Hey Ran! :)

Hey Everybody... if there are still any everybodys out there...

Mostly I been tryin' to get my crap in one sack. Trouble is that everytime I go to pick it up and put it in the bag, it keeps running through my fingers...

And that is it, really. Trying to figure out how to get involved with a life that interests me not in the slightest. And I find I don't want it to. I don't want any dreams or aspirations, anything that would cause me to hesitate at the moment and say, "Hey, not yet."

So I went off to try to see if I could fix that. I can't. So I guess I'll just sort of keep on keepin' on the way I've been goin'.

LOL - now, isn't that a fun read? Pretty much why I haven't been posting much. I doubt like hell that I'll ever make anybody's poster boy for how to deal with adversity.

And what is it that you have been up to - besides learning how to body paint with denum, that is... :D

There is a marked difference between "can't" and "don't want to". The first coveys inability, the second obstinacy.
In the first case you don't see any light at the end of the tunnel, in the second one you do but you are stubbornly shutting your eyes and refusing to embrace it.

What was that about body paint?

LOL - I like the Emoticon...

Then I suppose one could say, "With assholes like you, who needs friends?" ;)

Seriously, it would be good if all that I met were such "assholes"...

Big storm rolling in here this morning...

Hey there Little Bit!! :)

That was quite the deal down there - you and Mav would have been more icing on what was already a pretty dandy cake. Maybe next year...

We all cloudy and muggy down here as well. In that respect I am glad I got home before the weather sets in...

Gypsy Song Man
Jerry Jeff Walker

I'm a gypsy song man yes sir; you'd like to hear a song
I'll pick it for you now. I'll play it all night long.
If the blues is all you see, this song is what you need.
Gypsy song man, passin' by...

My whole life is a song and I'll share it with you now
Pickin' and a singin', we'll get by some how.
A dime would help me please, but a smile is all I need
Gypsy song man, passin' by...

Kids come runnin' as I pass, they all want to see
They say, "Hey there Gypsy Song man, play a song for me!"
Their eyes glued on my strings, dancing while I sing
Gypsy song man, passin' by...

I've got a stage on every corner, a hall on every street
My hat is my coin box; this song is what you need.
It's just a swap in time, this song if for your dime
Gypsy song man, passin' by...

So as I leave you now please remember me this time
I'm the man that sang his songs for your nickels and your dimes.
Today you saw me play, as I stopped along the way
Gypsy song man, passin' by...

This song represents a one time dream/aspiration of mine (and Anne's) - a traveling minstrel, singing songs of the people and places he has seen, roaming from town to town, state to state, maybe even from country to country. However, that is not an old man's dream, or, at least, the old fart needs to go into training for that kind of activity before setting out.

It occurred to me as I crossed the line into Oklahoma yesterday that I have been to more towns, and seen more of Missouri than I have of my, now, home state. Now isn't that a strange set of circumstances?

For those of you who don't know, I have just returned from an Americana Music Festival that was held at a small winery in what I guess could be termed South Eastern Missouri - perhaps central South Eastern. It was a dandy event. I got to meet a couple of my guitar heros, made a handful of new friends, and found out fairly well where I fit on the Guitarist Food chain - I have some wood shedding to do. That is a fact. There is a bonus connected with it, however - I've been looking for something to pry me away from that silly damned car game. The need to hit the books, so to speak, will do the trick.

I spent a great deal of the time I was there jamming with the other attendees. Many of the guys were my age or older. Only one guy was what I would term a "kid". He was there with his girl friend - he proposed to her on Friday night - it was announced on the stage Saturday night. On Sunday, we all chipped in and bought him a private lesson with Russ Barenburg. That was cool.

A young lady (all 5' 20" of her), Coleen Hiene, who is the honcho of the Folk School of St. Louis was there with her significant other and her fiddle. Her band played on Friday night and they were quite good. I was chatting with her on Sunday when the producer of the event (Bill Startz) came up and asked her to sit in and play a song or two with the "All Star Jam" that concluded the event, she freaked. I thought she was gonna have a stroke or some sort of conniption - the idea of being on the stage with heavy hitters like David Grier and the Chapman Brothers was a mind boggler for her. She cowboyed up though, and did an admirable job - got herself a standing ovation too. It was fun to be a part of that.

There weren't really that many people there, at the most, I think, around 80 or so. It became quite intimate, almost like family - there were many farewell hugs and handshakes that were attended with the words, "See you next year."

So I got me a year to try to get my chops up - I wouldn't want to come off as a slacker to my new friends.

All in all, I had a great time. It was good to share it with El and Gee, and I think once I get back on my feed, I will be searching around for another festival to attend - start working on becoming a Gypsy Song Man in earnest...

I have some pictures to share, once I get 'em off the camera...

Well Well Well Look at what the cat dragged in.

It seems you guys just need for me to go to class one day and you all start showing up and partying while I'm gone......Blooze is Waxing Philosophical, Bems is covered in icing, and ran is running around in body paint.

When am I going to get to join in on all the fun? :(

Here's a video that was shot on Sunday. The song is Angeline the Baker

http://johnhartford.org/Videos/PeacefulBend2008/OutdoorJam1-640.wmv

This may take a bit to buffer up - it's 46 meg...

You can get a feel for the whole weekend from this video, or at least I can... but then I was there.

:D $

Jeez, it did take ages to load but it was worth the wait :)
What a lovely spot, Macx! And it was wonderful seeing you outdoors playing.
I guess it's not easy to coordinate with people that you have never played before with, but you all did a great job :rose:

Ah, good morning Rania! :rose::kiss:

We are having dumb weather here and it is giving me fits this morning. And besides that, it seems to have wounded the hard drive on my main computer the other night. I fear I may have lost all my pictures, all my pictures of Anne... I am starting to have a real "Dolt" feeling concerning backups and such.

The big ole building in that video is their wine cellar - the shows were held in there. Outside was mostly little groups like that jamming and stuff.

The only pictures that I have right now are ones that were taken by El and sent to me via the Little bit...

Hey Sweetie THANKS for sharing the video with all of us!!!!:kiss:

I just LOVED IT.....I miss hearing you play
Good morning Little Bit :rose::kiss:

One of the major things I came away with is the need to hit the wood shed... specially concerning that genre. Finger picking just doesn't cut it in that environment.

The young lady on my right, and the skrawny kid across from me are the kids that got engaged over the weekend. The kid had just returned from his lesson with Russ Barenburg and we were all harassing him to show us a lick he had learned... that is the laughing and stuff you hear at the start.

Let me know if you can't recover the pictures. I have some pics of Anne that you sent me or posted on the thread. I will be happy to send what I have.

But I hope you can either get it working or find someone to recover the data for you.

:(

Good morning Mav! :)

I appreciate that! I sure wish I would have moved them to the external drive...

Ah well, procrastination and hind sight...
