Same reason that you don't see comments from me. Getting shouted down for showing honesty isn't worth the effort of typing it.

If you put a poem on thin skinned or poetry construction and ask to develope it for submission then I see no problem with jumping in with both feet and tear into the poem as was asked. But when a poem is submitted it is in the list as is and to rearrange it with like you say waste of time for chances are they will not resubmit it, also the swelled head comments are mostly by an anon , rarely does a person with a name we know act like a total jerk while leaving a critic, but is clearly a stepping stone in the learning critics knotches.

I understand that Liar and I promise there is little I hate <grin> the need for such a thread is magnet to those that need others to disect, discuss and grow. I am not against anyone doing what makes them happy. Including 12's name nominee but an award to encourage negativity is what I have a small problem with, fostering a slew of comments from those with out merit or degress is a hen house full of chickens squawkin, and not exactly helpful.
Read what I said, honest criticism IS NOT NEGATIVITY.
Fluff is death to CREATIVITY.
I never praise anyone who has a negative attitude and can't see beyond their nose.

"fostering a slew of comments from those with out merit or degress is a hen house full of chickens squawkin, and not exactly helpful."

and this cuts both ways doesn't it?

I beg to differ. If we can not learn from eachother, who else are we going to learn from? Why else are we here. Why are you here? Everyone has merits, if only from having a perspective on life, writing and language that is unique for that individual. By sharing eachothers perspectives, we can broaden our horizons and grow as persons. By sharing the bits and pieces of expertise that we as amateurs do have instead of a real scholar's more complete spectra, we can help each other build a better toolbelt of writing tools.

Why do you think that is a bad thing?

And if you post it with comments, turned on....

and you know how I feel about anon This is not the case, everyone I mentioned, does not fit that description. Everyone mentioned, has been nicer than I would have been Except for one small diffence of opinion.

It is high timesomebody recognized their efforts. Might as well be me.

May I point out that the threads that 1201 just referred to (especally Not For The Thin-Skinned) are crreated for the purpose of non-sugar-coated critisism, and that participating there is in fact to ask for just that.

Some of the best advice I have ever gotten if you can't say anything useful then do not say anything.

The climate on this board is to testy sometimes that I can't dare to be honest, without an overwhelming risk of being branded as Satan, Hatemonger Extraordinaire, Clubber Of Baby Seals and Destroyer Of All Things Beautiful. That's why this camper doesn't post much here anymore, except wh I know it's 5000% safe I don't step on anybody's toes.

This post is an exception, but I feel that it had to be said.

I have been thinking of asking "The Poets" to name the soon to be new sub-forum after/in honor of her. However I have not been able to come up with a Y *** D *** D *** title that would represent what she stood for. Do you, or anyone else, have a suggestion?

Y 'all

Okay, personally I found nothing that Tzara said about my poem to be negative. I posted willingly in the thread in the first place, knowing full well the concequences of that action.

Now, truth be told, I didn't find anything helpful out of what Tzara said about my peom either. I mean the word "things" alone is certainly a non-word, that's where you have to look at the context. Anything out of context can be meaningless. I personally feel that the word fits there. Did I find the comment negative, no.

Do I feel they deserve any sort of award for the feedback. I dunno, I'd have to go and read through it again. I do appreciate that they at least took the time to give their opinion, rather than come in here and bitch out someone for creating a light-hearted thread in a forum where people want to keep it far too serious. I mean, ever other forum has a chat room where people can shoot the shit. I come here, read the occassional thread, post now and then, and then I go back to the Author's Hangout, or the Playground to actually be able to enjoy my time online.

In other words, I agree with Liar.

your kidding right?

An Award to any body that can disect a poem or speak their mind harshly, rather they have A Literary degrees or not? Who would have thought of that?

You two, I like, so here it is in a nut shell ... there are two ...that I know of and would certainly like to be enlightened if there are more ...with the professional background and or college degree that states they are qualified to critic a write. Now from what I have seen most comments here are mere wind and hot air, as Lauren said ...her critique is nothing more than her opinion.

so how can you (qualified?) give an Award for being negative? certainly you intend to assure these are qualified critics? or just any Joe Blows opinion?

(~_~)

BWAAH HAAA!!!!

a degree that states they are qualified to critic a write?

Bwaahh Ha ha!!!

come on MET, who is kiddin now?

In some ways, it may even be better, spectra may be broader here, than elsewhere, more tools, more questioning of the tools

Thank you, numbers. Well, let's continue with the original topic. YDD awards. Yes, I loved her comments. I feel that an honest and constructive comment is invaluable. I think it's simply fine that you want to thank those who put so much effort into critiques.

This is a waste of space in this forum.

Ha ha ha ha ha

oh my there is so much wasted space in this forum how can anyone tell the difference??? this thread it a hoot
.

This is a poetry forum NOT a political forum. This type of thread combined

this type of thread= praising someone with the intelligence and courage to tell the fucking truth whoooo hoooo!!!!!

bring em on

with the negative reviews of the other day (where the poem was mentioned but more negative aspects were mentioned then the WHY it is good therefore why were they even mentioned in the reviews?).... are reasons why every one is leaving the forum.

okay you are kidding now, right?

I understand all have thier thoughts and the freedom to voice them but if you people have not heard .... THIS SHIT OF NEGATIVE POUNCING ON OTHERS NEEDS TO STOP.

okay you can start by stop pouncin on our needs to seek honest, intelligent reviews   :rose:

If you can not be nice then go join a political group or a religion... where you are taught that you are the SAVED and RIGHT.... and leave this forum alone to be what it is suppose to be.. a writers haven to express themselves and learn.

Some of the best advice I have ever gotten if you can't say anything nice then do not say anything.... unless asked. I swear if you put this much effort into writing a poem we might have something to create a thread about....but I find it funny that neither of you post hardly any poems to share with others... why is that?

So either write something or be nice and quiet unless ASKED. Learn to play nice both of you... otherwise you are looked at as ASSES...

Now I have had my say... which is not my usual way... but enough is enough and I am damn sick of this place becoming a hell hole.... and killing any type of writing that can be enjoyed.

wow Du, I want to praise you, no sarcasm, but this is the most honest post I have seen from you, and I mean it, I appreciate it! We are big girls and boys here and can take it, does not have to be considered negative....it is all how people read it. YDD kicked ass, she was the best. I remember when WE gave me my first tough crit, I felt fucking HONORED because it told me she knew I was READY to take it. Big girl. No more lollipops for your bad poetic behavior! Okay not like that. She said cut this mother fucker in half, okay not like that either but still. yeah.

well I took an ass chewing from sack for not having a literary degree and therefore any comments left with out proper merit are 'superficial '(~_*) as Tolyk said most of the time the review of a poem is more indepth and out of sync with why the poem was written in the first place. twist that with their personality and you have what we have today 4 with degrees that rarely comment and the rest practicing

Hi Tara, nice to see you again :)

Thanks again for the advice you gave me way back when. :) I never did finish that poem though *chuckle* I still have all the PMs with your advice saved away though and read them over any time I'm editting any of my new work. Thank you.
