Tihmmnmmish's Very Laid-Back Summery Poolside Threadcast

Well I don't mean to mislead. I'm not out there as I ought to be. It's not humid and nothing near the heat like they get in TX, but it's a brief interlude between the tail end of winter-like symptoms and the beginning of the fires, which could commence in a couple weeks and there'll be smoke everywhere the rest of the summer. So a wise person would be out and getting the goods while it's possible. A wise person who also had camera gear would spend their last dime on as much film as possible and be out there dawn to dusk. I am a fool to let it go to waste. But we seldom appreciate the blessings, it seems.

New paintings?
Like the one with the lighthouse on the cliff.

No digital camera? So much more convenient now that don't have to worry about film (unless you're doing professional/artistic, where I hear that film still has some advantages)
Fires? Forest fires or set by humans ? We've been so dry that they're banning rockets for the 4th here.

She's in Austin - a bit hotter and not quite as humid as Houston, but not desert by any means either. Her grass may be brown - watering restrictions are stricter there - Houston has lots of water (but some of it comes from underground and leads to subsidence - part of my studies). I'm moving the sprinkler to keep the grass green and have watered the vegetables and other plants outside.

I live in Lexington South Carolina so we are here sweltering. at 6 pm it was still 99F degrees with a heat index of 104F. Usually the sticky heat doesn't arrive until July but it got here early this year.Normally it doesn't bother me, but normally I am outside in the water or cool in the woods or at the river.

EO, you would probably enjoy this area because of the geological oddities we have locally. Peachtree rock is definitely a curious place to visit.

LadyS, I sure hope your back feels better soon.

 and :rose:

to you all

:)

Actually, i m in central PA. I went to college about 20 minutes north of ATL. I've been a Falcons fan ever since. (I assume that's why you thought i was from there.)

I'm just not a fan of summer. Here in PA, it is so humid.

Kids are a real trip. I can't believe my oldest is going to be 17 in August. That's just crazy! Next year at this time, she'll be getting ready to go off to college. That's just mind-boggling. I don't know how i will deal with that, you know, with my depression and stuff. It will be a positive thing to see her going off to make her own life, but I imagine it will be hard for me at times.

That's exactly why I thought that :) Good to see this post and know you are feeling better already.

I think I read a post of yours about one of your kids knowing Japanese. My youngest is minoring in Japanese studies at USC and her major is anthropology.

I'm 46 and when I go out with my 26 year old daughter people think we are sisters and my youngest is 20. I have a hard time believing it myself. They sure do grow up fast. And having them is one thing I know for sure I did right with my life.

They really are a blessing. I hear other people say that they do NOT want girls because they are so hard to raise. I only have daughters so I have nothing to compare the experience to, but they never gave me a bit of trouble, never.

I have a feeling that yours won't abandon you when they go off to school You seem to be a loving caring person and that must surely translate over to your skills as a parent.

I quit my zoloft about 6 months ago and feel so much better. There have been no more breakdowns and freak outs. I don;t ever plan on taking that stuff again mostly because it made my pupils unequal and the doctor said it was nothing. I disagree with him because of what I have read on the net and don't want to stroke out. My depression usually rears it's nasty head when I am out of work. so far it seems "ok." I can go back July 6 for light duty but my boss man said not to bother, there is no light duty in my job. so I am looking at another 2 months in a cast and walking boot and PT after that...sigh..it could be worse and hubby said "Take this down time to write, woman!"

yeah, he's right.

take care

Ermmm I think I just did the last poem for the first round of Poetry challenge sigh guess I have to start over now

But it should be a little easier now as you chase Pushkine:
2009 Survivor Literotica Poetry Challenge
...
  • Participants are to write as many poems as possible, with each poem making use a different trigger on the List of Triggers.
  • For every two of those poems, at least one must also respond to the requirements of a different form on the List of Forms.
  • Until both lists are exhausted, no form or trigger can be used a second time.
  • If a participant exhausts both lists, that participant is allowed to keep writing, under the same rules as until then, but is no longer obliged to use any of the triggers on the List of Triggers. That participant, however, will still have to write one poem using a different form from the List of Forms for every two poems written.
...
Good luck - I enjoy your poetry

I looked up Peachtree rock - that is weird. It'll fall down one of these days, but hopefully not for a long time - nothing here is forever, not even diamonds (they're not in equilibrium with the surface temperatures and pressures, and turn to graphite - but that's even slower than erosion of a fantastic rock outcrop). We're on the coastal plain here so you have to look a bit harder (but fieldwork is a snap - short drive on good roads). I'm planning to write a Survivor poem about my field trips.

It definitely teeters on its edge, EO. I've been hiking there for almost 30 years and it is getting close to tipping. The nature conservancy put a chain and a warning sign to keep people from getting too close, but they still carve graffiti on it. Years ago it was stable enough that I climbed onto the top but have enough sense now to not even try.

There have been a couple of archaeologocal digs in that area; remains of Clovis have been found. When I took an anthro class years back, my prof told me I knew enough to find the dig sites and I did, that was when I found the caves. It is such a rich, wonderful area. Hopefully the neighborhood "kids" will leave it alone, respect the wonders that have held on for so many years.

