Things that made you swear today.

Boys! There are horrible creatures!!

My daughter spent ages making a card for me yesterday, and my son thought it was funny , at some point during the night to get up, and to add "the fat pig" after she signed her name, and added stink lines around her name! Think Bart Simpson, but a whole lot less funny, and a whole lot more annoying!

Jerk!!

I will kill him when I get home from work tonight!!

If I watched that on TV, seriously, I would have laughed my ass off, I guess he has a wicked sense of humor

Shit I wish I was that lucky.

Tosses my empty wine glass at the wall

Here is a giant fuck you to that person whom I have inherited my genes from. Fuck you, and your fucking conditional training that incites me to take care of you when you excel at lying to me.

Holds my head. Someone remind me not to post when I've been drinking? thanks.

Loosing a f****** post that had taken me ages to do and was almost complete, because the stupid laptop froze and I couldn't get it to save, or move the stupid cursor, so I had to turn the f****** thing off, to 'unfreeze' it.

F****** useless piece of ****!

I'm not happy!

When that happens it sometimes takes me weeks to re-do it :(

I started working at 7 this morning after waking up at roughly 6. When did I eat lunch? 3:45 pm on my way home. That was some bullshit!!

A persistant problem with my laptop that is testing my patience. The other option is to use the family pc down stairs where there's not enough privacy to have my sites open with out concern.

My 'computer speak' is basic Ahren, so forgive me.

I'm not sure basically what's wrong, which is a pain in the ass. The laptop is running so slow that it sometimes doesn't complete loading a page and times out. Its on everything from email, to here, to anywhere I chose to browse. My antivirus tells me I've no infections (avg, free edition which I've used for years with no problem), but yet my spy doctor (PCtools spyware doctor, which I've used free for years also) tells me I've hundreds, but it doesn't clean only scannsl. I've even installed Kasperskey but had to uninstall as it wouldn't let me go online at all, so I'm back to using the free stuff. It had scanned with it and found nothing too, but as soon as I tried to open a browser, it refused to let me connect to the internet and browse. Again, I don't know why, but at least I got to the internet as soon as I disabled it, and reinstalled the free stuff that it had insisted I uninstall.

So I'm annoyed, because as far as I know I've installed nothing only those two free protections and I've done that years ago with no bother and they update themselves. So I'm stuck.

Spybot Seach and Destroy, Malware-bytes antispyware/malware

and download AVG's new PC tuneup kit, you can use it once for free,

(or go to thepiratebay and download the cracked full version ;) )

but i also use AVG free for years and just recently upgraded to the Full 2011 version without a problem

"things that made me swear today"

why the FUCK am i up soo damn early on a sunday?

Thank you Logan, I'll go hunting the places and try find what you suggest.

Thanks for being so helpful.:)

Always reboot first. 9 times out of 10 this solves most "issues." After you've done this or already have and it fails to change anything then read further.

You may want to check with your Internet provider if it's only slow Internet you're experiencing. There's a possibility they have an explanation. If this isn't the case, read further.

Did this just start happening randomly, or has it just been getting progressively slower? If it's your entire computer and the latter option, chances are it's time for you to defragment your hard drive (and not keep it filled to the very brim. Regularly delete things you know you do not need.) This only applies if your whole computer is slowed down, though. A bad stick of RAM could also cause a computer to drag if you start piling on a lot of tasks. Defragmenting fairly regularly is still recommended, even if you're not currently suffering slowdown.

You should also remove automatic startup items that you know are pointless. This can be done by typing msconfig into the start menu search bar (for Vista and 7). It would be the Run command for XP and earlier. Then click the Startup tab and look at the list. Probably best not to touch the ones you don't recognize, but something like Quicktime isn't something you need on startup. This is general advice, even when you're not having issues.

If it's just your browsing and isn't your ISP then Malware and Spyware are my guess. They're not always correctly detected by antivirus software. Sometimes you need to try multiple programs. There are a few good ones:

Ad-Aware
Malwarebytes
Spybot

I can confirm the validity of these programs. Though I believe Malwarebytes and Ad-Aware won't let you install both, so just choose one I suppose.

If your problems are not then solved, you might consider uninstalling programs you have recently acquired and seeing if it speeds up after removal.

If that fails, you may want to consider doing a system restore. Assuming you have it activated (it's usually on by default) and didn't overload your hard drive, you should have a few of these restore points. They'll revert your computer to an earlier date. You can just type system restore into the search bar and it should come up. If it's XP or earlier uh, I believe it's in the accessories and/or system tools folder. Choose one before you started having problems, obviously. You will lose anything you've done to the computer after that point. Though this is a good thing if you have acquired a malicious program.

If you're still painfully slow after that then it's possible a part is going bad or your hard drive is just too deeply infected. This is really a whole separate process and obviously I don't want to get into it unless that ends up being the case. I highly doubt that it is.

I wrote way too much for something that is probably a really simple problem.

Ahern, thank you!

Firstly Im on vista, and it defragments autmatically weekly, it was set that way from the day of purchase.
I've scanned and rebooted countless amount of times, so that's covered.

I think like you, it's maybe a malware problem, so I'll use the links and pick one. Thank you. I appreciate the time taken to post.

Also, I've tried doing that system restore, but the choices of restore points are only a few days old, and I'd need to literally restore back a couple months at the least to be on the safe side.

I'll try the links first though, and like I said thank you. It was very good of you to take the time.

You've had this issue for months? I wouldn't be able to stand that for an hour. It also suggests other possible problems. I forgot it was a laptop.

It's bad the last week or so, but I'd go back 2 months maybe if I were to figure out how to do a system restore, for the simple reason I'd allowed my son use the laptop while we were waiting for the new family pc to arrive. He says he downloaded nothing, but.......I'd sooner cover my back and go that far back just in case.

I can pretty much guarantee he downloaded something. Even if it wasn't spyware or a virus. Unfortunately some spyware can hit you by just clicking a bad site.

A very useful website is called Web of Trust. It'll allow you to put links into the box and check a site's reputation if you're ever suspicious about a link. I'd highly recommend using Firefox (or Chrome) as your browser and getting the WOT addon. It's not invasive but will show colored rings depending on the danger level next to google links or sites you're currently on. Very handy. Also free.

Also your computer speak isn't basic. "This thing isn't working. Something is wrong." is basic. In which thing could just be them accidentally resizing a window and not even knowing how to change it. Could be their mouse cable is loose. Could be they just haven't rebooted in a while and things are slow. Could be their computer or monitor isn't even fucking plugged in (yeah, it happens).

It's hard to believe that some people can be surrounded by technology and not know how to reboot. Even my mother knows and she is terrible with computers. It solves most tech support issues. Reformatting and reimaging solves most of the rest.

The Malware one offered to clear only 15 problems, but the spybot, man it's superb. Thank you Ahren again.

And thanks for the last post, I'll check out the link there and insist the kid use it when he's poking around. I don't want something happening to the pc downstairs because he doesn't pay attention.

And thanks for the smile. I don't feel so silly now that I know a little more.

Thanks for your time. :rose:

bleeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhh

Don't really want to come home from work (which is this) and then.. continue doing that work. That said, if someone really needs help they are free to PM me or prod me in a thread I post in.
