My Mr. rented a .45 caliber Governor at the range and I cried after firing it. I'm pretty sure guns aren't my thing.

That's not a good revolver for an inexperienced or infrequent shooter to be trying out. The .410 shotgun shell and 45 Colt rounds its chambered for have fair bit of bark and bite even though its an oversized revolver.
And yeah...among other things I used to instruct in firearms training...

Thing was holding it didn't faze me. It has a nice grip. But for some reason it jolted me ( not physically). I just think the loud is too much.
