Right? Vacating the speaker chair has completely disabled congress - for now. Nothing legislative can happen until they elect a new speaker.

Who is winning? The richest, that's who. The different factions of the big business capitalist class are engaged in a game of who will blink first, and they all intend to make the working class pay the price. It's an outrage.

Biden will accept cuts to anything other than the war in Ukraine and will try to present the compromise as somehow helping the workers. Gaetz, representing the MAGAs that I talked about who want to burn the house down, wants to stop the funding of the war in Ukraine amongst other things and to up the pressure on the issue, including perhaps pushing it to the point of a chaotic situation where there's a federal government shutdown and defaulting on its debts, which would have huge effects across America and the world. McCarthy was trying to bridge the different sections of the Republican Party and the capitalist class in general, and has now been removed, sending a lot of the ruling class into worry or even panic (for their future profits), but the working class will be made to pay by all these factions, no matter who blinks first.
 
The government will eventually default. All that's left is when. Nobody wants it happening now but delaying makes it worse. The people who are ready for default are mostly absent from politics, such as off grid and Amish families. Not their problem.

Democrats: It doesn’t matter who the candidate is. It’s the values. This explains Democrats dying in office (or on the SCOTUS), being vegetables in office (Fetterman), being absolute idiots, loons or liars (ends justifies the means), being senile, or corrupt (Biden) or being druggies and drunks, or even employing Chinese spies or violating mask and lockdown rules. All they have to do is vote the Party line. It’s about values, minority values*.

Now, the Republicans (leadership?) are in complete disarray, fighting over values, ideas and candidates as people. We see when their extreme acts out, the moderates push back and fight back giving the Democrats something to attack. They should be more like the Democrats who when prompted by their extreme wing to act, to take the leap, to jump like they’re Twain’s Calaveras County frog, their only reaction is “How High Comrade? Off what cliff? What are my lines?”

There is a divide between the races and this is not a distraction by any stretch of the imagionation. The last year or so we've been making progress against the super rich with an increase in unions and strikes. We've still got a long, long way to go but for the first time in my life I'm hopeful that things will improve.

Unfortunately it's been necessitated by people who deliberately drew up the district boundaries in ways that ensured that no black representation ever happened. It was because of that straightforward institutionalized racism that laws were passed to force the redrawing of boundaries so that the representation was proportional.

Whether that's a distraction from the way tax and business laws are constructed is possible but surely people can think of two issues at the same time.
