The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Good morning everyone, wherever you may be

It has become clear to me, during my still brief tenure in this group, that coffee is very important to many ‘groupies.’ Don’t ask me how I’ve managed to work this out, let’s just say that I’ve drilled down through the posted words to decipher the hidden subtext beneath!

Allow me, therefore, to give you a little insight into buying coffee in France.

The French for ‘a coffee’ is ‘un café’ but, if you ask for this you will get a small black coffee, almost espresso size, served in a glorified egg cup. Bear in mind that there is no takeaway coffee culture in France, other than in Paris or one of the major cities, so you sit in a bar to drink it or stand at the counter to do as it’s cheaper if you drink it this way.

If you want milk with your coffee you immediately identify yourself as a foreigner. You can have milk but you have to ask for it when you order and what you get is milk milk! Stuff that comes from a cow. Don’t even think of asking for oat milk, soya milk, almond milk or anything that is not milk from a cow because you will probably get deported!

If you don’t want sugar…tough. You will almost always be given a packet of two sugar lumps. Many French people dunk the sugar lump on the hot coffee for a few seconds then eat it like a sweet!!

You can get a (slightly) larger coffee, ‘un café allongé,’ which is the original espresso in a larger cup but with added hot water. The previous comments about milk still apply here.

You can now get ‘un café crème’ (espresso with hot milk) or a cappuccino (espresso with foamed milk) but these are still small drinks by UK or US standards. If you want a 20oz coffee, emigrate.

This public information post was NOT brought to you by the Tourist Board of France!

Have a nice day
There is a small subset of us here who don't drink coffee. But, yes! The majority do! ☕☕☕

Which is why I don't like these online systems. Write a function that meets a specific criteria. Fine, but doesn't like pi()/5, or two spaces in the answer somewhere. Or does it not like the way you factored a fraction.

An on paper answer could show the work, answer, and allow the instructor to ignore extra spaces, or if you divide pi by 5, or leave as a fraction.

Leaves a lot to be desired. Almost as fussy as doing math in C...
What i believe the instructors doing is trying to reinforce their teaching. I showed you this way. Their may be other ways of getting the same answer but. I expect you to use the method I taught you to show that you understand it and can apply it. Usually the instructor teaches a certain method because she wants to build or expand on that method in the future. If you don't follow that method and use it or comprehend it. In the future when she refers to it or says to use it in the future you will be lost. IMO. ( stole from @likes2watchU )...lol

Morning everyone, I don't know how it happened but I lost a day somewhere this week. In my head it's Thursday. All my memes were Thursday. Going out on my 12 miles 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️. Everyone enjoy your day.

Good morning OM and Tweedle. I am sure others from Europe are already in the day.

From world travelers I know, France and Italy make the best coffee! The UK makes the best tea. And the USA has some of worst of both, tea and coffee that is.
