I can't get the external monitor connected to my laptop to display the correct resolution to save my soul (not that it's worth much, but you get the idea). I have tweaked, uninstalled, re-installed, and otherwise cajoled every possible driver and display setting to no avail. And all because I got fed up with Norton Internet Security. When my system rebooted after the NIS uninstall my monitor gave up its independence.

is it possible that it might need to be reset in the configuration of the display to output to the other monitor (or to two monitors)? I have a similar issue at work on occasion with the laptop there. Usually it's just a need to tell it to output the display to a different choice than what it's got automatically selected.
