The box office

Finally saw X-men: First Class today. The best of all the X-men movies, I think. Well balanced among all the characters unlike my big complaint with the first three X-films.

I loved James McAvvoy's performance as Prof. X and the guy that played Magneeto was X-cellent (needless pun:D) too.

I don't know that I'd call it the best of them all, but it was good. Except for Emma Frost being older in First Class than she was in the trilogy, and Havoc being apparently older than Cyclops. Little things like that bugged me and my buddy when we went to see it.

The performances by Prof. X and Magneto were great, and the little cameos they had were fun too.

Yeah those bothered me too...but I took in stride, since I knew there was no way they could have the first class from the comics in the movie. As for Emma, they never said her name, in Wolverine and if I were to pick one I'd pick this one in First Class more the classic representation of the White Queen than the teenaged prisoner.

Havoc is a bigger problem, but I was psyched that they put him in and gave him an even larger part and a speaking part than they gave Collossus.

What really bothered me was the girl named Angel, who the hell was she?

*chuckle* I had no clue either. According to my buddy, she's Angel Salvadore. I didn't really care for her in the movie, but there's usually one like that for everyone.

I think the highlight of the movie is how it explains why Magneeto was the way we know him to be in the trilogy.

I like that he's the reason Xavier's paralyzed. Also, the way he kills Shaw. (Though...isn't Shaw a major villain far later in the comics?)

Its fairly obvious the movies' chronology and the comics' chronology aren't a one to one correlation.

And that reminds Shaw and Emma were the only actual members of the Hellfire club in the movie, who were the cyclone guy and the nightcrawler ripoff?

He was apparently Riptide. The red guy is Azazel, Nightcrawler's daddy.

Finally saw Green Lantern today. Reynolds wasn't the actor I'd have picked for the character of Hal Jordan, but his portrayal of the character wasn't a detriment to the movie. It wasn't eye-opening like with Downey Jr. as Tony Stark or Ledger as the Joker but serviceable and gave a believable sense of humor (Reynolds's strength).

What was more interesting is the anticipation of the sequel-I'm assuming it'll be about Sinestro and the Sinestro Corps war.

Went to a midnight showing of Captain America last night. Very well done, Chris Evans was solid as Rogers. Hugo Weaving as Red Skull was pretty much perfect casting I think. The rest of the supporting cast was solid, with a special shout out to Dominic Cooper as a young Howard Stark.

I'm not sure how well it will hold up the next time I see it, but there was much awesome in this movie.

Oh, and if you see it wait till after the credits, there's a teaser trailer for the Avengers movie that's very sweet.

 Ooooh I am so angry you saw it before me Rider. If I hadn't had to work today...

Seriously it makes me want to see it tomorrow more than ever. Thanks, now I'll never get to sleep, I'll suffer excited anticipitory insomnia all night tonight.

Well, anything to help your insomnia Veroe :D Seriously though, I'm sure you'll have a blast. The romance isn't beat you over the head with it, the characters aren't all totally three dimensional but I've no complaints. Except maybe Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan, just not salty enough IMO, but hardly a weakness. That's more the comic nerd in me.

Well I'm back from seeing it today, and I pretty much have to repeat all the things Rider said. Evans was solid as Cap, but then I was pretty sure he could be from what I saw of him in Cellular. Weaving did what Weaving always does take small somewhat one dimensional characters and makes it appear like there's a world of depth to them, The howling commandos were ok, Props to Toby Jones who played Bucky. The real surprises are how well the actors made the small parts of Peggy Carter, Colonel Phillips, Howard Stark, and Abraham Erskine-these were the ones that gave life to the movie beyond just the stars like Evans and Weaving.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Veroe. I saw it again with the rest of my family today, and couldn't help but notice that Alan Silverstri's score was influenced pretty heavily by the Dark Knight theme by Hans Zimmer. Not that I'm complaining, I think Zimmer is a musical genius.

Also they spend much of the movie downplaying just how attractive Haley Atwell is, but I suppose it made that scene with her in that red dress all the more impactful.

Also it spoke alot about the character I think, to be accepted in the male dominated business of being in the army or allied war effort in this case she'd naturally downplay just how hot she was in her everyday attire and makeup.
