Rope or fluffy cuffs?

It depends

I'm sorry but for me it depends on my mood

RoamMe :rose:

What if you're old fashioned like me..... really old fashioned.

I LOVE stocks.

When I was working at that midieval shop they had one at the warehouse that they wanted to bring into the shop. Nothing like being paddled in stocks where even if your knees give your ass is still in accessable. :D

I've known a few subs who actually enjoy confinement for a few hours as a form of meditation and relaxation.

To help my back my doctor suggested tieing my legs apart and to the bedposts. So I used some tent ropes for the occason(s) talk about erotic dreams. The back is fine, not sure if the wife would let me do that again the the problem crops up again.

You're right and I thank you.

But I would hesitate before calling me ignorant. Ignorant about handcuffs, maybe but hopefully not ignorant in general.

And I did look up information on cuffs earlier.

Oh, don't get me wrong. There's a vast gulf between being ignorant of a subject and ignorant as a personality trait. I was aiming solely at "ignorant of a subject".

Fluffy cuffs? Eeewwwwwww...

Rope. Hemp rope tied in a French (or Portuguese) bowline, most commonly.

The problem with any form of double bowline is that it will not self tighten, and so it is extremely hard to get it tight enough. The trouble with any sort of double slip knot is that it will self tighten, and so you need to be very careful to use a non-slip lock knot after it so that as your victim struggles she can't cut off her own circulation.

The problem with rope in general is that ties take a long time, so that changing your victim's position during sex can cause an awkward interruption in play. For all these reasons, while I like rope, I think good solid heavy leather cuffs and plenty of double ended clips are better for practical use. They also aren't quick to put on but once they're on they're very quick and easy to reconfigure.

For securing a resisting victim quickly I've experimented with the quick-release reusable zip ties used in the forestry industry for tying young trees. They work, with two cautions:

(1) Once you have her secured you need to replace these with leather cuffs fairly quickly because they are narrow and will dig in and mark if she's struggling much;
(2) I haven't tried them with someone who was particularly strong, or serious about resisting being tied.

However as a means of quickly securing someone who won't sit still to have her leather cuffs put on (and, really if she will sit still to have her leather cuffs put on, where's the thrill?) they work, and, in my opinion, are a safer option than metal cuffs.

Police officers also get far more aggressive with their charges than BDSM practitioners, forcibly apprehending and subduing suspects. If you are merely using them to hold your partner's wrists/ankles in a secure position, I don't see the risk.

H'mmmm... Some people who play, like to play out scenarios which involve serious resistance. People do hurt themselves, and they do hurt one another. If you play these sorts of games you need to think seriously about the risks and how to minimise them.

By all means if you like them, rock on. What we are trying to do is more for others who might venture into this thread.

If we don't bring up the risks then some one might run off thinking it's all happy fun and not know that if you cuff too tight you increase the risks.

Y'all have been very informative and thought provoking. We were going to play with metal cuffs, but with this information think we will start lighter.

I know, I agree. I haven't been tied down in any capacity in a long time... I tend to prefer being restrained by my husband himself...his hands, his weight, etc. But that's just me, and that's for our own preferred activities. For the kind of play we're talking about here, I said I would prefer cuffs, but now I'm thinking that the next time we do engage in that kind of play, we probably will stick to the velcro restraints we have. The metal cuffs just don't seem worth the risk, suddenly...

Which is a long-winded way of saying thanks for the info on the potential dangers, everyone!

Precisely what I was thinking.

That would be a situation where cuffs would be a bad idea and rope would be better. Harm reduction is key.

I am relatively new to this whole thing.

I figured that from previous posts. Still, posts above show ably that you are not ignorant as a person. No worries. Experience will happen.
