Space for Whatchamacallits

I've never seen Game of Thrones or Hannibal or True Blood, or heard of Penny Dreadful. I don't like scary things... never seen a horror movie...

thinks for a second

Though for some reason, I can watch fake dead bodies and autopsies on CSI, no problems. Huh.

shrugs and raises her glass of delicious champagne to Brit

Sounds like a wonderful thing, Brit, cheers to you!

I used to write but I stopped. Maybe I'll try again. Have been told I have a rather.... delicious imagination...

blushes and has little sip of champers

Delicious imagination... Sounds intriguing.

I write roleplays with Boyfriend, but when it comes to anything other than that I really struggle. I love writing with him, he has a pretty delectable imagination too...

bites lip

God, I miss him.

You know, I think what I'm lacking is good inspiration. Maybe I'll do something after lunch, read a little poetry or go out walking or something...

Your writing is awesome, PS!

smiles warmly

Truly, it is! And I'd love to read your writing too, Essie. Maybe you should try out the Writing Challenge thread here in the lounge...

winks

...always fun to see what people come up with! Which reminds me, I need to try and write something for it myself!

munches thoughtfully on a strawberry

pinches a strawberry too and enjoys it with a mouthful of champagne

That's a great idea! Our challenge for the day, write something for the Challenge thread!

What do you think, Essie? I'd love to read some of your stuff too, I think it's a brilliant plan.

Takes Pretty's hand over the table

It must be difficult missing him but look at the positives - you live in a time where you can talk to him on the phone, send him an email, talk to him via instant messenger and see him on Skype. It's not like you have to wait anxiously by the mailbox for a letter with an overseas stamp. Take comfort in that and in the fact that as much as you're missing him, he's missing you, so you're fondly in each other's hearts.

Blushing at big speech, taking bite of lemon slice and chewing quietly

What's the Writing Challenge? How does it work?

Good thinking PS! And that was beautifully put, Essie!

And the Challenge thread is something I try to run every month. I give 2/3/4 prompts (they might be photos or gifs or quotes) and people can write whatever they feel inspired to write. There's a word limit that changes every month and I set up two threads running concurrently - one for submissions and another for comments and reviews.

smiles

You can go here and check it out if you're curious.

Eyes wide, chewing thoughtfully

You know what? I think I might give it a crack.

Raising glass

What do you say, ladies? Shall we toast to the three of us doing Brit's June Writing Challenge? I'm in!

Hic!

Brit have you links to the past ones too?

Essie you should check some of the old ones out, they're awesome. Some really good work over the last few months.

That would be good if I could see the sort of thing people have written in the past, give me an idea of the sort of things that are done.

If you haven't got links to them, Brit, maybe you could do something like pop them into Dropbox or similar and PM me a link to it?

Mind you, I'm still working out how to put a picture into a post... I swear, I'm one lightbulb away from being Amish...

There should be a link at the bottom of the opening post to all the previous challenges. You'll find them all there in a handy dandy index, by year and then month.

winks and sips her champagne with a giggle

It's a great way to exercise your brain and get a chance to read things by writers you might otherwise miss. I love setting them up and just seeing what people come back with.

Ooh goody, I shall check them out tomorrow. Will give me something nice to read over breakfast.

Swaying in seat, not used to alcohol

Anyhoodle, why am I the only one raising my glass? Did you not say, Pretty, that we should all take up the challenge to do the June...challenge? We must go clinky with the drinky!

Waving glass slightly haphazardly, little dab of cream somehow on the tip of freckly nose

That we must!

lifts her glass until it's within range of Essie's and keeps going until they meet with a delicate 'chink', and then doing the same to PS's flute

To the challenge of the challenge!

Yes.... what Brit said. Did you clinky my drinky, Pretty?

Stops very still, hiccups delicately

Pretty, would it be awfully rude if I went and had a little nap on your lovely sofa? I feel rather sleepy all of a sudden.

Rubbing nose delicately, now sporting a fetching cream stripe

giggles and, taking a napkin, carefully wipes Essie's face

Hope you don't mind but, you had a little smudge of something there...wouldn't want it getting onto the sofa.

winks

Oh dear! Thank you. No, don't want to get anything on the sofa. It might get cross.

Whispering... loudly

You're awfully nice, Brit. I.. I'm afraid I don't drink very often. It makes me sleepy. But we're having such a lovely tea party and you gave me a flower and... oh dear, where did I put it?

Looking around, spots the flower now standing up proudly in the cream jug

There it is!

It's a very patient sofa, by all accounts, I'm sure it wouldn't mind.

giggles and puts her glass down

And don't worry, part of the magic of this place is that if the real world tugs you away...for sleep or work or whatever else you might be needed for...this, and the people in it, will always be here when you come back.

smiles warmly

Gives Brit a slightly wobbly hug

Thank you, nice lady. I only had one glass, you know.

Looks around

I think Pretty has gone to the kitchen or somewhere. If she comes back, could you please let her know I have gone for a small nap? Thanks ever so.

Walks very deliberately and steadily to the sofa, sits down carefully... then tilts sideways and slumps onto cushion

I shall, have no fear.

quietly putting a glass of water on a side table near the couch for when their new friend wakes up

Now, there's a piece of salmon I need to go and put into the oven for my ravenous little family but...I'll be back...

sneaks a slice of the delicious looking cake to sample while she cooks

Sits up suddenly with a little snort and half a head of cushion hair. Rubbing nose than covering mouth to yawn, then looking puzzled

Why does my nose taste like cream?

Spying glass of water, sips it daintily then takes a few gulps

Ooh, that's lovely.

Seeing Pretty and Brit have disappeared for the time being, settling back on sofa, tucking feet up and discovering a little throw rug over the sofa back

Thank you, sofa, I think I shall have another 40 winks on you if it's okay.

Falls asleep quickly... interspersed with tiny hiccups

smiles a little at Essie, getting up to make sure the blanket is tucked around her warmly, before wandering into the kitchen in search of snacks...

Cracking open one eye, smacking lips to try and get rid of birdcage mouth

Urgh.

Taking another couple of gulps of water, snuggling back under blanket for more sleep

opens the curtains and windows just a little sliver to let some light in, before bringing out some freshly baked scones from the oven, lathering them in butter and making some tea

I'll just put these right here...

sets them on the coffee table before taking one, and her mug of tea, to a large swivel cuddle chair where she flicks the TV on to cartoons

That's right. Pyjama day it is. It's my first night shift tonight in my new job, so I'll have to doze this evening to get all prepared. Hate the thought of a weird sleeping pattern.

Peels blanket down from face, sniffs tentatively

Mmmm, scones.

Sitting up slowly, rubbing face and wincing slightly at the light

I have one glass. One glass. Never again...

Toddling into kitchen, making huge mug of sugary tea, covering a warm scone with lashings of butter and joining Pretty in the TV area

Hello. Sorry about falling asleep last night. Is there anything I can do to help you get ready for new job? Sounds exciting.

sips tea and wrinkles up nose

Nah, I don't think so. I have a feeling it's going to be one of those days today. Had a horrid nights sleep. Had a migraine so I went to bed at about 7, woke up at 11, then 1, then 4, then 6. So far today my mother has been an extra special kind of irritating.

I really wish I could move out of home, but I want to save money for a move to the states, and for visiting there. But at my age, this whole living at home business is just a nightmare.
