The Nail Thread

 Naked!

Erm, not quite naked, just a clear coat. I try to keep my nails simple when traveling because I just don't want to worry about chipping colors. This also works for any surprise occasion that might come up. Looks nice and probably "effortless" but totally not. I also used rose water and glycerin as a conditioner for my nails that really helped my cuticles. :)

Very nice :rose:

I didn't know this product was even a thing. Based in the reviews I found it's supposed to be amazing after about a week. I'm rather curious about it, but I don't think I could do the closed shoes constantly. Let us know how it goes. :)

From what I've read it's really important to soak your feet for at least 15 minutes daily. That's what's supposed to help the dried skin come off. Though, I was reading about the ingredients and it's mostly fruit acid. You're basically doing a chemical peel like for your face but on your feet. I hope it works out for you.

How is it going, Elle? Are you hands and feet all baby soft now?

FWIW, my sister-in-law does that foot peel a few times a year and has done so for at least three years now, and every time she's been sure that something's gone wrong. In the end it always works out for her, the results usually start to show after a week. She uses kind of plastic socks that are infused with whatever it is that does the peeling, so as far as I know she hasn't used any of the stuff on her hands.

I've yet to try it, because I hate unnecessary foot touching. I should try it, though. I really, really should.

On another note, I broke my nail pretty bad last weekend, and then yesterday as I was super stressed and waiting for an appointment of sorts I started to pick on it. It got even worse, surprise surprise.

But in the evening I tried the tea bag thing for the first time and it really seems to work! I didn't buff it well enough, so now I have a vertical line on my nail, but at least the tea bag thing gave my nail enough support that it hopefully won't rip any further and in the worst case get infected.

:) I'm glad the teabag fix worked, seela. Just be gentle with it, mine broke a couple of times with the bag because I wasn't careful. It did give it time to heal and grow out safely though.

Sorry the baby feet stuff didn't work out. I wonder if it works best on more extreme cases? I've seen some pretty rough feet (everyone wears flip flops and sandals here) and I imagine the baby feet stuff is only taking off thick layers of dead skin. If you don't have a lot of dead skin built up it's probably not going to give the magical results.

I doubt it would do much for my feet, but you had me very curious and I did start to wonder if I should give it a try. When I have rough spots, I typically use a pumice stone and scrub them every shower. I don't try to eliminate the rough spot in one go, it could become sore.

This is a really odd one, but I sometimes like to put medicated chest rub on my feet and sleep with socks on. They're crazy soft in the morning. :)

My fingers and toes look like disco balls right now. :D I felt like getting a little wild so I put silver glitter on heavy. It's always kind of a letdown with glitter polish and the amount of glitter deposited on the nail so I tend to look for base colors to make it look "fuller." My nails look great, but I was curious about how to get that full coverage look without ten layers of polish and came across this tip: http://tiphero.com/glitter-polish/

I think the liquid latex is an unnecessary step simply because glitter polish chips off of skin very quickly leaving a clean edge. I think I'm going to see if I still have some cosmetic sponges. ( ^ω^ )

I wear glitter often but I LIKE the base colour showing through.

You cannot see that this isn't silver it's what ever this shiny changey colour glitter is called.

I think they look better in real life, better than they have for years. I did them on Tuesday evening and they are wearing at the ends now. I used the base coat collar recommended. The only problem I had was I fell asleep before they were dry. My toes especially suffered but I was so tired I decided they are too far away doesn't one else to see. The Boss thinks it's funny when he looked at them. But my fingernails especially the first day were so pleasing In their non frayed and painted state I have been noticing the better aesthetic in small detail of lots of things my hands are wrapped around :).

They look lovely :rose:

What is the tea bag thing?
Thinking of my mother whose nails are in a bad way.

This is the tea bag thing.

Basically you use a piece of tea bag paper to hold your ripped nail in one piece. It's glued onto your nail using nailpolish.

Like Meeks said, be careful with it after the fix. Mine came loose despite having two layers of nailpolish and top coat over it, so I had to redo the whole thing before my nail grew long enough that I could cut it. After I fixed it the second time I started to wear a latex glove to shower and that really seemed to help and make it stay in place.

That's a pretty color, Elle. I like the mauve type colors like that.

I like the base color showing through when that is the look I'm going for. But when I want straight glitter I want full coverage.

Here's my disco balls.

Thanks, all. The glitter is hell to get off nails but I found a great gelled nail polish remover that sits on the nails for two minutes. It doesn't wipe away exactly, but after putting it on and wiping it off my regular nail polish remover gets the job done just fine. Regular nail polish remover just doesn't cut it by itself.

I changed to something for the summer weather. The colors are Sonic Bloom with Aisle be There over it. The glitter is a chameleon glitter with violet, gold, orange and pink tones.

I'm a fan of the brand Sinful Colors. They are inexpensive and last better than more expensive brands like essie (seriously, got some on sale and it chipped after a day or two ). SC has a gel tech line called Sinful Shine and I tried out a single color maybe last year. It's fantastically shiny, but I didn't bother trying any other colors until today. I purchased Presecco because it was so pretty in the bottle. I'm getting used to it on my nails and thinks it's pretty lovely. Pictures to follow. :)

I like SC as well, but sadly the range of colors we get here is very limited. It's only sold in two chains, neither of which is very convenient for me, so I rarely get them. I hope it'll catch on and become more readily avalable here too and in more colors!

I really like the quality too, but I've noticed it's not quite the same for all colors. I have three bottles and one of them is amazing. It's the Go Go Girl, which I've almost used up. It lasts forever and the coverage is pretty good. I also have Spring Flower and it lasts pretty well, but the coverage is less good. And finally I have Supernova, which is a metallic color. It starts to chip really easily on me, a lot easier than the other two.

You're right. Some colors do cover and last longer than others. Go Go Girl lasts forever. I hope it catches on there too. They have a huge line of colors.

Also, I made a typo in my last post. It's not Presecco, it's Prosecco.
Here's the pic.

Oh that's a really nice color!

I could order them online, but it would take too much planning. To me nail polish is something I just buy without giving it much thought. Which is probably why I've ended up with several almost identical colors at times.