One day hubby and I were visiting the largest cave and I forgot I was in there and stood up quickly, you can imagine what happened next, lol. Yep, I frammed my skull into the roof of the cave. Hubby said it sounded like a big ol' melon. :D

It's a cool place to visit if you ever come out this way.

And I hope you get back on your feet soon, or the time passes quickly. Don't neglect that PT -it helped me when my knee was messed up.
Good luck with your staying off your medicine. I'm not a doctor (of medicine) so can't advise - just know that some people need it, while others don't. I took antidepressants a long time ago, but can't say one way or the other.
And thanks for your comments on my poem.
Take care :)

I keep checking the ones I posted last week and noone is trolling. I miss my troll :(

Sorry about your back. I had big babies too. 10 lb 1 oz was the biggest, I don't remember how much the third one weighed. Is that awful???

all this talk about iced teas and skinny dipping.. seems like everyone is enjoying the summer. I am just thankful for my air conditioning.

I threw my back out Monday morning. I have a back condition my doctor says is common in women who have had large babies (my smallest was 8 lb. 15oz). So, basically, I have been lying on the floor all week. I was getting really frustrated yesterday cuz I was in the worst pain yet, but it seems like something has kinda snapped back into place and I just have some pain and stiffness.

The other day, I looked at my recent activity on Lit. Saw that some of my poems and stories had been trolled by some anonymous annoyance. How pathetic must your life be that you go through some of a writers work just to troll them? LOL Not sure what they think that does except show their lack of a life. Guess they are expecting me to curl up in a ball under soft whimpers in the dark and stop writing.. lol People are funny.

Anyway, I hope you are all doing well.
Hopefully, I will feel up to painting today since I still have one painting I would like to finish before my art show.

New paintings?
Like the one with the lighthouse on the cliff.

Yes, ty. I felt like a change. The sky in the lighthouse painting is actually darker than it appears in the photo.

Steelers or Eagles as well, or just the Falcons?

Just the Falcons. I am a diehard Falcons fan.

I think I read a post of yours about one of your kids knowing Japanese. My youngest is minoring in Japanese studies at USC and her major is anthropology.

My daughter knows some Japanese. She loves anything Japanese. She studied the language on her own for years (and got mad at me for not keeping up) LOL When she got annoyed at me for not keeping up, I would say "Gomenesai" (however it's spelled), which would just make her more annoyed cuz it was one of the few words I knew. LOL (It means "Sorry.")

I could not take zoloft. I was on it for awhile and it seemed to make some of my symptoms worse. I tried several different meds. Some of them were horrible! I am very happy with my current meds, Depakote & Paxil. The only bad thing is that when I am in pain, Depakote interferes with pain meds. I ran into that problem after my surgeries last year. But other than that, I am very happy with the meds. How helpful they are at keeping me even is well worth the trouble I had trying different meds.

Got a cheap little digital a few years ago. I like it for the fact that you can see right away if you got what you wanted and if it doesn't look right you can delete; carefree spontaneity. I also have a couple film SLRs that are about 35-40 years old, which again to my shame I've let sit untouched for far too long. There's something to be said for having to take the time to compose and look without shooting away, just looking, and if something comes up that you get one shot at, you either get it or you don't, and there's an added anticipation factor of not knowing right away.

Fires? Forest fires or set by humans ? We've been so dry that they're banning rockets for the 4th here.

Forest. Careless campers and smokers, lightning...

hmmnmmish, you gonna do a Nude Day story for Survivor points?
;)

Austin here: was 103 yesterday 65% humidity. Is that high? I can't tell.

It was 105 the other day. I am not sure what to do about the baby's car seat. I put a cover over it but it is still so hot! I need to talk to the natives see if they have tricks. It is not like in the north in winter where you can start up your car and warm it up, the ac is no good just parked in an oven.

Not complaining really, just reporting.

yes, the back half of our yard is brown, all of the plants back there are on their own and are the kind that just come back to life after it cools the hell down.

We do water the grass around our house. I am a bit scared of fires. Along the highway you see big patches of blackened grass where glass bottles magnify the sun enough to start a fire. It is also the kind of grass (I learned last year) that does NOT come back to life after it cools down and rains. Dead is just dead.

I am learning.

Thanks for asking NJ! It sounds icky where you are too!

At work I park in a garage, so its not quite as hot in the evening.
Sometime long ago I heard that 30-60 is the comfort range for humidity, so
103 & 65 is high.
Today I made a quick trip for the paper, milk etc. With the hot car and outside, my shirt was soaked - don't mind that when I'm doing something outside,
but had just taken my shower - why ?
Bottles - not careless cigarettes ?

Sounds like somebody better get to pumpin a little iron.

Man, ain't no words these days.

My wife would be happy enough with just my chest and the stuff below where the belt had been.

But I wouldn't want to be outside in that summer sun all day, especially nude.

Summer doldrums.

And you've got winter starting now - long time away for us.

*smile* we've been lucky with winter so far... many beautiful blue sky, cool days here in Auckland. a fair amount of rain too, with flooding in various parts of the country. longest night long past. downhill slope to spring now. ;)

antidisestablishmentariansim or something. ;)

sounds like y'all need to fill yer cups again.:rose:

Where the helllllllllllll have you beeeeeeeen welcome home we have missed you so much! Questions have been asked in parliament as to where you were!
