September Film Challenge 🎬

It’s super interesting that this thread is less populated than the music one. I got ideas.
I think it was more popular the first time around. People have a much larger catalog of music to choose from for prompts without being repetitive than they do with movies.

What are your ideas? For this thread or a new one?

My idea is mostly that my perspective on the relative weight of film vs. music may be influenced strongly by my own personal story 🤣. Plus ease of consumption.

But I’ll think on how to make cinema reign supreme more generally 🤣

Now I wanna know your personal story...

I love movies. I want this thread to thrive. So I wanna help any way I can.

Day 26: A movie with the best plot twist

Like in @lavendersilk's choice of the Sixth Sense, I believe a good plot twist must be built on a foundation of hints and foreshadowing. It's one thing to have the killer rip of their mask and scream "but it was ME, DIO!" and be done with it, but to craft a film that on a second viewing has you going "how in the ever loving name of FUCK did I not catch that"? That requires some serious writing-chops.

The first time I watched The Prestige, as soon as the credits rolled I wound the tape back and watched it all over again. It was all I could do to keep from ripping my hair out.

I didn't catch the twist in Sixth Sense until it was revealed, but my (then) wife did, which annoyed me! It was very well done. It forced you to rethink everything you had seen in the movie.

The Prestige is another great example of that, and even subtler and harder to spot. That movie was a pleasure because I knew nothing about it when I watched it and had no idea what to expect. Also, David Bowie as Tesla was cool.

Day 30: Your go-to movie for a pick me up

I love Edgar Wright's style and detail focus. And music. And humor. And arcade games. And romance. And martial arts movies. So....

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)

Visual clever, amusing dialog, and a great "put it on and just check out type movie." A perfect comfort movie for me.

(Oh, yeah!)
Easily top 5 movie ever in my book!

Top 5?!?

Now I need to hear the other 4.

So many better movies for pick me ups than this in my humble opinion.
Well top 5 movie ever.
Not top 5 pick me up 😁
For pick me up I want cheesy, stupid and fun.
On top of my head right now for pick me up:
10 Things I hate about you.
The Holiday
Grease (shut up I LOVE it)
