The meaning is more in general, not necessarily romantic. Friends, acquaintances, possibilities, etc. Seeing how someone's behavior shifts hurts when you thought you knew what was what.

I think the same lies true.
You surround yourself with enough people without passion for life and you begin to take on the lack of life....

You surround yourself with people and things that you desire and dream and feel full of life and adventure and wonder.... You feel that being alive and being free is indeed fire.
