Punishment or Discipline. Is there a difference??? If so, .... How??

I think that's one of the markers of slavery in my mind, in its strive towards usefulness and service it actually pushes outside the box of submission into something not quite as passive. "submission" is kind of a "make me" stance whereas slavery is more of a "I make myself useful" stance.

Netz by your partial definition I would be considered a slave. Yet I know I just don't have that extra percentage as I see it to consider myself so. Interesting.... I am not challenging your opinion either on the matter , just mulling over perceptions.

In raising kids, I don't believe in punishment. I do believe in discipline and natural consequences.

Not to pick on you Fury but it cracks me up when people say this.

I think the word "punishment" has been so twisted by society these days that many people often forget that all punishment actually means is a penalty for an undesirable action. Taking away their toy, grounding them, or putting children in a corner etc. is a form of punishment often used to teach them better discipline and control of their own behaviors.

Beating a kid sensless isn't punishment...it's abuse and they are not the same thing though they have become synonomous in many people minds.

Oh I usually enjoy making people laugh.

I just happen to see it the way I already said.

See, to me "Discipline" is the word that's getting screwed up. I just don't like it as, or think of it as, a verb.

Language is slippery.

I think they're both being screwed up actually...it's just that I find it funny when "punishment" is screwed up.
