Built a cat tree for Her Majesty last night. She spent about an hour on it today batting frantically at the dangly mouse.
Also, she's taken to hiding behind things and leaping out to savage my ankles (very gently) as I walk past. I have to pretend I don't see her.

She sounds awfully sweet.
I'm biased, but yeah. It's very sweet when she climbs onto my chest and settles in for an hour of TLC.
TLC=tiny little claws.
that also. She likes to claw-knead while being petted. Doesn't quite break the skin but it's certainly prickly.

Husband super full of anxiety, chattering teeth, talking weird and fast, his brain seemed off in a different place. When I asked what he needed, he said "will you hold my hand?" When I did, he smiled and fell asleep.

Having been in physical pain to I'd hazard a similar degree I very much understand how having your hand as an anchor away from the hell of pain he was in means more than words can tell. It can be a lifeline, one none-badpainfulhurts thing to focus on, that single hand. He is lucky to have you understand.
Need to read this thread more.

I think his pain was more mental than physical. Maybe a combination of both? He doesn't have alzheimers but I'm sensing he's experiencing some kind of "sundowner" anxiety. It seems to happen as it gets dark. He is immobile; he describes the dark as feeling as if he's in a coffin.
Pain is pain, though. Knowing he felt secure in that moment was good.
