We could do 11 minutes for November! Would that work for everyone?

Gordon by Edith Templeton is the October 2010 BOTM.

The September 2010 BOTM is Nine and a Half Weeks: A Memoir of a Love Affair by Elizabeth McNeill

I vote for 11 Minutes for October BOTM.

I can get it easy :)

Did you like the book overall or not?

I'm between liking and not. It was a strange book. It felt like a surreal thing.

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

Not really because the girl doesn't take any responsibility for herself. She just sort of "falls" in accidentally then is "addicted", I find that hard to relate to. I notice a lot of BDSM books have female characters like that. I don't understand it.

The male top seems to be playing at it. Although he takes total control over her, he doesn't work on her smoking yet, does make her steal. I don't get that either.

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

They didn't really do "it" for me. Sitting here right now I can't think of a single sex scene in the book. Surely there was one or more?

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

At times. I enjoyed the submission a bit. I rarely wanted to pick the book up but when I did I found it easy to read. It was a fast read too.

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

Maybe.

What did you like best about this selection?

For me, I liked some of the delight in the submission. The matter of fact way the top went about things, not yelling usually was hot at times.

What did you like the least?

I didn't like the robberies. I didn't like the idea of doing NOTHING at night, not using your hands and such. I hated the idea of being completely irresponsible for yourself.

How would you have changed the story?

I wouldn't have. Anyone who can write a book and get published has done better that I have. Congrats to the author.

I enjoyed the read. I'm not sure sure I liked it. I know that doesn't seem to make sense.

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

Not really. As FF said, she didn't make a consious decision she fell into it. From my view one needs to be responsible, they both do. At least that is the only way it works for me. In reading and in R/L

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

No there did seem to be any real "fire" in them. They were just sort of there...

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

Well it had something, I said, I enjoyed it.

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

I don't think so

What did you like best about this selection?

A couple of times I could relate to the delight in submission. How that is a genuine turn on. How it can be somewhat addicting.
But not to the extent portrayed in the story.

What did you like the least?

I dislike humiliation. That doesn't float my boat. And the exhibition of control by having her doing illegal things is just so wrong. This goes back to her not being responsible for herself before entering in to such a relationship.

How would you have changed the story?

I wouldn't. She told a story that has a couple of good things in it.

Good to know we are in agreement on this book, mostly.

Have you seen the movie? I hear it's different than the novel and not in a good way?

Hi {{{{{FF}}}}}

Yes mostly. :)

I haven't seen it. I do have it in my netflix queue. I will let you know what I think of the movie when I do see it.

Hope you are having a great October. We are having wonderful autumn weather in my neck of the woods. Sunny, in the high 60s to low 70s. And that is forecast for the rest of the week.

The weather has turned more chill. I'm enjoying it!

:)

Have a GREAT Wednesday!

Happy Hump Day {{{{{FF}}}}}

It is turning into a marvelous one, thank you. Hope yours does too. :)

Mine was like a roller coaster only less fun. LOL. I survived to play another day though.

I enjoyed this read a lot.

I do not know what is real or not, the ending was not positive with the girl having a mental breakdown.

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?
Sure.

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?
Yes

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?
Yes, I like the style.

What did you like best about this selection?
I like the whole story. The best part I suppose would be the escalation of what he does to her and her mental resistance: for example the part where he makes her crawl on the floor and she does not want to do it. I also liked the part where he packed up all her stuff and threatened to send her home in a cab.

What did you like the least?
The end, the mental breakdown.

How would you have changed the story?
I would not change anything, it is a story. A fairy tale would have been nice, no breakdown they live happily ever after...but that would not be nine and a half weeks.

Glad you enjoyed 9 and 1/2 weeks Sweepthefloor!

:rose:

I have to say, being passive while being bathed, for instance, would be very difficult for me to do.

I forgot about that part! I loved it. I imagine all the pretty soap bottles.
I think that letting anyone do anything for me takes a lot of "let go" on my part so I liked the whole idea of her just "falling into" it without thinking.
