Snippetsville: General Discussion

Pierce, that was sweet of you, made me feel 'at home'. I think Sian will be at Hannah's, pining over having to let the York bloke go. But we know she'll get over him asap.

cheers, Perdita

I may do this type of newspaper column periodically through the year, as kind of a thread binding stories together.
Brilliant idea! In fact I'd suggest a regular news column for inclusion among the issues (every other?). It would help readers too, give that bindingness, whatever. Yea! Now think of a byline name and write a new year's column.

Happy Christmas,

Perdita

Ideas needed

No not story ideas:rolleyes:

What I need to develop the Massage Parlour idea is a town council - from my research even the smallest tows seem to have some council that administers local government.

So instead of randomly creating a council, I thought I would do this democratically, by asking you all to propose one of the characters you have created as a member of the council.

PierceStreet:) Thanks for your Town Council nomination - I am glad to hear he will be against the Massage Parlour - publicly.

We will have to wait and see how Marianne will deal with members of the council - or maybe with councillmen's members;)

- Do I already hear ego inflated bigwigs solemnly declaring "I did not have sex with that woman." But that may be jumping the gun so to speak.

Am I to take it from your comments that constitutional seperation of religion and state means members of the clergy do not stand for elected posts? - However no matter I had already pencilled in Pastor Niles and Father Morrison joined in an ecumunical crusade against the Massage parlour.

Come on folks more nominations for the Council.

Character name: Theodore Johnson
age: 40ish
occupation: owner of the Lazy Snips Dude Ranch and Stable
physical description: The driver of a red, late model Mustang with a horn that plays a tinny rendition of Buffalo Gals. A short, balding man, with a paunch, wearing a ridiculously large ten gallon hat and very shiny, very pointy boots. In all fairness, this is a masquerade costume, maybe?
appearing in: Cowboys and Elaine

Teddy is single and definitely FOR the massage parlor. He is a proponent of free enterprise and openly states, at the Chamber of Commerce meetings he attends, that if there is a market niche, then someone should fill it.

Besides, the massage parlor may grow to a full service spa someday. That could only be good for Snippettsville.

I've been out of the loop for a couple of days, so I'm a bit behind on things, but here goes...

PierceStreet - love the idea of the newspaper column. Keep it going! I like too the idea of incorporating it into the 'Tales' issues, but not sure how yet. WSO is out of touch until after New Year so we'll need to wait for her views. It's awkward these Kiwis having summer in the middle of winter :)

Jon - I think the Town Council is a great idea. My nomination for a member is Alison Jenner, who runs the Mini-Mart with her twin sister, Sally Devine. Alison is a divorcee of 31 who came back to Snippettsville when the marriages of both sisters failed within a year of each other.

Alison and her sister have been known to exchange clothes and identities, so it might be Sally that turns up at meetings...

Hi Alex,

Hope you had a good Christmas up there in snowland. Have a good New Year.

Thanks for your candidate for the Town Council.

Same to you Champagne.

I hope in the near future to get together with PierceStreet and to produce the minutes of a zoning committee meeting and a report on the biggest demonstration seen in Snippetsville since Jack Carr set fire to his Draft Card in 1971. If I remember correctly half the town turned out to support him and the other half wanted to run him out of town. The demonstration and counter demonstration fizzled out when it was realised the draft card had been in the back pocket of his pants while he was warming himself in front of a log fire. Incidentally he missed his draft because he was in the burns unit having skin grafts on his buttocks. - Since that day he has avoided wearing nylon pants.

Lancelot,

Gotta agree with Pierce, excellent story and, without wishing to appear a twat I'd love to edit it for you (for edit read re-write) at least the first part.

The amount of history you managed to convey in 600 words plus a sex scene was just excellent.

There's light at the end of my tunnel!

** raises head above parapet of marked assignments **

The penalty for being a part-time lecturer - marking! I was determined not to go into 2004 with it unfinished, but it was damnably close! Finished the last one half an hour ago. Explains a lot of my recent absence...

Pierce - nice work! Sorry to hear about the flu. Hope you're all well.

To everyone - my best wishes to you all for 2004. 'Tales' #9 will be submitted sometime in the next few days, just as soon as I can get it ready.

I hope everyone is having a nice beginning to their New Year and that all bugs and flu viruses are easing.

PierceStreet, I really like your columns, great work there! Perhaps you could write a couple of columns, one for the Masquerade Ball Issue, coming out after Issue 11 and another for Jon's Massage Parlor riot. :)

Great addition Lancelot and welcome to the SG :)

...rest easy PierceStreet, I just popped in to see if my pc could handle the 'big smoke' again. ;) Will be back properly in another week. Glad to see everything's hanging together. :)

Just a note to say that issue nine of the 'Tales' has been submitted. Now we wait...

Thanks PierceStreet and Gauche for the compliments on the story _Grace_. I appreciate them. It is an idea that has been kicking around in my head for a number of years, but the Snippetsville Group dredged it up.

Gauche, I would be happy to see any revisions or rewrites you might suggest. I'm not sure what is the best way is to accomplish this. A PM? Or if you want to send any suggested changes via e-mail that is all right with me too. E-mail address is Lancelot_Knight@hotmail.com.

One thought occurs to me: what if the revisions push the story outside the limits of the space requirements? Oh, well, we'll deal with that, I suppose, when it happens.

Best regards,

Lancelot

Then you'll learn the skill that's needed in order to cut back verbiage elsewhere. Be warned, you may loose a few hairs while you're looking. lol Please ask if you need help in making the word count. :)

I like both 'Grace' and 'The Bright Edge' Lancelot. Great work. You've managed to pick up the ambience of Snippettsville perfectly.
