I read somewhere and of course, that makes it true (insert rolling eyes here, please) that most internet relationships last about 4 months. The author did not differentiate between friendships and romance, but lumped them together and averaged it.

For the most part and in my limited experience online, I have found that to be true where romance is concerned. But regarding my friendships... those have been very long lasting. And I value them a great deal.
