A word from a writer..?

Many a time and often have I complained about the bimbo/hunk mentality which seems to pervade the whole of the the erotica "industry".

As a writer, I find this worship of the body beautiful has been taken to totally absurd lengths. This site is no different, with "authors" invariably using over-the-top, tongue-hanging-out descriptions of their main characters. It has become an utter nonsense with all credibility thrown in the bin.

No story of mine is populated with casting-couch starlets. I believe in taking my reader with me, allowing him/her actually to believe... to believe that what he/she reads could actually be happening. To me, this is the very essence of taking the reader to another place - the start point - of good story writing.

Long live the boy/girl next door...

I'll second that. Women (especially) have been made to feel like second class citizens if they don't conform to the ideal. Whereas like many others I can't stand the sight of rolls of body fat doing their own thing (which is a health issue way over and above its unsightliness) I think that ordinary "plainness" doesn't get anywhere near enough of a look-in with erotic writing.

Erotic authors seemingly just can't - or more likely won't - believe what a draw it is for a non-catwalk model reader to think that she too could be the object of fantasising. Shows how gutter-level stupid most of these scribblers must be, not to seize this opportunity.

Read your Christmas tale, by the way. See your messages.
