The Official Fashion Fairy Thread

I'll pose a fashion question...

Guys, how long should your suit jacket be? Do you like a bit of shirt sleeve extending beyond the coat sleeve?

I ask because I got a jacket altered just this week that feels just a wee bit short for my tastes, but I think it's probably correct.

3/8 to 1/2” of visible cuff works well. Anything up to 3/4 inch could be fine, unless you’re sporting cufflinks, which is a whole different thing. You’ll want to show more of the French cuff (and show off the cufflinks). Not something you traditionally see with sport coats, but who knows… kids today are wearing seersucker pants with argyle socks and deck shoes.

Of course, if you are wearing your vanilla ice cream colored Footjoys with the Rainbow Brite laces, nobody will notice the caliber your cuffs are shooting.

This gif is fantastic. Although this could just be the drink talking, I find its appearance on page three of this thread somewhat apropos. A forewarner or caution of sorts, about the potential risk of this thread jumping the shark (or in this case, winged swine). :)

I have decided that said jacket was a bit too short and I am taking it back to my seamstress today. I need another 1/2" or so in length. Shuddup fuckers.

I do often wear French cuffs and cuff links, but probably not with this jacket. This jacket is more like the suit jacket variety, in that it is not casual like a sport coat. This is actually the jacket, or something close to it. However, it says seersucker in the description and my jacket is not seersucker.

Yes... First world problems as Rainshine says. :D

Are you implying that this thread could drift?! Never!!!!

Are those jeans or tights? I need to see the boots closer? Are those black pants? Brown boots?

Black pants with brown boots? What sort of amateur do you think you're dealing with here? They're blue jeans. Dark blue, but blue none-the-less.

Sorry, I didn't have on my very fashionable glasses.

Is that a scarf? The blouse and all gets a 9. I have always loved white on you. It's very flowy and pretty.

The pants look nice and form fitting, so they get a 10.

The boots are nice. I give them an 8. You'll notice the boot is made up of only a few pieces of leather, which is indicative of a higher quality shoe. The colouring is quite nice. You have a nice, small sized foot, like all of your tiny limbs.

The overall outfit gets a 9.

Feel free to post more, Teen Wolf.

What do you think you should get?

Do we have a fashion fairy overthrow on our hands?!!

Unless "overthrow" is fancy Aussie-speak for throw up, the throne won't be pulled from under pmann's Sergio Valente-clad bottom anytime in the foreseeable future (read: ever). At least not by me.

He can reign supreme, Fairy Queen Panda Eyes Glimmerwinks of the Kingdom of Misfit Shoes and Haute Couture Flippy Flops.

LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!

zooming in on hand towel, checking for monograms - this could take the gloss off the sexy boots

Oh dear. It appears as though the dry cleaners were unable to get that zinfandel stain out of someone's favorite, and elegantly buttoned, navy crepe de Chine blouse. Er, I mean workshirt.

Dear Fashion Fairy,

How can a woman wear animal prints without going over the top? I have a very cute leopard-print scrunchie, but wearing it with all black seems too dour.

The Lady or The Leopard

A scrunchie? Like, the hair thing? I can't imagine wearing that with black would be that crazy looking.

Here is my opinion on leopard or animal print...

As long as it's not super tight, it's okay. Otherwise, it just looks trashy. I remember when I was about 14 I was in Atlanta during what was called Freacknik. It's basically a spring break event where people fuck up the city and piss on things. I wasn't there for that, I just happened to be in town during that time. Yes, this a long intro for my animal print opinions, but deal with it.

Anyway, I was amazed a the amount of animal print. Holy shit. I'd never seen such animal print. And it was all so tight, it looked disgusting. I remember seeing this and thinking how ridiculous it looked on this one girl. It looked like she killed a cheetah. Ate the poor thing. Skinned the fucker and made the world's tiniest skirt and wrapped it around her ass. Then she jumped on a car and shook it for all the world to see.

That was my first time taking notice of animal print, so I was a bit tainted. My virgin eyes were so bothered by the sight. I thought all animal prints were worn so tackily. However, since then, I have seen it worn much better. One has to be cautious about wearing it. Absolutely. It can lean on the side of tacky. But it can be worn well, particularly in moderation.

I say wear that scrunchie, girlfriend!! *snaps fingers in gay motion*

Who went Black Friday shopping? I did last night, which is unusual. However, I was pretty tame. I bought one jacket and then like 10 shirts from my favourite shirt store. Other than that, not much was purchased.

Aha.. so I should relegate it to the 'dressups box' for 80s parties, then?

You're the worst Fashion Fairy ever. This is no noble prize winner, pmann.

Unless you're a hooker or a whore you should not wear animal print. Nor scrunchies. You should definitely never combine the two unless they're sharing the same trash bag.

Dude, you just called me a hooker or a whore for my leopard print boots. From here on in, you are on your own to defend your fashion choices to the fashion fairy, no more well researched support for denim jackets. *shakes head sadly* I will be too busy working the corner.

*sits and watches Saucy leave Teen Wolf to the... well, fashion wolves*

I will say I am typically not a fan of animal prints. But, I find them to be more palatable in accessories as opposed to clothes. Just my personal preference.

If a single piece is paired with solid colors, it can be quite striking and tasteful. These days, leopard is being called the new neutral. I've successfully paired it with denim, black (of course), red, all shades of brown, green, turquoise, magenta, coral and white. While I can't quite get into animal print pants, a tailored skirt or jacket/blazer is something else entirely. Used as a focus piece in an ensemble, you have yourself an eye catching (in a good way) outfit. See below:

Y'all would be so disappointed in me. My style is jeans, tshirt, and sneakers. I've only recently even started wearing eye makeup, let alone watching for trends in fashion. My poor daughters...

I do like reading here, though. Maybe I'll shape up? Or maybe not, old dog and all. :)

Nah. No worries. Exchange the sneakers for flats, and your description is my basic weekday uniform. Too much to do in mom mode, ya know? But I do like to dress up for church, or when we go out to eat. Gotta grab opportunity where I can.

Nup, sorry, not liking that outfit at all, though I'm not sure if it's because those pants are too long and just look terrible.

Fair enough. Although, it's tough to tell if the pants are too long, or if she's wearing white pumps, and they just blend.

I still say it's a far cry from street walker attire, though. ;)

I'm glad to see the Fashion Fairy thread getting so much love. Indeed, we are tackling the issues that are most important to society today. Important stuff people.

I'm curious... Are there any people here who are particularly loyal to a certain brand? Not necessarily because of the brand. But because you like their fit or their style?
