Thinkings, feelings and...doings ~ 2013

Wondering why I'm simultaneously intrigued/repelled by Hamilton. Also missing Massacre, sigh.

LT ~ Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

Feeling ~ Ready for this sickness bug to leave my house.

Doing ~ Disinfecting the floor. Again.

LT: Why did I agree to do two 12 hour shifts in a row? My eyes are barely opening.

F: Like we need cheerleaders or incentive or something for the December challenge

D: About to leave the house and get stuck into this day.

Thinking: Real fucking gloomy thoughts.
Feeling: Blue.
Doing: Dividing my attention between the interwebs and Warehouse 13.

F: Really don't want to get out of this cosy warm bed and drag my punk arse out in the cold for a late shift.
T: C'mon Braschi, don't make me beg for another post. *mental footstomp*
D: Swigging tea and munching a toasted muffin while listening to Moyles on Radio X.

Oooh, tune. Seahorses; Love is the law

There's a lot of discussion about race on it, to be sure. Historically, Danny has been white. But, it is an exploration of a part of Asian culture. But, part II, in his origins, Danny is an outsider because he is white. And to make the character Asian is to also walk a line of cliches.
Its a tough call, and I'm not sure how I'd go on it.
They could do worse than keeping Danny white and surrounding him with an Asian cast.
But I don't know. It's one of those difficult situations. I certainly don't mind them changing his race at all (as opposed to fanboys, who are set to ruin everything). How do you treat the character with respect, not fall into racial stereotypes laid down over generations, and acknowledge the realm into which the character is diving?
It ain't easy, and you are always going to upset someone. It's a tough gig to go with.

I read an article discussing this topic the other day and it does seem very difficult. My problem is how appropriative a white character would be and how discussions about being "transracial" always seem to focus on white individuals.

But yeah, how do you write him as an Asian character without typecasting and flipping yet another crappy American attempt at wuxia onto the heap? Getting what you sent now! Ty ty :heart:.

Exactly! And that's the struggle (pun intended). It comes down to how one deals with history, in all facets?

I SEE WHAT YOU DID

Alas, I won't be able to read it until I finish all of the finals stuff this week. It'll be a nice little reward to me! I will also buy an extra large box of Drumstick ice cream cones but that's neither here nor there.

You'll love it.
BTW, Trader Joe's makes miniature drumstick ice cream cones that are wonderful!

The nearest TJ's to me is about an hour away. I haven't had time all semester to make any jaunts there, but it's quickly becoming a priority at this point.

God, I love/hate Trader Joe's.

Falllllllllllllout 4 rules my life. It is my Lord and Master (and Commander?). I'm about to start being disappointed I don't have VATS in real life.

LT ~ Well, that was an unexpected treat. Something positive to end an otherwise shitty day.

Feeling ~ Overwrought.

Doing ~ Looking at tonight's photos before falling into a hot shower and then my bed.

I wish I liked this game.
(Also, it holds very little resemblance to Boston)

To be fair, you don't know what Boston after a nuclear war looks like. And it is an alternate-ish universe.

There was actually a post on the Fallout subreddit comparing landmarks in the game to real-life pictures. They were pretty close.

I find myself coming back to it, I'm not enjoying as much as the other. I still like New Vegas more even if it was glitchy.
