Sir Winston

So very sorry to hear this. SW will be sorely missed and my thoughts and prayers go out to all who cared for him and especially to YK.

SW made Lit a better place. He made me a better person. The ripples of his life will continue to spread but I will miss him every day.

All love to you, YK.

Let's raise a toast to our friend Sir Winston

Tonight, at 10PM Central Time (U.S.), I plan to pour a glass of whiskey and fill my mind with good memories of Sir W. I'll read a few PMs from him that I've saved, and will cruise back through some of his old posts. But mostly I'll be reflecting on how much my life is richer for having been friends with a guy I never met in person.

Won't you join me, at least in spirit?

Peace and love to you YK. SW will be missed by so many of us.

Sir Winston was a wonderful man, and I feel lucky to have known him.
Peace and love to you, YK :rose:

I'll join you. I'll be watching the Patriot's game, too. SW introduced me to the joys of running a football pool on poolhost and I still run it one elsewhere. He's been on my mind all day.

Thank you so much for doing this. I'll be with you.

:rose: will be there in spirit

I don't have any whiskey, but I'll raise a glass of something...

(I have the urge to pick out the best jewels [and best grumpy old man :) ] posts of SirW's, and re-post them. lol)

I'll lift a glass as well, and it will actually be good whiskey for SW.

Me, too. Yes, he did love his football pool. I never joined in. I was an outsider looking in, I guess. When it was posted in the thread, I was always interested in who thought which team was best and who would win each week's pool.

Kind thoughts and many prayers for you during this time, YK. I am so very sorry. What a gift you were with him to the end... and simply beautiful words you have shared.

From reading the FYC and this thread, I can tell he was a deeply beloved friend (and more). I hope you find comfort, peace, and support here and outside the web.

Very Best,
HM

SW left early this morning at 2 AM MST. I was the only person by his side, but we were not alone. He did not struggle or feel pain; he simply took a deep breath and was gone.

I will have more to say in the coming days but for now I leave you with this from our hearts to all of you.

"I saw the light fade from the sky
On the wind I heard a sigh
As the snowflakes cover my fallen brothers
I will say this last goodbye

Night is now falling
So is this day
The road is now calling
And I must away

Over hill and under tree
Through lands where never light has shone
By silver streams that run down
To the sea

Under cloud beneath the stars
Over snow on winter’s morn
I turn at last to paths that lead home
And though where the road then takes me I cannot tell
We came all this way but now comes the day to bid you farewell

Many places I have been
Many sorrows I have seen
But I don’t regret
Nor will I forget
All who took that road with me

Night is now falling
So is this day
The road is now calling
And I must away

Over hill and under tree
Through lands where never light has shone
By silver streams that run down
To the sea

To these memories I will hold
With your blessing I will go
To turn at last to paths that lead home
And though where the road then takes me I cannot tell
We came all this way but now comes the day to bid you farewell
I bid you all a very fond farewell"

:rose: YK (& SW)

mom died five years from cancer. everything is raw for you now. Don't be alone in these early days and keep busy.

That'd be awesome. I was thinking of having the librarian do something like that, but I'm struggling to find the time. Well, and everytime I start, I just can't go on past a couple of posts.

My heart goes out to you, and I wish I could offer you more comfort. Sir Winston will be missed by so many people. I missed the big toast, but I'll lift one now for you both.
