Here’s what I learned, the good and the ugly.

Toe-Up construction - I’ll rate this a 2/10 on the learning scale, the Kitchener stitch hates to see me coming 🤪

Estonian braid - solid 6/10, bitchy and prissy for an uneven edge 🙄 could that be knitters-error? Maybe. I’m not taking the fall for her thoughhhhh

M1L/M1R - 5/10, tricky girl, ok ok.

M1LP/M1RP - 8/10 fuck off

Italian bind off - 4/10, I might have a thing for tricky bind offs 🥰

I started this project way back in August (the 17th, I think) and abandoned the first draft. November 10th, I selected a less busy yarn that was more suited to the patterns stone-cold resistance towards me and decided to give it another go, setting my unofficial deadline for Christmas.

I worked on this project in the morning, in my bed, while scrolling Lit and watching TikToks. I worked on them late at night, watching my silly shows. I worked on them when I was angry, lonely, needy. I worked on them when I was happy, proud, content. I worked on them while sick and aroused.

I kept a journal to track my rows, my mistakes, my wins and my random doodles. I used a pencil, a pen, and a highlighter when I lost my other writing utensils.

Maybe I put too much of myself into whatever it is I’m focused on, especially considering they don’t fit me. It’s a bit too cliché and symbolic 🙃

Maybe one day they will.

Oh, I love getting yarn as a gift!

You'll do great with it. I understand doing a practice run beforehand, though. I find that knitting with chunky yarn is easier (for me) than with standard-sized yarn. Good luck, my friend! I hope you enjoy your hat when you get it done. :)
I hope it’ll be easy for me as well. I did a little tester with the same chunky yarn I crocheted a blanket with years ago. The hat seems to come together quite fast because the yarn is chunky and the needles are huge. It feels very different than what I’m used to, though. I’m finding it difficult to gauge how tight I should make the stitches as I go.

I’m happy I decided to do this test run. The yarn came with a label that says that the yarn can only take one “undoing”, so after you knit the same section of the yarn twice, you’re donezo if it’s not correct.

It’s very soft and fluffy, so it doesn’t handle re-knitting well. Hence the test run. Yikes.

Congrats on finishing your project! Your socks look absolutely divine, you’re such a talented knitter! I’m sorry they don’t fit you, though.

I'm so sorry they don't fit you, but they look great! I'm in awe of your knitting prowess!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

I got a Hobby Lobby gift card for Christmas and immediately took my ass over there the next day to get some supplies for Valentine's Day and Easter. (I know, Hobby Lobby sucks, but their I Love This Yarn is better, in my opinion, than other acrylics I've tried at that price point.) Got some yarn and some Aida fabric for cross-stitch. :)

These are really pretty colors! What are you planning to make?

These are really pretty colors! What are you planning to make?

Thank you!

The red and the pinks are for Valentine's Day heart garlands and heart stuffies and such.

The pastel colors and the white...let me see if I can find a good example pic of what I'd like to do.

Do y'all have conversation hearts there? These things? Pastel-colored heart candies with words printed on them?

Ok, so what I want to do is make a granny square heart cardigan like the one below, in the pastel conversation heart colors.

Granny Square Heart Cardigan.jpg

Whether or not I can pull this off is questionable. (Mine will not look exactly like that because of the colors and the fact that I don't want to put buttons on it, lol.) But if I can, that's what I'm going for.

Wow that’s a really sweet idea, pun intended! (I never come up with puns so let me have this one, okay 😂)

We don’t have conversation hearts, but I’ve seen the often enough in movies, TV and elsewhere that I know what they are. Are you planning to add the text as well?

I'm leaving off the text, simply because I'm not sure the best way to do it. I can embroider a little, but my skills are not great. So I'm hoping people will be able to tell what they're supposed to be without the words, lol.

I bet just referencing the colors in heart shapes is enough to clue people in.

A friend of mine crocheted this granny square cardigan and it looks really pretty. I’m sort of considering maybe making one for myself at some point in the future as well.

So I finished a blanket. It's not the first one I've ever started, but the first one I've ever finished. I had intended to put it in my shop, but I can't now. I love him too much.

He's going on the back of my couch, on display. (I rarely use the living room, and even when I do sit in there, it's not on the couch, so he won't get dirty or messed up.)

It's been such a long, hard year, and I managed to finish one thing that turned out like I wanted it to before the year is out. I'm crying over how much I love this stupid blanket.

I'll post pics later. He needs blocking before I introduce him to y'all, and I'm tired tonight. But he's a twelve-pointed star blanket, in colors reminiscent of a (really hot) supernova.

I love him too much to sell him. He's brought me so much joy, for reasons I can't even explain. But I'll use his pics as an example of something I can be commissioned for. Maybe someone else will want one like him in different colors, and I can sell that.

I’m actually relieved to not be alone in this - I’m about 50% completed on a sock I need to get done before New Year’s Day is over 🫣

I just have to.

Yay about the blanket being done, I can’t wait to see photos!!

Congrats! That’s a really big milestone and I’m looking forward to seeing the pics!

