Taking a deep breath, Crystal finally responded to the man on the phone while she looked away from the TVs.
"How far away is this place?" Crystal asked.
"If you could drive, about a day. Maybe shorter if you go without stopping for more than just gas. You wouldn't be able to get into the town, anyway. From what I've heard, a special task force has been sent in to investigate. Nobody but those with really tight connections can get in, let alone investigate. Not even a mouse can get in. Besides, you're supposed to be recovering." the man answered. Once again, Crystal didn't respond. She simply let out a sigh.
"Fine. Try to find me some information on this Masked Circle and why they attacked that town specifically." Crystal said before she hung up the phone and threw it back into her bag. When she started walking again, her thoughts wandered towards questions on what the Masked Circle was and what they were after, along with who their leader was. At the same time, it reminded her of a time she wished to forget.
In an old garage, Crystal stood and watched as a black haired boy worked on fixing an old ATV. At that time, her brown hair was much longer than it was in the present day and she wore a strange silver gauntlet on her left arm. Standing next to her was a silver haired boy, but he let off a strange aura.
"So how did you even learn how to fix these things? I figured that everyone around here would be able to handle themselves in a fight and that's all." Crystal asked.
"I am impressed that a human with little combat experience even has a talent at all." the silver haired boy added, but Crystal kicked him in the leg afterward. The boy didn't seem bothered at all, as if her kick didn't even hurt him.
"Sorry about him. He can be a bit of an asshole." Crystal replied. The boy stopped what he was doing and turned to face Crystal and the silver haired boy. He was about the same age as Crystal with short black hair and green eyes. He didn't seem to mind the silver haired boy's rude words, though.
"My dad was a mechanic. He fixed cars and sold parts at his garage. I learned a lot from watching him." the boy replied. Without a moment of hesitation, Crystal asked her next question.
"So how did he die? Did he even survive the night it all started?" Crystal asked. The boy looked down at the floor to hide his face from her.
"I...I don't know. My mom and I ran off while he distracted any of the magical creatures who tried to attack us. I don't know if he's still alive out there somewhere or not, but...I have hope he's out there somewhere." the boy replied.
"Optimism like that is only going to get you killed faster. Come on, ----, let's go. We need to go ask around and find information." Crystal said, turning around and starting to walk away.
Lost in thought, Crystal wandered mindlessly until she stopped in front of a local garage and parts shop. She slowly looked up at a sign on the roof of the shop and realized where she was. When she did, another brief memory flashed through her mind.
"My name is Samual Baxter." she heard a quiet boy's voice ring through her head. When she looked up at the sign, it read "Baxter's Garage."
"Fate really is cruel." Crystal said to herself, deciding to go inside and take a look around.
