"Subbies"

I am drinking port now.... to hell with the coffee.

mmm port, so smooth so drinkable and damn have I been drinking it out of wine glasses again?

re subbie and other such terms: it does depend. I always thought I would never let anyone get away with calling me honey but then I met a sweet northern lass who called me honey all the time and I didn't mind one bit!!

I hate darlin, sugar, luv but I'm okay with pet (I'm from the north)and sweetheart.

I don't think I would like the term subbie to be used towards or about me, but then I'm not a sub. However even in scene play I am pretty sure I wouldn't like it. I think because it makes me think of the kind of sub who refers to themselves in the thirdperson - I could never do this as I feel it takes something away from my essential identity.

Each to their own!

Amen, sister!

That whole "this small one asks for Your gracious permission to go pee" thing isn't for me, boys and girls. I'd be a flop as a Gorean, as a result.

Heck, i'm a native Californian who says (and writes) y'all alot just cuz it's shorter. That third person stuff is too damned wordy for me!

To me ..My Pearl is "Mon Petite" ..Which is probably incorrect grammar..But thats the way I learned it long ago.

The other day there was a post around here somewhere with the title "How do subbies feel about.." or something to that nature. I couldn't even open it to read it because all I could think of was the poster sitting there with a snotty smirk on his face and talking down to all the little "subbies". So yeah...the word has negative connections for me. If my Domme called me that, I wouldn't think anything of it or blink an eye, but the same goes for many terms....slut, baby, darling...those words from her are affectionate and loving. From others whom that is not appropriate to the relationship, the word reverts back to its original ill-feeling for me.

It just reeks of disrespect. Rather like if I was playing with a dominant and s/he gave me an order and I were to reply "sure dude" or "no problem chick". Probably wouldn't go over all that well.

Subbie is an offencive term?.
News to me, I think it's cute, I like it.

LOL, that may be related to the fact you are a male and of more recent times perhaps. :)

I take no offense with the term 'subbie'. I really never considered it even a topic of concern.

Because I'm a male? shouldn't that make it even odder? I meant for myself, I've been called subbie before by others and referenced myself as one....

But yeah, probably because I'm new lol, I can't read the unspoken rules :p.

Doesn't bother me to be called a subbie.

Of course the tone and context can change this fact.

I actually see it more as a collective term. "You subbies" is kind of like saying "you submissive types" to me. I'm not sure if I find it derogatory or not - I don't think so, though I don't especially love it either - but it is definitely more collective in my mind.

I dont find the term " subbie" irritating nor I think it's derogatory , as in others contexts I'm not annoyed about words like "honey" or similar pet names , maybe that's because English is not my language so I can't easily get the shades of meanings which can imply other than the aseptic observation of the word in itself . :rose:

I've been called worse. ;)

No, I've never thought of the word "subbie" as something disparaging.
When He spoke it, it was a term of endearment! :)

I am a submissive and from seaMaster tells me I am a damn good one. If my Master wants to call me His sub, subbie or whatever, well, that is all right with me. Actually He has started calling me His sweet little sub. I personally don't have a problem with the term. To each their own. slave c

Blah, ech yuck. I find it totally irritating. What is wrong with a perfectly intelligible word like "submissive?"

But I don't even like "Domme" very much, I'm a Dominant also.

I cant stand the word 'subbie'

Submissive is a word to be proud of as is slave.

To me, subbie is a patronising term,

I have used it, usually when talking to Doms who try to put me down. I then say something like 'I don't know, I am just a poor little subbie'

I can never figure out if 'subbie' means I am one of those sandwich things or a submarine

As many have already stated, there are worse names/titles than 'sub' or 'subbie'. How i feel about how i am addressed by name depends entirely upon who is doing the name calling. If they are anyone other than my owner, i would be hard pressed not to respond with, "No, i don't mind you calling me a subbie. And i should feel free to refere to you as the Dommie, huh?".

Seriously though, the labels and names and abbreviations etc don't bother me a bit. Life is too short to get bent out of shape over all of the insignificant little things. i tend to pick my battles carefully.

Oh, and in regard to having been called worse things and specifically when it's my Master doing the 'calling', .... He can call me anything that pleases Him, and i tend to LIKE being called the "worse things" in that respect. ;) .... and when not being called worse things, He addresses me by my given name, or simply 'beautiful'. ..... .

Subbie with some chips and a drink

Having detected a streak of submissiveness that I have independently verified... I am fairly certain I am a sub, or possibly a switch. Since I am new to what "polite society" still considers a taboo subject, I still get the giggles  and embarrassed. I call myself a subbie to let others know it is ok to make light hearted fun along with me as I make the mental adjustment to this aspect of who I am.

If you had asked me that a few months ago, I would have said I was a plain vanilla with a willingness to have mutual playful fantasies with a partner. I am very dominant/self-controlled in the rest of my life, I was surprised/shocked when I discovered/developed a submissive sexually charged reaction.

My reactions to that term may change over time, but so far in the threads that I have read through, "subbie" was being used in a kind and lighthearted teasing way and not meant in a mean manner. I don't count trolls, because, well there just isn't the time to waste on them.

There are some aspects of BDSM that I think may never be part of what I would desire in play/scene. I am still trying to wrap my brains around it all.

Just be patient with me for a bit. I never bite off more than I can chew, it just may take me a bit longer to clear my mouth out to speak.
:D

all he would do is say "yes Mistress". I call him much harsher names most of the time. "subbie" is a step up from "panty slut".

This is TOTALLY my fault.

I started a thread with "subbie" in the title. I was uninformed as to the standards of the culture. I was very kindly (not in a usual board-manner: "fuck off, ass") shown a website that un-fucks the nonbdsm-er about a lot of stuff.

I went from mild amusement to "Wow, these people are not only serious, it make SHIT-LOADS of sense to me"

Learned alot
hope I didn't tweak too many noses.
