The Official Authors' Hangout Summer Lovin' 2024 Contest Support Thread

I won a contest once that I'd forgotten I'd entered. I didn't find out until I logged in here and had about ten congratulatory PMs, like two days later.

I felt stupid.
I feel the pain. I was looking at stats and see this Blue W on a story. WTF? I raced over to the support thread and sure enough there I was. I took a screen shot just in case they cancelled it 'cause they'd made a mistake.

And Summer Lovin 2024 is off and running.

https://www.literotica.com/stories/contest.php/summer-lovin-2024

My output has been exceptionally intermittent for months, not having managed anything since the 25th Anniversary event in November. And the previous couple of contests to that I'd only managed to squeak in under the deadline. This time I managed to get it at the start. Less due to any sort of strategy around scoring and more around shaking off the doldrums and getting it finished.

Mine is out!

Tokyo Heat

I thought I'd say it's the shortest I've ever written, excluding the 750's, but checking my stats I see that is not the case. Anyway, it's short.

I’m off to a good start. 5K readers, 4.71 rating with 12 favorites and two new followers in the first four hours or so. I’ve never had that kind of response. Looks like contests do indeed pay off in exposure.

Mine in EC has a whopping 688 views at this point 😁 so a lot of it is still the category. I think contest stories are at the top of the new lists, in addition to the list of contest stories, and that helps. Especially in I/T it’s otherwise possible to start already at the page two of category new hub, and that’ll definitely affect the views.

Wow! This is by far my lowest rated story and it's already gotten one comment letting my know exactly why. Eight of my ten lowest-rated stories are for Literotica Contests and Author's Challenges. Obviously, I'm a slow learner. 😳 Well, good luck everyone else!!

No doubt the category is a huge factor in view counts. Mine is I/T, so it’s just about guaranteed to get a high number of views. However, scoring is all about the ratings, and I’ll be happy to just stay over 4.5.

HUGE factor, always.

I/T is always going to get a boost. I'm glad yours has been received well!

Mine's in Mature. 3k views so far, lol.

Mine is out. Couple of comments on names jumping around so I need to go review and tidy that up (kind of expected for my first go I suppose)

Looking forward to reading all the others.

31 stories on the first day, I imagine the final tally will be impressive. Already a dozen categories and a wide range of summer.

This may be the wrong place to ask, but I have anonymous comments enabled, and I made a comment in response to a couple of them. It says it was posted but when I go back, my comment is not there, and I don't see it anywhere in the control panel to moderate - how do I make my comment appear ?

My activity screen is just blowing up. Since the story posted, I’ve got eleven new followers, new favorites on all my other five stories, 31 favorites for the new story with over 16K views. I never dared hoped for such a response.

I think I love contests.

There is often a lag, particularly as a new author, between comments posting and appearing. Not sure how long, but yours will likely show up by the end of the day.

As a new author, you're moderated more than the authors who have been here for a while. Even though most of mine appear immediately, occasionally one disappears for a few hours. Probably just Manu not pressing a button somewhere.

One more-maybe silly-question. If I edit my story to fix some typos readers have noticed and submit an EDIT - will it affect the entry in the contest somehow ? Or should I just leave it alone?

Edits take a long time to get published. I usually let all the typos be, because I think it’s better to use my energy towards the future stories, but I know there are those who diligently polish their back catalogue so do what you will. It shouldn’t affect the competition in any way. If you turn off voting then you’ll be disqualified, but I can’t think of anything else that would do that.

Thanks, hopefully my last dumb question for now. Are votes likes ? Or is it the story score ? Or something else ?
