So let's talk about other hobbies...

I'm a fermenter (beer, sourdough, yogurt). I have a batch of yogurt doing its thing in my oven right now.

DM me if you want to exchange recipes, pics, or just chat about it.

kayaking, wave running, boogie boarding, canoeing, fishing, & shooting are my favorites.

Contra dancing swimming, and apparently doing the books for nonprofits. I used to play chess, juggle and unicycle ( you can see why I didn’t date in high school).

I play a lot of Contract Bridge. All my bridge friends are twice my age...
Read this as "Contact Bridge".

In no particular order:

  • archery
  • telescope building (to USE them you need to live somewhere that actually has a FUCKING SKY rather than rainclouds and humidity haze)
  • piano
  • reading
  • sailing

You sound like a country retreat in Georgian times.

That's a story waiting to be written. The Society for Enlightened Women have their annual meeting at a country estate in the summer of 1781 to discuss Herschel's discovery.
Which Herschel?

I was referring to William, although from scanning Caroline's biography I'm sure she was just as fixated on Uranus.

And if you prefer, instead of the Society, we could call it the League of Enlightened Wives and Daughters.

I write songs. Pop songs, dance songs, rock songs, ballads, all arrangements and lyrics complete. These days I use a cheap (free) sequencer and plot every note, every beat, every piano fingering, every guitar lead, every waver of the melody.
Hey, PSG... Post one in audio... Background for a story? Or even make it a lit-worthy ballad!

I’ve been to over 40 different minor league and independent league baseball stadiums (plus a handful of spring training sites), and did blog posts for most of them.

I picked up an old weaving loom last week. In the process of rehabbing it, just need to remove the rust on the reed, and I can start practicing with it.

I've always been more of an oral / improv story teller than a writer. I use tabletop roleplaying (Dungeons & Dragons) as my current outlet for this need. So, I am the Dungeon Master for my family's D&D adventures, slowly converting my niece and three nephews from screen junkies to interactive thinkers. They argue far less now as they are learning to act as a team. Also, some of them are showing an interest in hosting their own campaigns with stories they've created themselves. It's exciting!

Doing Zariel's work. (y) I specialised in naive paladins in 2nd edition; most (in)famous for letting a vampire into our lodgings when I failed a wisdom check by rolling a 1 🤦‍♀️

I love creating. I love creating stories because I'm world-building.

So, I like models and dioramas. I like 3-d artistic takes with visuals. I love to build dioramas of fantasy places I want to live or as my imagination runs wild.

Wasn't rolling low good for ability checks in 2nd edition? Low for abilities, high for attack, low for initiative, high for saving throws.

It was a wisdom saving throw or something; needed to roll 16 or better or something stupid like that.

But at least I wasn't our Ranger, who would consistently roll 2 to attack and 1 on any damage roll. Guy was cursed.

I went through a 6-month period once when I couldn't roll higher than a 12.

Our group also briefly had a very casual gamer who'd pop downstairs from visiting his girlfriend, roll three 19s or 20s and go back to shagging. Lucky bastard.

ETA: Curiously, both these characters were paladins. Just about the only two that our group has ever had.
