't you tell me what you're thinking of
Would you be an outlaw for my love
If it's over let me know
If it's "No" then I can go
I won't make you

I love this one because it seems so evocative of time and place (though I may admittedly be reading too much into it), and it conveys the hormonal confusion of adolescence very well to my memory. The awkwardness of not really knowing what sex is or what it means (on an emotional rather than biological level) Again, might be reading too much into it. But, there it is.

I'm enjoying this more than I can say. Makes me want to sing out loud, but this will have to do.

"If You Have to Ask" by Mark Eitzel

There's no way in - the street is all blocked up
Police lights spin: Sirens and certain pain
So we drive around - don't worry, I'm not lost
The cab driver frowns

If you have to ask, then you'll never know

Later that night, all your black winter clothes
The wind cuts right through you like you weren't there at all
You froze on the street, you froze to the glass
You think I don't love you

If you have to ask, then you'll never know

My voice gonna seep like smoke through a crack in your window pane
Gonna curl up your stair, and light a fire in your brain

The music flows and echoes from the club on the empty street
As you walk away from me, footsteps, the useless beat
I watch your shadow, headlights and brick walls
You think I won't follow

If you have to ask, then you'll never know

Love's Recovery
Indigo Girls

During the time of which I speak
It was hard to turn the other cheek
To the blows of insecurity
Feeding the cancer of my intellect
The blood of love soon neglected
Lay dying in the strength of it’s impurity
Meanwhile our friends we thought were so together
They’ve all gone and left each other
In search of fairer weather
And we sit here in our storm and drink a toast
To the slim chance of love’s recovery

There I am in younger days, star gazing
Painting picture perfect maps
Of how my life and love would be
Not counting the unmarked paths of misdirection
My compass, faith in love’s perfection
I missed ten million miles of road I should have seen
Meanwhile our friends we thought were so together
Left each other one by one on the road to fairer weather
And we sit here in our storm and drink a toast
To the slim chance of love’s recovery

Rain soaked and voice choked
Like silent screaming in a dream
I search for our absolute distinction
Not content to bow and bend
To the whims of culture that swoop like vultures
Eating us away, eating us away
Eating us away to our extinction

Oh how I wish I were a trinity
So if I lost a part of me
I’d still have two of the same to live
But nobody gets a lifetime rehearsal
As specks of dust we’re universal
To let this love survive
Would be the greatest gift that we could give
Tell all the friends who think they’re so together
That these are ghosts and mirages
All these thoughts of fairer weather
Though it’s storming out I feel safe within the arms
Of love’s discovery

Anything But Mine
by Kenny Chesney

Walking along beneath the lights
of that miracle mile
Me and Mary making our way into the night
You can hear the cries from the carnival rides
The pin-ball bells and the ski-ball slides
Watching the summer sun fall out of sight
There's a warm wind coming in
from off of the ocean
Making its way past the hotel walls
to fill the street
Mary is holding both of her shoes in her hand
Said she likes to feel
the sand beneath her feet

And in the morning I'm leaving,
making my way back to Cleveland
So tonight I hope that I will do just fine
And I don't see
how you could ever be anything but mine

There's a local band playing
at the seaside pavilion
And I got just enough cash to get us in
And as we're dancin Mary's wrapping her arms around me
And I can feel the sting of summer on my skin
In the midst of the music I tell her I love her
We both laugh cause we know it isn't true
Ah but Mary
there's a summer drawing to an end tonight
And there's so much that I long to do to you

But in the morning I'm leaving,
making my way back to Cleveland
So tonight I hope that I will do just fine
And I don't see
how you could ever be anything but mine

And in the morning I'm leaving,
making my way back to Cleveland
So tonight I hope that I will do just fine
And I don't see
how you could ever be anything but mine

Mary I don't see
how you could ever be anything but mine

My Only Love Roxy Music

Merry's song reminded me of this...I've probably posted it before.

