The 3D Art Lover's Thread

Here is my idea for the Art Challenge VII: Space. I think it's funny. As always, Your Mileage May Vary. While there is technically adult oriented content, I don't consider it erotic enough to qualify as a legitimate challenge entry.

OMG, this is too funny!! I like your idea :D

And wonderful thread here. I've never tried 3D art. Are any of the software free.....i'm a poor college student can't afford to buy one *sigh*.

I mentioned some links in an earlier post. It really depends on how deep you want to get into it. There are some basic terms that it's helpful to know before digging in. Renderosity, and DAZ 3D are the best places to go, both for info and models. DAZ has created DAZ Studio, which is free and they also include some free content with it. All together a fairly beefy download, so if you have dial-up, prepare for a wait.

If you like that, and want to explore creating your own models, there are two free options: Wings 3D, which I like, and Blender. Blender can do more, but is more complicated.

I'm just a hobbyist but if you have any questions just drop me a PM and I'll do my best to help you.

Here's my latest, the same elven woman, Hyandai, if any of you are readers of Feldare Tales. She was trying to have a soothing bath in a small lake when something disturbed the placidity of the scene. Luckily, the young woman has quick reflexes and knows to keep a weapon handy.

That looks good. What are you using to render?

apologies

Sorry it took me so long to reply - I've been changing over computers. It's rendered with Poser 6 (no post work). I probably spend twice as long on Poser renders than I should as I tweak everything from within the program, rather than allowing the things done easier in photoshop to be done in photoshop.

The water is just one of the high-poly primitives, stretched to 1000% size with a water texture applied. Ruins of Alecto set is used for the sunken ruins, and the model is a custom morphed Stephanie Petite. If I can ever figure out volumetric lighting, I'll be adding that in a future attempt.

I've got the scene saved for reuse. One nice thing about the new machine is a 250gig hard drive, so I'm not worried about running out of room for a while.

Ah yes, Poser.... Or should I say Porner... :) Helping 1000's of people every year create consistently bad part 'Art' most of which involves nude woman and or elves. Take that last image Disturbed in the bath...
Where does one start.
No ripples either around her or the rocks. And what with the shoulder joint? not to mention the blank look on her face. If there is something in the water with her bad enough she has a knife (least I think that is what it is) you'd think she'd not look as bored....

and before you all start attacking me for not know what I am talking about. I do.
I haven been using a real 3d Program called Lightwave. I say real, because I don't consider Poser and Bryce to be real. I am also no used to pulling punches when it comes to 3d art.

and just so don't think I am blowing smoke. I have attached an image
of a Star Wars Astrodroid (Sorry no tits in this shot)

Well, aren't we feeling L33t this morning?

* shrug *

Have a problem with naked elves? Happen to like them, myself, hence writing about them and rendering them, rather than Star Trek and Star Wars. I find elf girls more stimulating than astromech droids, just a personal thing.

I'm sure you can do it, but I note a lack of water or anything even resembling a human (titless or not) in your portfolio (except a very tiny woman - hard to make out detail). Please to show me how its done before insisting I lay out several hundred dollars on high-end renderware. Lets see - $900 for Lightwave or $150 for Poser - sorry, kids gotta eat. So, I suppose it's $750 more 'real' than Poser - I can live with that.

Frankly, the one organic I see with a decent view looks pretty cartoonish, too, the panther head. While it does look like the render engine on Lightwave is more capable than that of Poser, I'll stick to naked elves, thanks - even if there are no ripples around her in the water.

Maybe I am 'L33t' but as with all art everyone likes what they like :)
No I don't have any characters in my portfolio becuase organic forms are some of the hardest to create. Which why poser is so popular.
Anyway, you don't have to spend a lot of cash for a good 3D modelling system.

Blender is one of the new raisng stars on the 3D front and it's free.

There is also http://www.renderotica.com/ if you didn't know if it :p

Hopefully this will remain civil. Everyone has their own idea of what makes art, and likewise, each has their own preferences on what render app they use. I think the skill of the user matters more than the app. Were I to use Lightwave, my results would likely look crappy in comparison to someone with more experience. I believe Poser and Bryce are valid tools, and capable of producing quality work in the right hands. For people that only do this as a hobby, they are ideal. If my job required an app with more bells and whistles, I'd go for a more high end program to meet my needs, such as Maya, Cinema 4D, Lightwave, etc.

Nice job on R2D2. I know I couldn't achieve that level of realism with my current abilities.

