Thanks CarlyAnn. It’s a story I wasn’t aware of until a few days ago when I first heard the song. 50 year anniversary this week of the tragedy.

I talked to a friend of my Grandfather recently who told me this. He actually interviewed Lightfoot for a story.

“I remember when the ship went down. Lightfoot later regretted doing the song because he was inundated with inquiries about the sinking. People just assumed he was an authority on the tragedy. Of course this was before the ship was found.”
