TV Guide's 50 greatest cartoon characters

70/30 said:

I like watching Dexter's Lab. GI Joe, Transformers, and He-Man did have quite a few characters and huge background plots that made them interesting. Inspector Gadget was pretty good entertainment for a kid-that darned Penny was so sharp.

Oh please. Brain did all the real work.

The biggest oversight in my opinion is Shaggy.

Shaggy is way cool,

But what about Marvin the Martian?

Where's the Kaboom? There was supposed to be an earth shattering Kaboom.

i could argue with a lot of those posts but i'll just pick one: the freakin' power puff girls...

My response is just the opposite. I love the Powerpuff Girls, especially Buttercup. I was afraid that they might get overlooked but #13 has me smiling ear to ear. Hell, my car's name is Blossom, I even have a PPG hanging from my rear view mirror:)

Gerald McBoing Boing was the best! When he tried to talk all would come out was "boing boing" Puuure genius.

the kid with the overactive imagination was ralph phillips. gerald mcboing boing was the kid that spoke in sound effects (I believe)

adult swim on cartoon network is awesome. yu yu hakusho is great. I never understood pilot candidate, though.

the scooby-doo movie was a lot better than I expected, but then my expectations were very low to begin with.

As usual TV Guide has proven that they are far from being experts. The list has to be one of their worst attempts to date. Get real now, I would take any WB carton over the Simpsons or the Power Puff Girls and definately Pikachu.

TV Guide "Experts?" Still haven't figured that one out.

Who is #32. Tom Terrific? Is #34. Bill, Bill the cat or what?

I liked Tom Slick more that George of the Jungle personally.

I would have liked to see Foghorn Leghorn and that poor dog he tortured on the list. Those two made one of the funniest duos I can remember.

just another example on how most folks cannot look past today...powder puff girls, angelica, sponge bob square pants??? puh-lease! lets see them pass the test of time like Tom and Jerry, Speedy, and Ren and Stimpy

Wizard magazine did a " Top Cartoon List " I think. If I can find it I'll post their list. It was much more satisfactory. I am wondering if the sponsers paid something for some of these cartoons to be listed ?

no one mentioned my favorite

ok it still has Power Puff Girls(grrrrrrr), but anything that includes Dr. Katz is great in my book

Good list but wayyyy too many newer cartoons ranked too high. Batman Beyond??? Come on I like the show but it does not belong at #6 nor does The Powerpuff Girls belong at #10.

Kudos for putting The Tick on the list and at quite a high ranking. SPOON!!!

Dungeons and Dragons was always one of my favorites. I used to whine and complain about how they never re-ran any of those old episodes. Then, last year Fox showed the entire series just once and I didn't even know until the last two episodes!

I was afraid Scooby-Doo might be even higher, given all the recent hype. I never quite got the appeal of that show.

Is this supposed to be the 50 greatest cartoon characters in terms of their TV presence only; or 50 greatest, period? Because if it's the latter, Mickey Mouse is too damn low. And Goofy has to be on the list somewhere--the dude was versatile.

The old filmation ones are a blast, he-man, she-ra, flash gordon. I wonder when CN is going to get the rights to them

And just where was Dudley Do Right ???

What about Little Lulu?? and Crusader Rabbit??

And come on.... The Road Runner and Wiley E. Coyote... they belong in the Top 3...

I can't give a grain of salt that puts the Simpons at number one. I watched one episode of the Simpsons and didn't make it through that.

Why is Voltron on twice? True it kicks ass but still...

It's so hard to create a ranking that would please everyone for this type of genre. I would prefer to see much more anime on that list, for example Rurouni Kenshin(or Samurai X as it's know in the west), Nadesico, Giant Robo and Doraemon. Plus any film by Hayao Miyazaki rocks and beats the pants off most of the crap that Disney have made(with a few execptions of course).

Try watching four or five episodes. I've never met a person, young or old that doesn't like the Simpsons. You really are missing out!
