Erland Cooper - Carve the Runes Then Be Content With Silence
my copy arrived today... interesting history of the record. Erland recorded it and then made one tape copy. All other masters were destroyed. That tape was then driven to Orkney (where he is from) and buried. He left clues in case anyone wanted to search, but the idea was that after three years it would be dug up and played.
It was found. The tape was then copied, as it was, for the final record.
The premiere of the piece was in June, where the show opened with the tape being played, before an ensemble played the music, reproducing the flaws in the recording and adding silence where the tape had been damaged.
My copy of the album was a limited edition, numbered and signed and complete with a slice of the original tape.
