I come to Literotica for erotic reading and writing experiences. For mainstream I look elsewhere, but I recently read a 750-word non-erotic story here which I immediately added to my very short favorite story list. The author is Jackie.Hikaru and the story is titled Honey. If you’re a dog lover and choose to read it, have Kleenex nearby—but not for the traditional Literotica purposes.

A short standalone: And then there were five 1.9K words, E&V

It's my second worst rated story, probably because it is so short and has no sex.
No sex could be the reason. 😜
But will give it a try. 😊
Thanks for sharing.

And trust me, many of the readers like me prefer shorter stories in 2k or 3k words. One shot story and done with it types For a quick read.

I think that's going to be a good read. Thanks for sharing. 👍 😊

Hello dear readers and writers.

I often wonder why we don't have a tag or option to select stories based on the number of words here on Literotica.

Many of us prefer reading shorter stories, quick reads, and move on to another chapter or new story.

Many of us can't write pages together and feel pressurized to write lengthy chapters.

So this thread is basically for such readers and writers who prefer stories within 1K words to 3K words.

All the writers who would want to share their stories with readers who prefer reading shorter chapters, please share the link here, chapter name and please mention the number of words.

Interested readers can select, read, vote, and comment on such stories.

Readers - non writers, can also share a known story of their choice of any writer but within those word limits.

Any genre, any topic, any tag, just stories within 1K to 3K words.

An example of my own story posted below.
Hope you all enjoy reading and writing.

Here’s the first chapter of my longest series, all of the parts are quite short though (between 2k-3k).

Bessie’s New Job Pt.1

I think there's room for stories of every length, including very short ones. I generally prefer to read and write stories that are somewhat longer--say 5000 to 15,000 words, but I've written over half a dozen 750 word stories and enjoyed the process. The only thing that's a bit discouraging is that my very short stories earn much, much lower scores than my longer stories on average.

My most successful short story is Wandering Hands: https://www.literotica.com/s/wandering-hands-2.

Where were you for our annual 750 Word event? Imagine it - writers from all over Literotica writing complete stories without chapters, with out "to be continued" in 750 words exactly! Here's a sample, and here's another one. The 750 word short story event occurs every February. (The shortest month)

The two stories I entered in our Summer Fun event, The Preacher and the Chocolate Lady, and The Last Road Trip are both around 5000 words. That's 2 pages of readable joy. Take a look and come back in February for the 750 word event where YOU_CAN_BE_ONE_OF_US

Wooow
What a reply.
I'd love to participate in 750 words contest.
It'll be fun.

I write pretty much only short stories.

Yes, it's partly a focus/boredom issue in my case... but genuinely I think that long-winded, multi-chaptered epics are not suited to eroticism which, by its nature, should be talking about fireworks. It's not for nothing that people talk of a "bang".

Add to this the fact that the short story is the only "format" worth the name within fiction writing more generally.

With the rest, it's often a simple "meander" where the reader can be forgiven for feeling that it's being made up as the writer goes along, with perhaps even no actual plan in mind as to the outcome.

The short story, by contrast, has to be thought through before starting and tight control of setting, characters and plot applied. To achieve a punchy, enjoyable tale within those confines is a tour de force. We're almost talking an art form.