My Only Love - Roxy Music
(Ferry)

Do I ever wonder?
More than words can say
Heaven knows it's hard enough to pray
Let me tell you something
There's a change in me
Even now you're gone you'll always be
My only love

Does it seem so funny
For a fool to cry?
Do you know the meaning of goodbye?
There's a river flowing
By a willow tree
When you need to know remember me
My only love

Let me tell you something
More than words can say
But they're all I have, no other way
There's a river flowing
By a willow tree
When you find you're there remember me
My only love

"Designs on You" by Old 97s

Standing on the corner of 6th and how to forget
Trying to right by you all night, Annette
You can go ahead and get married
And this will be our secret thing
I won't tell a soul except the people in the nightclub where I sing
I don't mean to get you all worked up
Except secretly I do
I'd be lying if I said I didn't have designs on you
I'd be lying if I said I didn't have designs on you

Standing on the corner of 6th and where do I go
The parade's shut down and now the rain is running the show
Where did all these people come from
And how soon will they leave?
Normally I'd be in to it but I need to get some sleep
Though I do wish you'd come over
But I'm warning you if you do
I'd be lying if I said I didn't have designs on you
I'd be lying if I said I didn't have designs on you

Standing on the corner of 6th and where do I get
Trying to do right by you all night, Annette
This will only be an experiment
In things that could have been
You can go ahead and get married and this'll prob'ly never happen again
I don't mean to get you excited
Except secretly I do
I'd be lying if I said I didn't have designs on you
I'd be lying if I said I didn't have designs on you

Things Have Changed - Bob Dylan

I was never a huge Dylan fan...but the lovely and talented Ms Blackwood turned me onto this song and it's become one of my favorites.
Thanks Tara

Bob Dylan - Things Have Changed

A worried man with a worried mind
No one in front of me and nothing behind
There's a woman on my lap and she's drinking champagne
Got white skin, got assassin's eyes
I'm looking up into the sapphire tempered skies
I'm well dressed, waiting on the last train

Standin' on the gallows with my head in the noose
Any minute now I'm expectin' all hell to break loose

People are crazy and times are strange
I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range
I used to care but - things have changed.

This place ain't doin' me any good
I'm in the wrong town, I should've been in Hollywood
Just for a second there I thought I saw something move
Gonna take dancin' lessons, do the jitterbug rag
Ain't no shortcuts, gonna dress in drag
Only a fool in here would think he got anythin' to prove

Lotta water under the bridge, lotta other stuff too
Don't get up gentlemen, I'm only passing through

People are crazy and times are strange
I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range
I used to care but - things have changed.

I've been walkin' forty miles of bad road
If the Bible is right the world will explode
I'm tryin' to get as far away from myself as I can
Some things are too hot to touch
The human mind can only stand so much
You can't win with a losing hand

Feel like falling in love with the first woman I meet
Puttin' her in a wheelbarrow and wheelin' her down the street

People are crazy and times are strange
I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range
I used to care but - things have changed.

I hurt easy, I just don't show it
You can hurt someone and not even know it
The next sixty seconds could be like an eternity
Gonna get lowdown, gonna fly high
All the truth in the world adds up to one big lie
I'm in love with a woman that don't even appeal to me

Mr. Jinx and miss Lucy they jumped in a lake
I'm not that eager to make a mistake

People are crazy and times are strange
I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range
I used to care but - things have changed.

I've always found the lyrics of a certain Maynard James Keenan (from TOOL) to be rather good. He has some pretty dark, complex lyrics, that I feel could pass as poetry by themselves. One of my favourites has always been 'FortySix & 2'.....

My shadow's
Shedding skin and
I've been picking
Scabs again.
I'm down
Digging through
My old muscles
Looking for a clue.

I've been crawling on my belly
Clearing out what could've been.
I've been wallowing in my own confused
And insecure delusions
For a piece to cross me over
Or a word to guide me in.
I wanna feel the changes coming down.
I wanna know what I've been hiding in

My shadow.
Change is coming through my shadow.
My shadow's shedding skin
I've been picking
My scabs again.

I've been crawling on my belly
Clearing out what could've been.
I've been wallowing in my own chaotic
And insecure delusions.

