The China Pearl Inn part 7

!!! I don't even know where to begin!? I.. Uggg... We need to sit you down and have a talk.

Good luck Robyn!

Sharing, you were at least a friendly voice in a pit of empty bottles that kept me going!

SI, I don't believe I get sea-sick, so I should be good :p

I am glad you survived the situation. :)

Good thanks. I'm getting air conditioning in my office! :D That will be nice. Its been bout 34 degrees C most days this last week.

Hurray. I can't imagine not having ac in the office. Of course, once we got it in the classrooms, I worked later on hot days because I didn't have it at home. LOL Will you find yourself sticking around to stay cool?

Na I probably wont use it much. going in and out of air con a lot makes people get sick and I'm in and out of my office all the time.

I actually don't mind the heat as long as I have a fan going. Its the humidity that I don't like so I'll probably not have it set to cool the office much just dehumidify. When it gets really hot I can always just jump on my scooter and go a for a cruise.

I did that this afternoon. Went right round the whole island. Visited a couple of customers along the way. Got a bit more sunburn lol.

I don't think it is the going in and out, I think it is the way it moves the air around which means it moves the germs around. I tried not to use the ac or heater until it was super necessary, because kids carry a ton of germs and once I got the air moving it seemed kids got sicker faster. I, apparently, was lucky to have a good immune system. I got colds twice a year when we went on break and the adrenalin slowed down, but some teachers I know spend half the year sick with something.

I don't get colds any more since I stay away from people. ;)

Sorry, RT, nothing worse than a person you care about in pain and you can't do anything to help. One inch at a time and slowly you both move forward. Not easy, not quickly, but eventually. Hugs to both of you.

Hmm, from alcohol to drugs. Not sure if we are making progress here.

Thank you so much kind lady. For me there are a few problems one that I know the military only loves you till they break you, then they can't remember your name or where they put your paperwork. And the fact that I can help when I get my hands on the guy more that I can from here. And lastly i couldnt begin to feel what he feels ive come close but never completely crippled in any of my limbs.

Any good soldier will tell you that they can't explain what being a soldier is like. It's not that civilians are dumb or that there is a real language barrier. It's that some things can only be truly explained by experience.
For example I can tell you what it is like for me to teach. I love watching the lights come on in their eyes when they work to get something and they finally understand it. But I can't tell you what it is like to be a teacher.

Amen Raven! Having been a teacher before joining the service there are some things that just need to be experienced to understand. The look as you say in your student’s eyes when they get it, the brotherhood that develops under the pressure of service. I think to a degree that both teaching and a service career is a vocation, a calling.

Well that is my point of view. Lord knows it’s no because of the pay I either case.

Amen brother. You keep talking like that and I'm gonna have to pass a collection plate.

This place tickles me in all the most delightful places. Thanks for the giggles everyone.

I'm off to see Black Panther. And with any luck, I MIGHT get a fingerbang in the movie theatre. *fingers crossed*

See you all later

Someone make sure Pinky Pet doesn't hurt himself... or anyone else. Put away all sharp objects, left over bottles, make sure he's wearing a helmet and mitties. In fact, just tie him up til I get back. I'll make sure he's well taken care of when I get home.

I don't fully understand all of this post, but sounds fun...

So this is what morning looks like? HUH? Who knew?

Went to bed early and now I am up early. How will I fill in all these daylight hours?

I agree that both the military and teaching are a vocation, although there are many people that find their way into both fields that would probably be happier doing something else. But for those that love what they do, it is a calling. The best part of teaching is the light bulb that goes on. A child saying, "Ohhh, now I get it." The worst part is the jumping through hoops to satisfy some higher up that thinks they have all the knowledge of the classroom even though they were only there for a couple of years or not at all. But they know best. But yeah, the pay doesn't go as far as one would hope. I didn't think I would ever be able to retire, but I actually bring home more money each month than I did when I was working. It is amazing how much you save by not putting money into a retirement account. LOL

My imagination gives me a pretty good idea of life in the army based on things I have heard or read, but I don't really KNOW what it is like. I am very sure that I don't need that experience. I hate that anyone has all that in their head. I am glad that there are people like you guys that help those that need someone that CAN understand.

The daylight... it burns.

Sadly I work Tuesday to Saturday. .. so I got wait a bit longer till my weekend.

LS hope you enjoy black panther and what may cI'm with it

I'll never pretend to know what military life is like. Fun to RP from time to time. But I'll never fully understand valor impersonation. Something seems wrong to me about that. Might be how I was rasied. Shrug.

As for teaching, that does sound like a wonderful moment. I still remember the teachers that seem to give that little extra. They left a mark even 20 plus years later.

One of my favorite things was students coming back to say hi. It was always rewarding when some of the most difficult students would come back to tell me that they wanted to say they learned something from me that helped them in middle school. One day, I was in the parking lot when a young man stopped me to say hi and thank me for being his teacher. He was in his late teens or early twenties with a mustache and I just couldn't put a name to his face. But the kids always assume you know who they are and I didn't want to ask. So we chatted for a while and he told me about his baby and upcoming marriage. He had opened a small shop for fixing appliances. We must have talked for about twenty minutes and I still had no idea of who he was. So I came up with an idea. I asked for a business card, figuring it would have his name on it, and told him I would show it to teachers so they could come if they needed work done. He gave me the card, but HIS name wasn't on it. So I suggested he write it on the back of the card for the other teachers. Once he did, I looked at it. Boy was I shocked. I wasn't his teacher. He had been in the class next door. LOL But he remembered me as having more of an influence on him. It was very flattering although hilarious. I didn't tell him, I figured he should keep the good memories the way he had them. I still see a few students from my last school when I go back to California. What cracks me up is that after three years of being retired, I still dream about kids and teaching. LOL

Wow RT I know you think you don't have a way with words but you really do man... you nailed that in three lines... I don't know how many times I've tried to explain this to someone asking me awkward questions and just not been able to find the right words.

Somethings just can't be conveyed in words eh, you can describe the experience but unless someone has done something similar to put it in context they will never actually understand what you are telling them. Their idea of what you are describing will fall short of the reality.

O I agree, we can never explain what being a soldier is like and I know CG says the same about the Navy. The feeling of belonging is something we experience and there is a bond. Robyn and I have only know each other a few months but we’re closer than sisters.

On another point I have completed my theory for my badges. Robyn completed her engineering so now it’s back to OTS. Tomorrow we sit in on military planning
