Not trying to come off as sarcastic here, but I've found that a reasonably articulate and well-thought-out personal add works pretty well. Merely popping in on a thread and saying "hi I'm here" might not be the best option.

Say a little something about yourself and what you're looking for and I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised. "Hey I'm here" offers far less fetching prospects...especially if you're looking for a more stimulating level of conversation.

Works much better to me. I get several PMs written the same way.. "hi, how are you?" - Sorry, those get deleted.

It reminds me of the " 1 new text message" on the old Nokia which used to give me the same thrill.
