Throb

All wasted breath anyway...

I opened an account on "Deviant" Art under a different name.
It turns out the deviations allowed are only a couple degrees off "center"... and that is WITH a content Warning. Now, all that is fine, like here, it is free and they have their rules and guidelines. I will adhere to them, once I understand them.

My initial gallery was VERY explicit work (same crap I have had here). Almost immediately there were some comments. A heads up as to Deviant's definition "pornographic material" and one stating that "this isn't Art it's smut."

I removed the "offending images right away... NOT becaus ethey were "offensive", but because of the guidelines. I HAD checked the radio button for "Contains mature content. YES [Strict]. Nudity, Sexual Themes, (but not Violence/Gore, Strong Language, Ideologically Sensitive). I gather one has to declare their age to be able to view such things AND choose to in their preferences. I am ok with having limitations. My bigger issues are with a "pompous" attitude on what constitutes "Fine Art" vs "smut" or "pornography" and the justification of nude models under the guise of "Art".

So... much as I do here I posted a rant in my "journal" there:

ART!? ART!?
Tue Apr 21, 2009, 4:23 PM
I was reading some journal rantings that were berating Some hapless, crass fool who had posted a lewd comment about a beautiful photograph of a beautiful naked model.

I do not in any support this guy.

I DO take issue with all the posturing about "fine art".

As intrinsically lovely as I find the human form... and as broad as my tastes range, there are some that I do not find appealing. In our current societies (to varying degrees) nudity IS sexual...it is INTIMATE... it is even sensuous. Of course it CAN be clinical.... like at the doctor's office.

I find that too many "artists" claim that there is nothing sexual in artistic nudes. THAT is bullshit! Then why do they seek gorgeous models? The do, because they are aesthetic, because they are enticing...appealing.. SEXUAL even.

Artistry is not BECAUSE there is a nude in an image. And and image is not necessarily PORNOGRAPHY because of a nude either.

The level of "titillation" for any image is in part due to the craftsmanship and intent of the "artist"... and probably, to a greater extent in the eye of the beholder.

I have drawn enough from life to know the "Decorum" required/expected in such circumstances. I am also very focused when I am drawing and maintain a professionalism. HOWEVER, I am also VERY aware of the intimacy of studying a naked person (male or female). I feel that any "artist" who is NOT aware of that, has no empathy and no humanity and their work is HOLLOW... and/or they are lying.

By God, we ARE sexual beings. If you think you are including a nude as merely a beautiful prop... THAT is idiotic. Art is about communication... of an idea, a concept... that person in your work better have a reason.. and if nude... there better be a reason...and as a human viewer, one will naturally have the most empathetic reaction TO another human... positive, negative. If the subject is naked... That does have connotations... one of which IS sexual.

____

Funny, PART of this rant was provoked back when I first opne my deviant account. I had not read the "fine print" about what constitutes "pornographic imagery" by Deviant art's standards. I am perfectly willing to follow their standards, as this is free.

However, someone ( I wish I had noted who) poste da comment on one of my images>

~"This isn't Art, this is smut!"

Now I freely acknowledge that the image that was commented on was VERY explicit. MAYBE it was "Smutty" whatever THAT means. And though, it was not the most masterful piece. I felt that it did communicate a vital part of it means to be human. I DO explore my sexuality in my imagery. Yes, much IS titillating , but that is not my sole purpose. Also, I am not delusional about my skills. I have "some" mastery. Of course many pieces that I posted (in that brief window before becoming enlightened as to my "offense") are not "finished" works, they are studies. they are explorations into a particular part of myself... and to some extent a part of EVERYONE, acknowledged or denied. That is to say the part of all of us that is a sexual being. (to varying degrees, of course).

I'm just confused

As to why, just because you have an additional gallery at Deviant Art, you felt the need to gut your gallery here again. I gathered the last two times were because your alter ego on this board was exposed or about to be exposed in your professional life.

Heck if having more than one venue for artwork was a rule I should have been booted right from the start. Veralsi has a gallery of some of my work, so does Artastic Forum, Underground animation, (all with my permission) as does a small page I puttered at on Deviant Art, that doesn't count what's here, or on my blog and my own very out of date pattysgallery web site.

All different audiences, many different tastes, and I doubt anyone here ever called your work smut. Had anyone thought it, they had the grace to change the channel and keep their inappropriate thoughts to themselves

I just asked because I missed you and was concerned you'd had another identity mishap. I'm sorry you've chosen to move away from lit. I will miss you.

Thanks, Patty.:rose:
I just grew tired of LIT as a venue. The people who did come here have scattered and there really is not much appreciation for visual erotica, beyond some of the amateur pics threads.

I removed the works here even prior to considering Deviant.
Devinat Art is not really what I am after either, a sit is too tame. I DO enjoy reviewing many of the illustrators there. However, I have not yet found a forum for any intelligent conversation there.

I still look in now and again, but I find there are fewer threads that spark my interest... and mine don't pique others. No big deal.

I could help you create a or series of topical galleries gallery with a blog as your entry page. The blog would give you the venue to post new work, direct readers to it's home Gallery, and chat with your visitors. Your gallery pages would keep a clickable thumb array of all related images.

There are several great erotic art webrings that interlink based on primary, auxiliary and passing interests/tastes. I know of one very liberal host service whose annual fees are under 80 bucks and I've never yet exceeded my bandwidth and at one time my daily visitor count exceeded 8,000 a day with more than 10,000 page loads each day for my drawings. exceeding bandwidth costs extra, but I was never able to do that with 7,576,459 unique visits in 4 years.

The cost of hosting a good gallery can be almost nothing. The hardest part is finding a kink friendly hosting service. There a literally tons of site counters that are free as are many many neat visitor friendly widgets.

Student versions of Frontpage (the easiest site builder available)are available at any university bookstore to any student or professor (or relative of one) for less than 30 bucks, and there are several very good freeware site builders available for dowload. Photoshop can also be used to build web galleries that scroll images (I'm not too up on how to make that work yet.)

Blogger/blogspot spaces are free and can be easily added as a page to a website (one hinky thing there, is that blogger is a google property as is Flickr - they recently started requiring a content warning page to blogs with adult content on them, but even though Flickr had that same warning three years ago and I activated it, my Flickr gallery (and so my slide show) just dissappeared one day... both have begun following Yahoo's practice of randomly deleting stuff they get complaints about without warning. So, I wouldn't recommend blogspot or Flickr for now.

Wordpress blogware is also free and often comes with hosting accounts... find a kink friendly host and your wordpress blog is yours to do with as you please. I found my 1st one googling kink porn friendly web host services. Now I have Go Daddy... don't go there ... nickled and dimed to death! I still keep my archives on my old host though. way cheaper to post images whole without a separate photobucket account....

Worth a thought if you really want a venue for your self expression on your own terms.

Best of luck

ps what do you think of my newer posts... a gal needs sage feedback after a loooonnng dry spell. :)

Thanks Patty!
I am not decided on how I will present my erotic work.... except for the book of compiled images and thoughts that I am putting together for myself. Basically a regurgitation of what was posted here.

I already have two web-sites: one is business related and cannot be associated with any of this, the other is design, illustration and art.... BUT because it is presented as the real me...again it really cannot get very risqué. Along with blogs etc.... It all just gets too cumbersome to keep up with.

I Do dig your most recent blow job drawing! The animations are kinda fun too. I've considered trying that. I did some primitive flash (how appropriate!) animations.

That's like saying I include sexually explicit content in erotic writing merely to move the story along. :D
