This is empirical proof that you are still a yankee and always will be. There are, in fact, subtle phonemic differences between y'all singular and y'all plural. I recall studying them in another life.

But you already know this, you're just having fun kvetching, aren't youse?

I went to college with a girl from southeastern Ohio who didn't use "y'all" or "youse". It was "You'uns". I've never heard that before or since.

That sounds like a cross-pollination between you-all and young'uns and has all the earmarks of a very localized usage.

Must. Stop. Linguistic. Analysis. Will. Drive. Friends. Nuts.

Had a discussion about that topic with my friend in Boston once. What started it was her mentioning her "mum" instead of her "mom".

Can't help it--I am a dictionary geek. I love stuff like that--you won't drive me nuts.

Maybe you know. Why is is "governor", but the adjective is "gubernatorial"?

here's an ever better question, this was braught up,
Man Slaughter is almost the same as Mans Laughter.... Ever notice that? and if so, ever wonder why?

Hence a quote from a friend, "i'm about to put the laughter back in man slaughter".... ((he's weird... he says that when-ever someone pisses him off, which is why it fits this thread))

she should never have been let into an institution of higher learning... having not mastered the lower learning by that time.

useless assholes.

OMG, wickie, I love buying fabric online! With very few exceptions, I have been very pleased with the quality.

I only go to this shop when I need to have everything put together, so it's not a huge deal. It just hit me wrong today. The steps just make it more of a hassle, and I was very disheartened. :(

Wait, if the only way for you to get in the store is through the back entrance when means you have to go through gravel, does that mean the store isn't up to ADA code?

Extremely Fucking Stupid..apparently.

[wonders if some of her former students happend to be in that group EJ refers to.]

EJ--ask them if they know what the word, equality means....if they say no, run.

It's private property, I guess. And there is a wc-accessible entrance, technically. I'm not sure if the ADA applies here.

Oh, geez. I don't know where that comes from. Some people pronounce it "Y'uns."

You'll be happy to know that although I live in SE OH, I don't use this word. Ever. :D

WPMO. . .

Seeing a dead guy getting hung out to dry by his employer (he died while working). It would be nice if all the facts were known before conclusions were drawn.

That many of old comments in our blogs are messed up from the change to the new format. Most of the formatting is gone and everything is a big blob instead of in paragraphs the way we originally commented.

Well, thank heaven. I didn't want to have to shun you. ;)

idul fitri is pissing me the fuck off. it's pissing me off b/c i had to try to call a muslim country last night, where my factory is located. they're closed in observance of the holiday and hence, nobody's there and the phone lines are jammed. and of course, i need something from them urgently, something that's just pissing off my customer.

damned end of fasting! :p

This quote, from a member of the Ohio Board of Regents:

"People in the Humanities need to know about things more practical, like math."

***Please note, that in no way do I think that math is not an important skill.***

There's an adjunct English instructor (teaches composition and developmental writing classes) at the college I used to work for who "outsources" her paper-grading. The reason? She doesn't "do" grammar.

She's teaching seven classes this fall.

eilan: how the fuck does that work? TAs? quid pro quo w/ other instructors? voodoo? inquiring minds wanna know!

Adjunct instructors don't get the luxury of TA's Silver, FYI.

So, I would say her "outsourcing" is under the table.

Hmmmmm...you think I can convince my 5 year-old to grade papers for me?