I wanna feel the change consume me,
Feel the outside turning in.
I wanna feel the metamorphosis and
Cleansing I've endured within

My shadow
Change is coming.
Now is my time.
Listen to my muscle memory.
Contemplate what I've been clinging to.
Forty-six and two ahead of me.

I choose to live and to
Grow, take and give and to
Move, learn and love and to
Cry, kill and die and to
Be paranoid and to
Lie, hate and fear and to
Do what it takes to move through.

I choose to live and to
Lie, kill and give and to
Die, learn and love and to
Do what it takes to step through.

See my shadow changing,
Stretching up and over me.
Soften this old armor.
Hoping I can clear the way
By stepping through my shadow,
Coming out the other side.
Step into the shadow.
Forty six and two are just ahead of me.

If You Really Want To Be My Friend - Rolling Stones

Mick Taylors guitar solo and the " Motown" backing vocals
along with some great lyrics ...a forgotten classic

IF YOU REALLY WANT TO BE MY FRIEND Lyrics

(M. Jagger/K. Richards)

If you really want to be my friend
Let me live it up like I used to do
If you really want to understand me
There's some giving up we got to do

I know ev'rybody wants to be your man
I don't want to tie you up, go ahead, you're free
And I never want to scar you with my brand
We could live it up, just a you and me

If you really want to understand a man
Let him off the lead sometimes, set him free
If you really, really want to be my friend
Give me the look of love, not jealousy

I know you think that life is a thriller
You play the vamp, I play the killer
Now baby, what's the use of fighting?
By the last reel we'll be cryin' cryin', cryin

If you really want to be my man
Get your nails out of my back
Stop using me

You know I really, really want to be your friend
But just a little faith is all we need
I don't want no dog eat dog world for you and me
Get your nails out, stop bleeding me

You know, people tell me you are a vulture
Say you're a sore in a cancer culture
Ay, but you got a little charm around you
I'll be there when they finally hound you
Hound you, hound you

If you really want to be my friend
And I really want to understand you baby
If you really want to be my friend
If you really want to understand me
I really want to be your man
I want to try to give you a helping hand

I really want to be your friend
I want to push you when you're up
And pull you when you're down
If you really want you to understand me
I'll tell you something, that love can't thrive on jealousy

I really want to understand you
I really want to be your man
'Cause understanding is something ev'rybody needs
I really want to be your friend
And I love you, love you, yes, I do

Swordfishtrombones - Tom Waits

Some great writing here.

Swordfishtrombones

Well he came home from the war with a party in his head
And modified Brougham DeVille
And a pair of legs that opened up like butterfly wings
And a mad dog that wouldn't sit still
He went and took up with a Salvation Army Band girl
Who played dirty water on a swordfishtrombone
He went to sleep at the bottom of Tenkiller lake
and he said "gee, but it's great to be home."

Well he came home from the war with a party in his head
And an idea for a fireworks display
He knew that he'd be ready with a stainless steel machete
And a half a pint of Ballentine's each day
And he holed up in room above a hardware store
Cryin' nothing there but Hollywood tears
And he put a spell on some poor little Crutchfield girl
And stayed like that for 27 years

He packed up all his expectations he lit out for California
With a flyswatter banjo on his knee
With a lucky tiger in his angel hair and benzedrine for getting there
They found him in a eucalyptus tree
Lieutenant got him a canary bird and skanked her head with every word
And Chesterfielded moonbeams in a song
And he got 20 years for lovin' her from some Oklahoma governor
said everything this Doughboy does is wrong

Now some say he's doing the obituary mambo
Now some say that he's hanging on the wall
Perhaps this yarn's the only thing that holds this man together
Some say he was never here at all

Some say they saw him down in Birmingham
Sleeping in a boxcar going by
And if you think that you can tell a bigger tale
I swear to God you'd have to tell a lie

This looked like an excellent place to ask my question. I have a song that I wrote and would like to post with the audio. I can't sing, but recorded it anyway so readers/ listeners could get the idea of the rhythm. There is no music with it, just me howling, lol. Is it possible to post it or would that be against the rules? I don't want to waste anyone's time by submitting something I can't post. Thanks for the help y'all!
