Princess' house of Smexynesd

A lot of people are advertised as loving WoW. I would too. If it had graphics and sound that matched (if not exceeded) the trailer, like MOST games, had PLOT, and had gameplay that wasn't "click on your opponent to hit him and pray you don't get SQUASHED LIKE A BUG AT LEVEL 90 by a monster that's level 10"

I think you are a bit misinformed on the gameplay of wow razor....but nevermind that...this will turn into a discussion that will get heated and there is no reason for that here.

notice he doesn't deny that there's no plot and the graphics and audio are lame << >>

Anyways, you can play WoW if you want. I'll stick to playing PSO online and all other games I have offline.

wowwiki.com will have your 450 pages of gameplay storyline and plot within the game....enjoy catching up.

yeah, I've read them. Notice that plot actually within the game is minimal, and that the game has a huge backstory.

except that the teaser trailer for the game predates it by half a year at least.

The trailer is pre-rendered of course it is better than the graphics and audio for the actual game. They rendered the cinematic on a high end machine, but not everyone has high end machines, and it has only been the last 5 years that everyone has been getting ridiculously high end machines for playing games. I can watch DVD quality video on my laptop, but if I were playing a game with DVD quality video and audio it would lag like a son of a bitch and as a result would not be fun at all.

like MOST games, had PLOT

So what you are saying is that you hate MMOs. MMO's don't have huge plots and back stories, because they are massively multiplayer. Consider the RPGs that you play where you run around as the hero of the universe and save everyone and are a general badass. Now consider for a moment how ridiculous a story would have to be for everyone to be running around being the true savior of the planet. Every MMO is the story of third rebel pilot from the left on the attack on the death star, because a story that has a million Luke Skywalkers or Han Solos would be stupid.

try playing PSO. it's an entirely different class of online game, to the point where it has earned the title Multiplayer Online Adventure. Deep, involved plot, highly detailed enemies, even more detailed environments, and combat that puts WoW out to pasture.

I'm not even trying to defend WoW specifically. The problems you are raging so enthusiastically about are problems with most MMOs. Personally I have a million and one little problems with WoW:

  • the characters aren't customizable enough (this is only a problem because I started on CoH which has a million and one little sliders and different stuff)
  • a lot of the quests lack key direction unless you have an app like quest helper
  • there is no warning when I'm wandering into a place filled with death and suffering for someone in my level range
  • I need to learn how to wear plate.

You'll notice that I didn't mention plot or graphics because those are problems with most popular MMORPGs, at least the ones that are played on PC instead of consoles.

The Graphics problem is simple. An MMO is best when it is flooded with lots and lots of people, but if it takes a super high end god machine to play the game then a casual gamer such as myself isn't able to join in on the fun. The real goal of an MMO from a graphics point of view is to have reasonable graphics that won't crash a computer that was bought for someone as a christmas present two years ago. The more people you can get involved the more money you are getting from your subscription fees, and the more people are part of the community to help on those stupid quests that are impossible to do without 5 other people.

The Plot point I've already explained. Everyone is the main character in their own story, but you can't have people beating down the legions of the underworld who have been freed by a one in a million chance every 10 minutes, because that doesn't make sense. At the same time you can't have your hero go on a quest to kill the evil lord of shadows only to have him be resurrected again 20 seconds after his death because someone else needs him to be there for the quest...unless you have a set up like Diablo II on battlenet where if you missed out on killing the evil lord of evil you could just jump out and join another room so you could get that done. The point that I'm trying to make is that a plot for a single player game doesn't work for the plot of a game where millions of people are playing.

yes, it's me. What's up guys? Sorry I have been gone for so very long. Been busy and took a break from Lit. Also just moved across the country.

With dragon around and anyone mentioning WoW it starts a debate... just a little forewarning for ya!

On another note: I have three posts to make woo!

girl.. it sucked. I had my son and three cats in my car. One cat wouldn't shut up the entire time he was in the car.

I think I have two threads that are waiting for me but they have been for about a month, so I'm not going to bother with them.

what can I say. After playing just the Demo, I was disgusted at Blizzard.

what are you loking for on that one?

Looking for really anything. I mean it has endless possibilities. My character is a slave obviously.. and from there whoever plays the other role can be for all I care, another slaver, a merchant, prince or king of whatever nation.

No, I'm basing the lack of plot on watching other people play the game. Unlike PSO which has quests in both the Hunter's Guild and the Principal's office, both of which enhance the story, Warcraft's quests are pretty much just ways to get better weaponry and equipment. Consider the following idea which would add plot to Warcraft. Massive battlegrounds in which alliance and horde fight each other. Is it present in Warcraft? well, there are massive amounts of areas, but you can't take part in what would essentially be wargames that allow you to make the history of the game, or participate in anything that actually does add plot to the overall game itself. the experience in Warcraft is simply "Gain enough levels, get the right equipment, and defeat the opponents of my Alignment".

in PSO? not only was SEGA making quests for the game, but they also allowed PLAYERS to make quests that other players could undertake. And any rares came not from fulfilling the requirements of a specific quest, but from fighting a large enough amount of enemies that the weapon might actually drop, then worrying about identifying it as the right weapon with the right stats. The only thing that could make that better would be something that, out of all the games I've played, only one has. Oblivion, and it's dungeon diving to get specific weapons (Mehrune's Razor, anyone?)
