The Isolated Politics Blurt Thread I: A New Beginning

The usual grifters in national politics don't have the guts to attack the status quo of corruption and exploitation, because they're in it for the corruption. Character may be preferred because it's a longer word. Gutless political characters are available in bulk.

Minor Note: dystopian nut thinks “character” is a longer word than “corruption” or “exploitation”.

While this is a valid reflection of the tax rate. There were then also massive tax breaks given to the wealthy (which benefited society) and allowed them to effectively lower their taxable income. Those tax breaks were not rolled back as the tax rate was dropped from there down into the high 30's over the years. Now that problem has been increased further by the latest tax cuts.

We can all see where the tax cuts were made, but show me where the tax breaks were also reduced? You might have difficulty find that though.

The 1950s US economy was unparalleled because the rest of the industrialized world had bombed itself. It needed decades to recover. Now it is competing while the US throws more money into more war.

The Vermont Republican Party is prohibited from backing a candidate with a felony conviction, according to the party’s publicly posted rules.

That is now a bit of a problem, since the presumptive Republican presidential nominee was recently convicted on 34 felony counts.
“The state committee will not support or promote any candidate for elective office who… is a convicted felon,” read the rules, which govern everything from party meetings to how delegates must vote at national conventions.
oh well... :)

I mean, what did they expect?

Former Donald Trump lawyer Jenna Ellis is denouncing the ex-president for failing to give his co-defendants "one dime" after his criminal conviction in New York reportedly resulted in a fundraising windfall.

Ellis went on to insist that her complaint was not about herself, while lamenting that Trump's co-defendants "are going bankrupt" and claiming that former Trump White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows had "spent everything he has on legal fees."

How the Republicans Became the Party of Precarious Manhood

In particular, Knowles and DiMuccio looked at the kind of data that generally eludes political scientists and political reporters (present company included). They sought out the Google Trends search data for the 12 months immediately preceding the 2016 election for erectile dysfunction, penis size, penis enlargement, hair loss, hair plugs, testosterone, and Viagra—gender-affirming care, of a sort—and labeled them as indices of Precarious Manhood. They produced a map of the United States showing where those Google searches were most common (Appalachia and the Deep South). And by running the standard statistical regression analyses, they found a strong predictive correlation between the rates of those Google searches and the votes for Donald Trump in 2016 (though, of course, those were also votes against Hillary Clinton).

I’m shocked! Shocked! 😆

The article includes other interesting views, but I thought this was funny enough to share.

You just know that POS is voting "republican" to "make america great again…again" so that the scene depicted in the video never happens again.

😑

Of course, the reason that scene will never happen again, in the racist fever dream of “the lowest white man” MAGAt voter, is because when america is made "great" again…again, things will be just like they were back when america was originally "great".

🤬

JFC

SAD!!!

not seeing a Hunter Biden thread so i'm assuming there are existing ones made by those on ignore

Still not sure what all the drama surrounding it is for, on the news and media. Just another court case, just another recovering drug addict having broken laws while using.
I was perfectly content to let the jury come to its own conclusions based on the evidence and arguments presented and have no interest in the story other than a) being pleased at the news President Biden wasn't going to pardon his son if convicted, and b) a conviction removes some steam from the magats' sails who were ready to scream about unfair trails etc.... Of course, there's nothing remotely alike about the charges (or actions) of either convicted felon.
