Trump Fucks up the Economy

I believe repatriating a good part of what has been offshored is a good idea and selective tariffs and protectionism are a good way to do that but what
Simple question, "are you willing to pay more for the identical item you can buy cheaper elsewhere"?

Because if you're not (I don't see many Americans who would) then what you're proposing, won't work.

Simple question, "are you willing to pay more for the identical item you can buy cheaper elsewhere"?

Because if you're not (I don't see many Americans who would) then what you're proposing, won't work. It depends what you want to achieve? Take pharmaceuticals as an example. COVID showed why we really need to repatriate that particular industry. Strategic industries like steel, and theres no doubt others.

There are some we should repatriate. COVID was a good demo of why pharmceuticals should be onshored. Strategic industries like steel and I'm sure there's cases to be made for others. But that's the point - that's what planning and a selective approach is about and it doesn;t happen overnight. It nees to be transitioned.

Trump just fucked all that up completely. And the end result will be, by the time he's done, that everyone will be so burnt by this it will never happen and he'll have destroyed a big chunk of our economy without achieving anything except destruction. Brilliant move.

Amazon is going to start displaying the tariff amount as a seperate amount in it's pricing. Companies who inform customers of the numbers are un-American traitors.

The mid-terms are going to be a wipe-out.

And by July the economy will be busy imploding......

You know, we are all obzserving history here - the end of the American Century, the rise of China as THE world superpower, the Fall of Russia, Trump as a tragically flawed hero, a MacBeth or a Richard III.

"A tariff, a tariff, my Republic for a tariff....." I'm sure there's a better line but I can't think of it right now.

Haha. The Clown Show Administration is SO defensive!

Reporting the factual impact of tariffs on prices is "a hostile and political act." 😆

I wonder if Propaganda Secretary Leavitt is embarrassed by spouting such bullshit, or is she a completely gullible MAGA sheep?

You know what is a hostile and political act? Trump’s tariffs.

Just a few thoughts about the economy, tariffs and re-shoring.

The labor supply. We are short of workers in so many areas and in critical areas from construction to manufacturing to agrarian workers. Investors are going to balk knowing they can't find qualified workers, let alone a body to babysit in a factory, to build their assemblies, parts etc. The immigration problem needs to be solved logically so the work gets done. Right now, we don't measure up.

Technology. We are behind others, notably South Korea and China in using technology and robotics in our processes to build better, faster and cheaper products. Oh, and the technology wouls also replace some labor in the marketplace.

The cost of building has increased since the last manufacturing boom 80 some years ago. Plus the labor to do the construction is depleted, think trades in plumbing, electrical, etc... Most of the US existing factories are old and outdated.

Infrastructure to upgrade the grid is going to cost a small fortune. Who is going to pay for that? The American consumer.

There's a hige amount of work that needs to be done but Trump just isn't thinking it through. It's just seat of the pants.....

this is just a summary. so much more can be expanded upon from trade relations, the loss of partnerships, lost opportunity with African and south pacific nations. The loss of revenue when American firms and companies are removed from foreign countries and replaced by others. Last year, US firms made over $300bn in revenue in China. About equal to the trade difference between the US and China.

There is nothing logical or practical to the tariff plan other than campaign rhetoric. The price to be paid with this nonsense is going to hurt all Americans below the 1%.
Well, he's certainly proven he has as little understanding of economics as he does of international relations.

He's going to take the GOP from what should have been 16 years of sound conservative governance and reform to 2 years of chaos and collapse, disaster in the mid-terms, a lame duck last 2 years and a Democrat landslide in 2028. Talk about a stable genius. Not even Biden could equal what we are about to participate in.....

I'll point out with a strong public health program, and procurement system, in house manufacturing isn't a necessity. While we did have shortages here in Canada due to covid, that was due to buying the drugs from the US. Which has...ummm the largest pharmaceutical industry in the world....a mistake we'll not make again....
Strategic industries like steel and I'm sure there's cases to be made for others.
You do manufacture steel, the problem is in ore supply. Let look at Aluminium, the US does make aluminium products, but imports both raw ore and blanks from Canada ( Quebec). Since Quebec's electrical cost is half the US, and production of ore is closer to the mines, making it cheaper, then throw in the dollar parity advantage, it makes zero sense economically to make the blanks in the US.
But that's the point - that's what planning and a selective approach is about and it doesn;t happen overnight. It nees to be transitioned.
True, if you're gong to try and reshore, it will take lots of planning, and Trump's not a planer....lol

“Rosebud”…

🤬

We. Told. Them. So.

Tariffs... history repeating itself... five years ago and 90 years ago... the american people, more than any others, will suffer the most. there is no legitimate reason to implement tariffs. None. Other speaking points.
If you mean Trump's tariffs yes,if all tariffs no,there are sometimes occasions to impose them.
Trump's scatter gun approach is insane and he should never go to a zoo because penguins from Heard Island may try to assassinate him.

He's totally delusional - worse than Biden was....why on earth would you lie about something that is so easily provable

Trump being mobbed to death by penguins seems somehow fitting.

He's really not. What he's doing is a reset on the shit economy the left has been pushing since Obama where its everyone matters but this country.

There's going to be rough patches, but there is an end result which is a better economy than what we have now.

But of course the hate and fear mongers and uneducated need to squeal and gnash their teeth as they're dragged into a better time whether they like it or not.

I used to wonder if the leftists were actually stupid, or so stubborn they wouldn't support Trump if he cured cancer and actually say cancer has rights and should exist, or just willfully ignorant.

Three things can be true.
As if given the opportunity trump would end cancer, that would be an unselfish act and there’s no evidence that any such thing has ever happened.

Step 1: slap on tariffs.

Step 2: wait for stocks to tank.

Step 3: buy cheap.

Step 4: ditch the tariffs.

Step 5: watch the market rise.

Step 6: sell high.

Step 7: rinse and repeat — while the country goes up in flames.
It would be very interesting to see exactly who has made a great deal of money from this ongoing shambles.