My granny square blanket is still very much a work in progress… I got so fed up with doing the squares. Then I thought I’d start attaching at least some of the squares but my front/back loop identification skills - not so good. So the seam was weird and I wasn’t happy about it so I just decided to keep on working on the squares instead…except that I’m so fed up with the damn squares already. So it’s been on the back burner for quite a while now and I feel awful when someone asks me about how it’s going. 🤣

Speedy knitting!!! 🌹

I got inspired by these posts of getting something finished that I picked up the sock project that’s been on hold again for a while. I decided I’d try to finish it by J’s birthday at the end of January. It’s just his feet are so damn big and I’ve made the project way too difficult for myself by getting all whimsical…

Congrats on the finished product, Bunny!

Can you tell me what blocking means?

Years ago my mom gave me a purple and gold crochet blanket (LSU college) and said it needed blocking. It’s been in my closet for years.

Thank you!

Sure, I'll try to explain it so that it makes sense, lol.

Basically, blocking is what you do to make sure the piece holds its shape correctly. Like, for example, my new blanket is trying to curl on the ends a little, and I want it to lie flat.

So what you do is dampen the piece and use something to hold it in the right position until it dries. I got a blocking board with pins for Christmas, so I'm going to lay the blanket on the board and pin the edges down. (But you can also do it with heavy objects to hold it.) When the piece dries, it will (theoretically) hold its shape on its own.

Congrats! That’s a really big milestone and I’m looking forward to seeing the pics!

Thanks! It may be a bit because I cut my finger on a container of Greek yogurt earlier, and despite using a bandage, it still doesn't want to stop bleeding. It wouldn't matter so much if the blanket wasn't partially white. But I don't wanna get blood all over the white parts, so I'm going to wait a while before I touch it.

My granny square blanket is still very much a work in progress… I got so fed up with doing the squares.

Oh, yes, I totally understand. I've started three other blankets before this one that I didn't finish, and one was a granny square blanket. Needless to say, with my ADHD ass, that thing was doomed from the start.

Honestly, I'm about to start using the blog on my crafting website again, and one of the topics on my list is "Crafting With ADHD, Or Stop Trying To Make Blankets!" 🤣

Ok, so he still needs blocking, but it's probably not going to happen because I'm lazy, and he's already on the back of my couch.

Blankie!.jpg

Yes, this is the stupid blanket I cried over. He is beautiful to me. He's meant to represent a supernova. The purple in the center is supposed to be the black hole at the center of the supernova, and the two shades of blue and white are supposed to be the flames.

This is literally the only thing I've done this year that I haven't been disappointed with. I'm not just talking crafts, either. So yes, I cried over him last night and said, "Nobody will ever love him as much as I do," and decided to keep him.

The blanket looks great! You did such a good job!

I can totally relate to crying when you finished. That’ll probably happen to me as well when I finally finish my blanket one fine year well into the future. 😂

The heel is done and I’m working on the gusset which is this part of the sock.

and then it’s just foot length and toes.

I can do it… if I can stop getting so distracted 🙃
How did it go, did you finish?
It was a bourbon and feathers nite at the tying table.

That’s really cool!

My high school boyfriend used to tie flies and he let me try and make my own as well. Naturally I made just pretty looking, flamboyant ones that I pulled out of my head that didn’t even try to imitate any living thing a fish might want to nibble on. Unsurprisingly, they were utter garbage for actual fishing purposes, but it was still fun to make them.

I have about 15-20 more rounds for the foot and then the toes left to complete but I’m still counting it as a win.

I don’t think I mentioned that this is my first Summer Lee pattern from her book, The Surf Wax Socks. I’m flying through it as it’s just knits and purls, but great practice in construction nonetheless.

My yarn did something funny!! The tiniest green little dot is right on the heel -

I love when my knitting has little secrets and imperfections. Each experience is so individual and unique that way… which is probably why I’m such an anti-gift knitter 🙈

I’ll finish up this weekend and thennn it might be time for a trip to the local yarn store. I’m up for taking some photos and bringing y’all along if you’re interested! I love yarn almost more than the knitting sometimes 😋

Your knitting is so pretty and even 🤩

I’ve screwed up so many times with the socks that I’m now making that they look absolutely garbage. They’re worse than the first pair ever I made, which is saying something.

I hope one day I’ll feel confident enough with my knitting to try something a little more advanced, but for now just the basic knits and purls are wild enough for me, I think.

And yes, please do take us yarn shopping with you! It’ll be a safe way for me to indulge in some yarn goodness. I always want to buy everything when I go to a yarn store, even if I realistically know I won’t do anything with the yarn. The same goes to buttons. I just want to buy them allllll when I see the tubes of buttons, even if I have zero use for them.

Yes, like seela said, this is very cool! I know nothing about it, but it looks great. I apologize for overlooking your post earlier. I'm kind of a dumbass sometimes. Please keep sharing with us!

That's gorgeous! I wish I could knit on needles. But it's ok because you're doing a great job, and I just like admiring your work. :)

I wanna go yarn shopping with you, too!

Thank you - another night of fly tying. Trying out different materials and sizes. And yes, that is Lit open on my computer in the background.. lol. Multitasking at its finest.
