The Lounge!!

Looks just like the sort of quiet place a chap could get happily lost in.

A large Laphroaig should set me up nicely to while away the time...

I wipe down the bar and begin cleaning glasses with a white cloth. Coffee is brewing and mugs are chilling. The bar is fully stocked from the mundane to the exotic and beyond. Coffee, tea, sodas, liquor, or beer; its all here. Pastries and scones clash a bit with some of the bar food, but I got a bit carried away cracking open bags and cooking things up in the back. I look around and smile satisfied that there is a little something for everyone here.

"Whether or not anybody shows I think I want to set up shop here," I murmur to myself. It is by no means my thread and I was not the one to dig it back up, but it seems a good a place as any to welcome people. A sign goes up in the window.

Welcome one and all.

Walking by, I see the handwritten sign and smile. It seems like a great place to start off the night. Besides, it's been practically forever since I've been around these parts...perhaps I'll run into some old friends and of course, old enemies...

With a small smile upon my face, I enter the lounge and look around as I stay near the entrance...

The night's been going slowly as I continue prepping the place for people that don't quite arrive. By the time I hear the bell on the door, I'd already kicked up my feet on one of the couches. I smile at the familiar face.

"Evening, Zy. I hope life has been treating you well. Can I get with anything?"

I hop up and slide over the bar.

Smiling at the 'barkeep', I give a little wave before moving further into the bar, still taking it all in, "Hey you, life is good, how about you?"

I walk up to him and give him a quick hug, "It's been a while old man."

I chuckle as I return her hug.

"Not too bad. Had a little bit of free time crop up recently just as my laptop died on me. I finally get it up and running and my free time is about up. Figures."

"Ugh, I hate when that happens." Waves a hand around and smiles, "Looks great around here despite all that."

I bow slightly, taking credit for the slight amount of work I've done around here.

"Thank you, kindly. Anything I can get you?"

"Ummm, yeah..something strong...surprise me." I take a seat at the bar and lean my elbows on the bar.

I reach under the bar grabbing a bottle of rum and make a Roman Coke making sure to go a little heavy on the rum. I push the glass to her when I'm done.

"Hope that suits you. I've got a few friends that can mix a fine drink, but I tend to stick to the simple pleasures myself."

Nodding, I take the drink, "It's all good. Simple is usually the best." Taking the glass and raising it slightly in salute before taking a drink.

"Ohh..." I giggle, "That's a good burn..."

"Always glad to hear a compliment like that."

Her laugh makes me smile as my eyes wander over her. Being back feels good and having her here is a fantastic perk.

"It feels good to be back."

Nodding, I look around with him, "Yeah, although, like we talked about before, it's not the same but, like everything in life, things change."

I take another sip and pat the stool beside me, "Have a seat!"

"Too true."

Hers is not an invitation that I can turn down. I slide up next to her and take a seat. Leaning against the bar, I turn on the stool so I can face her.

"Some things don't though. I've never been good at small talk. I've always liked just chilling out in the lounge whether its quiet or crowded."

"Yeah, I know what you mean... it's either just relaxing or writing for me.." taking another sip and then showing him my glass, "Or drinking." I finish with a giggle, "but lately, no more writing...just relaxing.."

"Relaxing can be important too," I offer.

I lean over the bar and grab myself a glass and the bottle to make my own drink, another Roman Coke just as hard as hers.

"Finding to time to get the words for a good story is tough, between work and whatever else gets in the way. A little relaxation is just what the doctor ordered sometimes. I still miss the days when I could just write all night and not worry about the next day though."

I have a cup of black coffee and relax on one of the couches. I kick my feet up on a table and sink back into the couch. Days like today are meant for relaxing.

I pour myself another cup of coffee, taking a deep breath so I can enjoy the scent. I was supposed to be out and about tonight, but lemons and lemonade.

I wander in the lounge out of the heat of where I am. I'm sweaty and a little tired. I know exactly the thing to cure that. I dig around in the fridge behind the bar and pour myself a tall glass of ice cold lemonade. I find the largest comfiest looking couch in the joint and sink into it before taking a long drink of lemonade.

"That really hits the spot."

Wandering around the lounge I find a dusty jukebox in the corner. I dust it off, plug it in, and begin looking for an on button. I find the switch, but flipping it doesn't seem to do it. After a thorough investigation I stand up and kick the side of it. The power kicks on and it starts playing some soft jazz. I push some of the buttons on the front, but nothing seems to change the songs. I shrug and make a sign to hang on it.

Kick to change songs

Finding a hardly used door I give the window a wipe, clearing the layer of dust that obscures the etched glass sign declaring "Lounge".
From inside I hear the mellow sounds of jazz serenading the night.
Placing a hand on the copper plate I push the door open and step through, maybe there will be a few long drinks inside to accompany a few long conversations.
