Sights you never thought you'd see...

Here myinnerslut, let's try this.... I've enhanced your picture and made it a little larger.

(edit to add: note to all, pics show up really dark on the site so I've found it better to brighten them up lighter than normal prior to posting then they look more normal after posting. Just a hint. ;) )

Oh no problem, here's a picture of my collar. It's all leather.

edit to add: It looks like a necklace when I'm wearing it.

Oh, I saw one like that once and fell in love with it. it's so pretty and surprisingly very close to something I'd wear on my own, collar or not. :)

They were Teenagers. Teenagers = rebellious = out to push boundaries = want to show everyone how different they are by being just like someone else... *shrugs* The pair in Wal-mart were no different.

My kids hated me as teenagers...

I got my ear pierced, I got tattooed, I listen to everything from classical music, big band, and jazz to punk rock, metal, oldschool funk and hip-hop. I vote independently, and I've got friends across most cultural/economic/racial lines.

What the hell could they rebel against???? *LMAO* Turn into little Michael J. Fox clones??? *LOL* I think they only thing they could have done as teens to piss off the old man would've been to become skin-heads and neither one of them were brought up with that kind of prejudice and bigotry so that wasn't an outlet for them.

Noooooo, as immature and foolish as the young couple in Wal-mart were, they were not "flagging", they were not doing ANYTHING sexual except perhaps in the minds of the observer, and the reaction they got there says more about the minds of the observers than it does about the kids themselves. *chuckles* The reactions HERE tell me more about the posters on this Board than it does about the Goth kids...

If you want to stop that sort of behavior, you just quietly stop and ask the young couple:
"You two do realize that wearing that collar and walking around on a leash, you are telling everyone who sees you two, that you are his/her sex slave, willing to do anything to please him/her? Is that what you are meaning to tell everyone?"

Watch how fast the collar comes off.... *weg* Just like telling those baggy pants kids
"You DO know that wearing your pants like that means you are someone's ass-bitch, don't you?"

Gawd I'm mean sometimes... *LOL*

I know teenagers quite well. My oldest child will be turning 21 next Sunday, and my next oldest is 16. I know exactly what you're talking about and agree that most teens will find something to rebell against. However, as I stated, this couple seemed as if they could've been older than the "teen" years. I do know they were at least old enough to drive, because they made a trip out to their car as I was leaving the store.

Like I said, I knew they weren't "flagging", or doing anything sexual. Their demeanor said rebellion to the core, you are exactly correct. The ONLY reason I didn’t go up to them and say anything to them is that is exactly what they were looking for… reactions, confrontations, and I wasn’t playing the game. They were in full game mode, full game strut and armed with their “posse”. I was there alone doing my shopping, minding my own business, listening and watching the goings on.

For the most part it actually struck me as funny at first. It wasn’t until later that the other thoughts that I’ve posted in this thread came into my head.

Thank you for joining the conversation.

Heh, there was a kid I knew it school, and at one time, he was dating a preppy girl, so he was acting the role and stuff. And, they broke up, no idea why, and a few days later, he starts dating a goth girl. Within two days, he dyes his hair, and gets a mohawk (which was so fricken ugly, it was astounding). Any-way, a week later, he ditches the mohawk, and starts wearing Emo glasses (despite the fact that his hair's still dyed, or that he's never needed glasses.) It all made me very amused, because I knew that kid's dad (we played when we were little) and he's a heck of a conservative stern type, who must have been all kinds of pissed off.
So, yeah, Teenagers are extremely whimsical and easily amused, I can almost guarentee you those two came up with that idea the same day.

No doubts about it! They were ready for their "game". LOL.

I have to say that we see Goths a lot. My kids don't even blink anymore. Once my daughter pointed to one (I said not to point at people) and said 'Mommy, look at that!'. I said "Some people think that looks good. It's not a big deal.' I prefer to explain Goths than girls in next to nothing. At least Goths are fully covered.

Good point! :)

See that's the way I'd deal with it too, if I had small kids. No big deal. Some people just like to look different, funny, or strange.

*shrug*

But once, with my young cousin, many years ago, she asked me why some guy had long hair. I was a teen. I smiled and said, why don't you ask him? So she did. We had a very nice conversation with that hottie. :D

*winks*

I think I have a future Goth kid in my house. She's 10, but has said many times how "cool" she thinks it looks. I'd rather see her in black and painted up over dressed all skimpy!

I worry about making sure I leave them something to rebel against that won't drive me nuts. It's not as easy as it sounds and it's somewhat manipulative because there is not a lot that would be of concern to me and those things are pretty damned serious.

I dislike people to try to shock me. At best, they seem pretty silly to me. They tend to dislike me too because it's pretty hard to shock me, life has shocked me too many times for me to react in a satisfying way to those sorts.

Mine are 22 and 20... *grins* I've survived the teens! YAY! *lol* Hope you make it through the next few years with only minor bumps along the way. Ahhh, the joys of parenting!

And you're quite welcome!

I agree. I wouldn't flag in walmart, but I'm not going to chew a 17 year old out for being young stupid and overt.

Ah to be stupid and 17. I think it's kinda cute. And I'm sure it means a lot to them, whatever the meaning might be.

My mother says that parents of teens know why some animals eat their young.

OK, I don't have kids, so don't blame me for that. But, depending on their age, I'd just say the guy had a new kind of radio and she was his antenna.

OK, I'm leaving now.

People are weird. But generally, until the teens start helping themselves to employee-only areas or making loud nuisances of themselves, they could dress up in furry costumes and I'd just wish I had a camera handy. :p

Teens are teens.

I'm probably much more kinky than that young couple ever thought of being. LOL
A bit presumptuous, you think?

If they wanted to go out to a club or party like that, No problem. Or even some other all adult venue, No problem. Well... ok maybe no problem... Thoughts?
Wouldn't bother me. It's just a chain and some leather, not full frontal nudity.

You laugh, but it's possible that your kids could have dressed up like Mormons and gone to abortion protests. That'd be rebellious.

"All Goths must wear trenchcoats at all times, even in 40 degree weather. Pleas to be able to wear your evil black goth shorts will be ignored"

I suppose it was, but it was also said jokingly hence the laugh afterwards. Thanks for pointing that out.

I don't think it was presumptuous at all.. in the context of the post in which it was included.

You may not be the "norm" that shops at WalMart either.

The problem is, that so many view BDSM as all leather and collars and whips and chains... and this kind of dress reinforces the stereotype from which we have to try to get out from...

That's just my opinion... take it or leave it.
