The first in a five-part series posted this afternoon.

By The Numbers, Ch.01

Nate is a shy, quiet young man who meets Sheila, the embodiment of his sexual fantasies. She's the kind of woman men lust after, and more than that, seems dedicated to her boyfriend.

But one night, Sheila surprises Nate with an offer no horny young man could refuse . . . sex 'by the numbers.'

Sheila turns the heat up a notch as she and Nate return to the same field, this time stepping outside the car to feel the fresh, cool air . . . and each other.

Perhaps I'm being picky, but, after a great build-up between the inexperienced young college guy and the older, wiser unattainable sexpot, the sex scene in the car seemed a bit too much on level terms. Shouldn't he have been a bit shyer?

Still, the premise is great and I admire your facility with dialogue.

I may have been a bit too anxious to get to the action, as it were. Then again, I knew in my mind who Nate is; I could have expressed him a bit better to the readers.

I'll keep that in mind for future stories.

Sheila gets even more daring with Nate, taking him to a supposedly secluded gazebo on a college campus to further their sexual explorations. This time, however, someone catches them . . . .

The culmination of the series has a profound impact on Nate and Sheila's relationship as certain truths are revealed.

Ow! My eyes hurt from all that red! Congrats on the reception of the new story. Haven't got to it yet, but that seems like a deja vu conversation with you.

Anyway, can I steal, with proper credit, some/all of the author note to your TMA story? Seems silly to rewrite it and it would keep it consistent - at least until I break the rules. Chase and Box may have a conversation and another agent gets sent back to Germany where she'll hopefully get laid before fulfilling her mission.

Shock Radio

My Halloween Contest entry posted early this morning. Entitled Shock Radio, it's the tale of Joe Rags, a satellite radio talk show host who receives a very mysterious -- and nefarious -- caller.

This is the darkest story I've ever written for Lit, and is a marked departure from much of my work. Read at your own risk, and please vote!

Strangely so was I. That's why I know the contest was rigged. I read about 15 of the contest entries - and voted on nine.

Three 5's, two 4's, two 3's and two 2's. No 1's this contest. I try to use the full range of vote choices on contest stories to differentiate between what I believe are excellant stories and those I find just average.

I voted oily's story a 3. It wasn't terrible, just average to my mind.

So what happened to my 3? A very interesting question given that if a story ends up with a 4.96 rating and 25 total votes (as oily's did) no 3 vote could have been counted! It's mathematically impossible.

The only way to arrive at the score oily recieved was if he got 24 votes of 5 and 1 of 4. No other possibility.

Seems more obvious to me that your votes are being swept away because of who you are--possibily based on past behavior--rather than the number you voted.

We aren't told what the formulas are for sweeping votes. They do seem to be quite stringent, though. Just no telling what they are.