As far as the proliferation of "Poser porn" ... well, the fact that it's so much cheaper than the high end apps and is therefore more available and easier to use probably has something to do with it. On sites such as Renderosity, such images aren't really appropriate and really should have their own 'adult only' section. But here, and other sites that are meant for the 18+ crowd, I don't see a problem.

Blender rocks, though I haven't used it much. I have trouble with the interface. I suppose if I had started out on it, I'd understand it a lot better. I'm a Wings 3D man, myself. :)

:) This art form is strangely compelling and yet erotic at the same time. But as an artist I have always thought if I wanted a pic to look like a fucking photograph, I would get a camera. Good work though all the same, loved looking at your examples. :)

fantastic stuff! Here are a few of mine...

Typo Fu Master, great stuff! I especially enjoy your product spoofs ;-).

Personally, I think in the not too far distant future, this art form will completely replace traditional forms of porography--especially if governments continue to increase their already rediculous record-keeping requirements and the realism and workflow of the tools continue to improve at the same rate.

Poser is such a cool toy... especially for horny computer geeks like myself lol.

You can find some work I've done in my sig.... however, beware that it is VERY EXTREME. View at your own risk...

TheGreatRaja et al,

If you are concerned about getting the most realistic look in Poser, simply export to a different renderer. There are plugins that allow you to seamlessly integrate poser into (just about) any of the industry leading renderers.

Personally, I am happy with the level of realness I get in Poser's firefly renderer (for my purposes). 3Dsmax is my tool of choice for modeling though.

Cool stuff, Dexfantasy. I really like the reflections of the tiles in your image. I don't mind extreme images, though the subject matter in your pictures is not to my taste.

I disagree that this medium will replace photography and drawing but I agree that we will start seeing a lot more of it. It's already happening. There have been so many new movies done with CG animation that I'm falling behind in collecting them. There's even a porn movie that looks to be very well done, and it's even advertised here on Lit: The Princess Has Come Of Age. I want it! :D

Thanks for contributing.

It will never replace traditional media – I agree; however, why would you want to put up with the overhead and paychecks of real models in the future when this sort of medium reaches a point where you cannot distinguish a difference between it and the real thing? I think this will happen eventually.

Wow... The Princess Has Come of Age does look interesting!

Just thought I'd pop a WIP of mine in. The girls themselves are complete, but I'm not happy with the discarded clothing (I could leave it out, but I thought it would add something to the scene), maybe I'll try a few things with dynamic clothing to see if I can get it to look more natural. Oh, and it was done entirely in Poser 6, no postwork, both girls are Vicky 3, hair is by Kozaburo on the top grl, & HMann's Goddess Hair on the bottom one.

Nice job. With regards to the clothing, I wouldn't have even known that's what it was if you hadn't said something. The shoes are fine, but I agree that you might want to remove the clothes from the scene altogether until you come up with something better.

Yeah, I decided to ditch the clothes, & I figured the shoes would look a bit odd without any other clothes so they went too. To be honest it does look better now , & as you can see here I've moved the camera slightly to get the girls more centred. Of course I saved it with the same name as the first one, so anyone looking in my last post will wonder what clothes we're talking about

There are tons of free models available. Bear in mind that you generally get what you pay for, but there are a few top quality freebies out there if you look around.

Renderosity has an extensive freebie section.

DAZ has made their Victoria 3, Michael 3, and Aiko 3 models available for free. Not sure if Aiko was a limited time offer or not. Naturally the additional morph packages and clothes/accessories still cost money, but it's still possible to find freebie stuff for them.

I haven't tried mixing up real pics with CG except for my magazine cover spoof ... I'm just not good enough with getting the lighting right. I'd love to see what you come up with.

I suck at drawing, and Poser and Bryce have allowed me to realize a lot of images that I'd never be able to recreate otherwise. Animation sounds cool, and maybe one of these days I'll get into it more, but right now I mainly play around with still images.

A few more:

I liked the idea behind "Jigsaw puzzle" but the image I rendered for it looks too dark.

I absolutely adore the two middle attached images! Very clever and fun to look at! I like your sense of humor.

Can I play, too? :)

These are part of an illustrated story I just submitted for posting.
Seeing this thread, I thought I'd show them.

And here are a few from a story that I have already posted:
http://www.literotica.com/s/driven-to-distraction-3

The first ones I posted are better. They are older images. I'm starting to get more control of the rendering process and learning how to set the lights for the effect I like.

Gettin' better, little by little. :)
