spelling errors reported

Volunteer editors have zilch to do with the approval of a story. Two completely separate things.
Thank you for clearing up this point. Perhaps it proves that there are misunderstandings out here as to who does what and why.

Right on. RogueLurker et al expended considerable time and effort to explain the various ramifications of this fact in the "Site Editors vs Volunteer Editors and Other Quick Facts" sticky which is posted near the top of the forum page.

You mean they're supposed to read the stickies?

;)

We're hoping that since they write, they should have a basic knowledge of reading.

'tis a consummation devoutly to be wish'd...but probably too much to be expected.

I'll Take You On

I don't know what proper English is. All I know is what sounds right to my ear. And in my experience I know what sounds British, and I think it cute.

Babble away about "conjunctions", but I understand. That's not a bad thing in my book.

I have edited enough to apreciate and admire the form. It's different, and after 20 years in the military I appreciate it.

If you'd like my help, ask.

What the 'Fuck" is a conjuntion? LOL

Oh come on, CC. You know as well as I do that instruction manuals (on here as FAQs and Stickies) are ONLY to be read if all else fails. Clearly the good folk on here will answer the same question (politely) as often as a newbie comes along to ask it, so the FAQs and Stickies are totally redundant.

You see? THAT is the Snooper I know and love. Dry wit an all.

Stephen King's Story Cell Phone

Sherry Hawk said:
If you just want it proofread, tell them that upfront.

Stephen King uses an editor....'nuff said.

I have been reading Stephen King's latest (??) paperback called "Cell Phone". Haven't finished it yet as I only read when I'm traveling. But I was annoyed by the repeated use of "said", which many here say is the mark of poor writing. As an editor it really stuck out.

Not sure what this mean. The guy sells books. Just noticed.

Really? I thought it was the opposite. Well, it shows how much is a matter of taste.

It's interesting if no one knows who the approvers are, if there's more than one. I'd been assuming there was an elite recruited from our ranks. It's a lot to assume that one person is doing it. One person or many, there's evidence that having an established Lit name helps. I think there's a point at which you get rubber stamped, meaning both faster approval times and that certain things might slide through. On the other hand, my first submission should never have been approved. So who knows? I'm impressed they can keep it such a secret.

Hey Lilith...the rejected for spelling reason is just the particular mod that selects the storys for one day or another , might be just being a little pasive agressive asshole and uses spelling reject as an excuse for not publishing your particular story. You see Lilith...it can't be proved and they will never, never admit it, but that's the way it works. You make a mistake when you decide that everyone the site are as straight and honest as you are.. Wrong thinking but understandable.

Look let's face it. The site has the same kind of assholes that are in real life. To think otherwise would be a mistake. Look the real world had liars...so when liars come on the site they bring their lies with them. when a person with uptight moral attitudes joins the site then he continues to be an uptight ass. So we should expect the site to be full of people like that. Especially on the moderators. Just because a person is a moderator it dosn't mean that he/she/it is a fair creature, above petty little games...No one can be concidered to be what they profess them selves to be.

Now if there is any one that disagrees with me on this then let them do so in an intelligent way and now just spit venom at me because I know you for what you are...

No like you shit for brains.
I interpreted this as: (since you didn't use commas)

You agree with her, and are saying that you're not like her. Therefore, the uptight ass you were talking about was you, not her.

Makes sense. Sweet. :rose:

Let's all point and laugh at the GB'er...want to?

It drives 'em nuts.

Children, children; if you can't play nicely together on the one thread, play separately and have a thread each.

This isn't Putman Publishing

Glad someone else has been having problems getting stories accepted.

The Writer of Spenser for Hire said that when he writes a story he has his wife look it over , he makes corrections and then sends it to his publisher. There it is up to a proof reader correct things he missed.

Since we are not being paid for submissions and editors here are volunteers , shouldn't you all just relax a little?

No.

You may not take pride in what you write, but I do, and I know many, many others who feel the same.

If we all just "relaxed," the quality of the site as a whole would decline, and then decline further as authors like me depart for other sites where quality is a priority. There are already plenty of stories here that make me cringe. I don't want to see the overall quality decline.

That's why this is the only online site where my work is published (unless someone's plagiarized it). If you have any aspirations to do more than "write porn," then you need to stop calling for everyone to let the rules slide, and work on the quality of your own work instead.

The rest shouldn't dumb down so that your works don't get rejected. That's just silly.

Just like Cloudy, I take pride in what I do. I might not be the writer that she is, but I know that I'm damn good at editing. I'm proud of this ability and I REFUSE to sit back and relax just a little while the quality of writing goes down and down.

If it were me, every single story would have to pass through a Lit-approved editor before even being allowed to submit a story for Lit approval. The posting time would increase exponentially, I know, but at least, we'd see quality stories more often than we do now.

So, MoS, relax as much as you want, top from the bottom as much as you want, but please, don't ask serious writers and editors to do as you do....not every person has standards as low as you and some others seem to show.
