The Halloween 2024 Official Contest Support Thread!

Ditto on the kudos to the writers of the fine stories honored, and to many obviously deserving runners-up.

Even though I placed far out of the money (and would have directed the admins to donate it to a worthy cause of their choosing) I am gratified by the sweep process that occurred near the end. I submitted two stories, one entirely a joke while the other was sincere if light-weight, and I was puzzled that the stupid one had much higher vote-count and ratings. The sweep set things right in my own mind. I hope others who pay close attention to the score find some comfort in the sweep. I plan to pay less, next time, now that I trust the process better.

Really happy to have come in third place, I've been ill this week so that's a real boost! Thanks to everyone who left lovely comments. Congratulations to the other winners, and everyone else that joined in, I've read some amazing entries.

Makes me think I should write a part 2....

Gutted!!! This morning (uk) I was 4.96 with 28 votes and this evening I am 5.00 with 20 votes and obviously under the threshold to qualify. Never had a sweep like this before.

Congrats though to the winners and their deserved entries.
That’s rough! Taking ‘5.00th’ place instead of first.

Congratulations to the winners! And to all who entered I hope you got something out of it, I know I did :)

That was some sweep! I had 20 votes swept in total, taking me from 4.21 to 4.52!

That seems like a lot of votes swept?

Of course, after getting that red H it got another two 1 votes pushing it back down again.:ROFLMAO: It was really interesting seeing the votes swept, it wasn't just 1s or 1s and 5s like I've heard people say, there were quite a few 2s and probably some 3s and 4s too.

Congrats to the winners, and to all participants!

My story lost about 20 votes, and it pushed my score up by 0.1. It ended up at 4.61, so I’m pleased. Maybe someday I’ll break into the stratosphere where the 4.8 and 4.9 live!

Spellbound and Stupefied is now live!

Three college-aged witches attempt to summon Satan on the night of Halloween so they can rule the world by his side as his personal harem. They have everything they need as the “tome” says, what could go wrong, besides the fact they don’t have a functioning brain between them!

This story answers the age-old question: what if the Sanderson Sisters got knocked up by the Three Stooges and had their daughters? While I don’t expect this one to do was well as “The Alluring Stranger” and I don’t know how well it will resonate with readers that have never seen a Stooges short, I think fans of the Stooges will enjoy this.
Seriously, Literotica - and the world in general - would be better with more Three Stooges references. 😃

Please tell me where I can lay my eyes on this lame brain depiction.
‘Hey Moe! Hey Larry! Hey Moe!’ ‘Rajah?’ ‘Aha?’
Sometimes they slayed me.
Other times they were good for a migraine.

Congratulations to the winners! There are some really wonderful stories there and so many creative ideas! I've really enjoyed reading them (many more left to read). Mine came up to 4.86 after the sweep, my highest scoring story so far, and I was happy with that, new readers and lots of appreciative comments. What a fun competition it is. And thanks @Rustyoznail for your oversight in this thread.

I saw a bigger than expected sweep-jump. After struggling to hover just north of red ‘Hot’ most of the contest, this morning it leapt from 4.6 to a much more satisfying 4.84 with the removal of about 5 votes.

If anyone isn’t sick of Halloween/haunting/witching/horror yet, here’s a shameless plug to my story Malleable. Entered late for last year’s contest, buried on the story lists, it still has less than 25 votes after a year, and one lonely comment. And I thought it was a good tale, both sexy and scary.

No worries.

I've had a lot of help here from day one, so it's my small way to help return the favours.

Shame I didn't get around to writing my own story, but there's always winter.

Cheers

Do you know how they determine the winners? In thought it was based on vote score, like the average number of stars, but the top three weren’t ranked based on their vote score. Does it have something to do with the sweep? I don’t know what that is.

I understand that after the winners are announced, their scores often get hit by 1-bombing trolls, channelling the great spirit of omnipresent Internet sludge denizens. So when you're looking at their vote score, it doesn't reflect what the score was at the end of the sweep.

Same with their entire catalog of stories.

Mine has already dropped by .09 points and another story dropped by .23

I find it amusing considering I'm right up there thinking mine was scored way too high. I figure settling around a 4.6-ish is probably a more accurate score.

It's the highest score at a point in time. If more than one has the same score, the highest number of votes wins.

What happens one second later is irrelevant. As Actingup said, the winners are usually carpet bombed, which makes it look odd if you look a couple of hours later.

Ah I see. That makes sense. Its too bad there isn’t a way to filter out the trolls, but I know that’d be hard.

There is. That's what the "sweeps" are.

They happen after the fact, though. It's traditional for contest winners to immediately get schwacked in the score department. Over time, they rise back up and find their level.

They have the algorithm for the sweep. Not sure why they can’t filter votes when they’re made.
