Besides, aren't turkeys kind of famously stupid?

In defense of turkeys:
The farmed version isn't especially bright, but let me tell you a story about the wild ones.
Many years ago my parents owned a small log cabin within a state park in Pennsylvania. The park was built around an old iron ore furnace and accompanying open pit mines, which had filled in to become a pair of lakes when they hit a spring. The lakes were connected to the furnace by a short railroad line. In the 60s the rail was removed and the line became an excellent walking/biking trail. My parents got the cabin in 1979. I'd always enjoyed wildcrafting, so off I went to learn about all of the flora and fauna in the area, do a little fishing, and lots of photography.
One late October day I was walking with a friend off the trail. I think we were looking for hickory nuts. It was hunting season, so we could hear occasional echoes of gunshots from the state game lands a few miles away. The cabin was within the state Park lands, so no hunting allowed there. We're walking along and suddenly hear this odd noise. We walked towards it, as quiet as we could, and came upon a flock of wild turkeys!!! There were about 15 or so hens, and one big Tom strutting around, and they were all chattering. I took some pix then something startled them and they flew up into the trees! (They are leaner than their fat farm brethren, and can fly pretty good.)
A while later I realized just how smart those turkeys were....they were well away from the hunters, nice and safe in the Park!

I was thinking of the Icelandic hákarl, but sure, some of the other Nordic countries aren't exactly strangers to rotten fish either.

I think we all are recycling.
Mine just turned 4, I think. I've never changed the av here, except to use this embellished Christmas version (gloriously made by moi
). I've been looking for a new av that's a little less dark and a little less nip slip-py, but I haven't found anything I like, so I'm stuck with this.

Yesterday would've been Sir Winston's birthday. I always remembered because his was the day after mine, and we thought it was amusing that we shared a first name and almost a birthday.
